- Harold| 2 repliesMy number is on the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) national Do Not Call registry.
I received a call from this number - 515-789-7889 - today. My Caller ID displayed the letters "Out of Area" and the telephone number. It is likely a fake telephone number but that does not matter.
EVERY TIME I receive an unwanted call such as this one I report it to the FTC using its online complaint format. It doesn't matter if it is a fake number or not. I provide the date, time of the call, what Caller ID displayed and the message if there was one. I have decided to let the FTC know that people are tired of unwanted calls.
These companies/individuals know that most people will not bother to complain to the FTC - that is what they are relying on. Thus, they stay under the FTC's radar. Complaining at this website, other than identifying the caller and letting others know they are not unique, does little to stop the calls.
If more people would complain to the FTC and not just complain on this forum, the FTC WILL take action against these annoying callers. The FTC does not act on one complaint alone. It takes many complaints before they will take action - but they DO take action if enough citizens complain.
You, too, can submit a report at:
https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?
Click on "File A Complaint" on the left side of the web page - or click on "Continue." It only takes a minute of your time.

- Old GringoThese sons of bushes call me too.. I block, they call with a different caller ID... wouldn't it be great if our scum ass useless federal Govt did their job and shut them down? Not likely, it's free enterprise.. and our "civil religion" says you cannot condemn it to do so is blasphemy.

- MCDJust got called - I don't even bother to pick up the phone if I don't know the number calling me. The No-call list works fine for those people that aren't breaking the law to begin with - but there's no way to catch the ones that use phony numbers and IDs. *fumes*

- ld replies to Mariado you have the ability to block caller numbers on your phone? if so---try that. works like a charm for me.
- Tim replies to Harold| 1 replySecond that! I report each and every call. It's the only way to even slow them down. Just got one from this number.
- JerryJust got a call from this number stating it was my second and final chance to lower my credit card rate. No credit cards here Came up on my caller ID as "unknown name". I listened for a moment to see if I could ask to be removed from their "list" but wasn't prompted for that option. Smells like a rat to me, so I filed a complaint on donotcall.gov for whatever that is worth.

- CindyCall was said to be from Card Services Final Notice press 1 to continue. This is a scam They say they are to help you get your high rate credit cards lowered give card balance, current interest rate and number, but donot give the security code on the back. That is for my protection and that lets me know they are in know way wanting to steal my card to charge own. YEA!!! RIGHT!!! I had a total Brain Fart! and give my # to all my cards. Knew this was wrong but just wanted a cheaper rate than 23% and wanted this to be true. 1st ladies name I'm sure was a fraud was Janet Meadows and the 2nd lady I'm sure was a Fraud name to was Ashley Daniels her supervisior. Well at 1st I didn't qualify and then she came back wanting to know if their was another card a Visa or Mastercard, but then she said that was OK they called back and said it went through. I got the lower rate!!! YEA!!! I would recieve my new rate in 4 to 6 day in the mail.Congratulation and I ask for call back #. So after I hung up I called the number's and as sure as I suspected it was a scam numbers were no good HA! HA! HA! How Goofy was I !!. One of the numbers was actually to VISA card services. - Ernie BellAlso received a call at 3:20 PM on 6/13/2011. Only option is to press #1 so you can ask them again not to call you and they promptly hangup on you. Take a moment and file with the FCC on these people so they can fined repeatedly for doing this. Recorded message is "This is your final call (Yeah where have we heard that before!) to lower your interest rate.
