I recently registered for a free .tech domain and now have been receiving calls from numbers associated to website scammers.

I'm assuming they're using public domain registration info to have a list of people to call.

    Block and report.

Just registered a domain name with Godaddy a couple of days ago and I got a call from this number trying to sell me website design services.  I've also been getting a bunch of texts about marketing my website.  I guess Godaddy sells your personal info...Geez.

2 calls so far today.  Unfortunately when you buy a domain and don't pay the $8 to make it "private" everybody gets your contact info and calls to pitch their stuff.  I bought a domain 2 days ago and have had 2 dozen emails and at least 10 robodial calls.  I'm not paying $8 to make it private so only have the choice to block the number and delete the emails

It's nothing to do with Godaddy itself. If you bought a domain name and didn't get additional privacy protection, then anybody can get your phone number from the Whois lookups.

Caller was heavily accented, with sounds of a boiler room operation in the background, calling to speak about a recently registered domain.  When it was explained our company does web development and runs some pretty impressive sites, he simply said "well" and hung up.  Rude, disruptive and useless call.

There are several different phone numbers they call from. It's telemarketers who are trying to sell you website services like SEO crap, WordPress install, Google Ad Words, etc. They got your number from your domain name provider. I got a domain a week ago. Now I'm getting an average of 9 phone calls per day and approximately 25 spam emails from these telemarketing companies. I will never buy a domain from Host Gator again! Stick to go Daddy!

This is false information. I have privacy protection and I have this same problem. They call me around 9 times a day and 25 spam emails daily. I have privacy protection.

    True
Yes, it is true, after I bought domains in Go Daddy I've been receiving calls offering to build my website with the same pattern of Indian or Blangadesh accent..... Now I just block the caller but we should make  someone accountable ....The first time I say I didn't need them and they hang up on me.... Then, it cost me money because I don't have a long distance calls free....

The key is to purchase domains with a fake phone number and your "junk-only" email address as your contact info, or pay the $8 per year for domain privacy.  I own dozens of domains and made the mistake of not paying for privacy on one, and now am facing the same issues as you.  I will never do it again.

If you purchased a domain through GoDaddy.com, they publish all of your contact details: Name, address, email address and telephone number. This is why you are all getting calls, texts, and email spam. You can thank GoDaddy for their publicly sharing your private details.

This number and a hundred others have called or sent me text messages. I've also received hundreds of emails in the last couple of weeks. I bought a domain as a gift for a friend who just started his own business. At the time, I didn't know that GoDaddy would list all of my private contact details for the world to see. I have had to change my number, and my email address. I will never buy anything from GoDaddy.com- ever again!

I have VoIP and have had almost no spam calls in almost 2 years. As soon as I signed up for website hosting with GoDaddy, I started getting at least one spam call, sometimes 2 or 3, a day. This is one number that calls.

So I have little doubt GoDaddy immediately sold my information. The was hardly a 1 day delay before the calls started.

This is standard. You pay extra to have your detail hidden anywhere you buy a domain name. It's not a Godaddy thing or a Hostgator thing. If you want them private, pay for the privacy. Also, per the comment below, do not provide fake contact information:

"ICANN (not the domain registrar) requires that all information in your registration be valid.
If any dispute arises (see the ICANN Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy rules here) you will be contacted via the means specified in your domain registration. Notice that section 14 of the rules is a section that defines what happens as part of a 'default' (in other words, they can't contact you): They'll proceed with a judgement, and you won't get a say in the proceedings.
ICANN has the power to take a domain from you and give it to somebody else."

Also, most phones can block a number. On the iPhone, just click the phone number and scroll down and hit "block number". No more issues.

I received two calls from this number. I do not answer calls from numbers I do not recognize and they did not leave a voice-mail message, which means this is not important. I searched their number and found all the helpful information on this site, so thanks for the updates. I have now blocked my number.
