This guy just called here - Ottawa Canada. He said he "..knew we were having troubles with our PC.." and asked us to ".. turn it on.." for him..

Something really wrong with this. Our internet is from PRIMUS Canada. Glad I looked this up!
Don't tell him nothing. He probably wants your IP address.

Same as most of the other posters. Some guy called my mother. Thick accent. Next to impossible to understand, telling her that her computer was about to be attacked by a virus.

He said he worked for "Windows", and was asked to call by some company on behalf of Microsoft. Obviously a scam, and luckily my mother hung up on him.

He called a second time screaming that her computer was about to blow up (!). Idiot.

I found this site after running the phone number through Google.

Just hang up on these clowns, and don't even engage them in conversation.

Got a call from someone from 3D secure saying that I had been involved in a scam, that they were from Australia(!) They were willing to transfer $200 to my account if I would be in front of my computer so that they could verify my IP address.

A few months ago I got a call from someone saying that they were from Windows that my computer was suffering from over 3000 registry errors. I panicked and signed up for the computer clean-up (must have been very vulnerable that day) Log2rescueme. I paid $55.00 for this and thankfully that's all it cost me as I had done the transaction through Paypal. and was able to stop any further payments.
BE VERY CAREFUL. Take it from someone who has been scammed. Not one of my brighter moments.

I just got this call again from the same number but this time he said he was from 'Windows'...the first time he said he was from "Microsoft'...lol He told me he was calling because of the error messages that were on my computer...and I asked him from which computer, (as I have teenagers and we have 4 laptops and 1 desktop) and of course he couldnt tell me but kept calling me ma'am and repeating the same thing. I told him I knew its a scam and I would never give him access to my computer. Then he repeats that I need to turn on my computer....funny thing is I was working on my computer and it was already on...hmmmmm maybe he should have known that seeing as my computer is sending error messages all the time?

PS.... is this really the place to be acting immature and calling names? Not all Americans are rude and loud, and not all Canadians are rednecks living in Igloos....grow up people

One of the most obvious attempted scams I've ever heard - I almost (but not quite) felt sorry for them.  Some nonsense about a computer virus that was going to corrupt *icons*!

Thank you for your efforts - that was 10 minutes they weren't talking with the one in a million that might actually fall for the scam.  You've made the world a better place.

I just got a call from this number.  (Allegedly a Microsoft Support Center)  They told me that they were getting problem reports from a computer in my home.  I cooperated.  They guided me to the Application Event Viewer (through Start -> My Computer -> Manage) to show me that it was filled with Errors and Warnings, thus proving that my computer had issues that needed resolution.  Then they asked me to go to Start -> Run ... and type in the a command: "www.[website].com" ... in short, go to a website that would allow me to install some remote control software for my computer.  I thanked them politely for the good laugh, and hung up.  I imagine the next step would be to install it, start the service, and let them take control of the computer to install malware (ahem) I mean to fix the issues.

Got a call about errors and since I had sent error reports 2 or 3 days ago to Microsoft I thought it might be on the up and up....however I had a gut feeling and shut off my computer in the middle of then doing something online. I don't know if they can do anything now or if I disconnected in time.

I received a call from 510-943-3040 today, i didn't answer the phone call because it was an unrecognizable number.  I also received a call last week from 661-240-9162.  They called me 4 times all within 4 minutes.  Finally left a message saying if I did not call them back to deal with "this problem" that local police would be at my door and charges would be pressed for fraud against my social security number.  He had a very strong accent like one from India or somewhere like that.  Very hard to understand.  When I plugged the number into google, it came up that many others are getting similar calls.  Do not answer them.  It is a scam to try and get all your info to launder money from you.  SCARY
