The scammers can't touch this! replies to than you guys
I got a call from a person calling himself Mark Aron. I had emailed him for an apartment in Manhattan and was going to have a friend living in New York go meet with him to see the apartment but he was very nervouse and only called because I insisted. He had a very strong accent like Indonesian or that region anyhow. He didn't stay on the phone long but I think this time he got scammed because it had to cost something to call from overseas as it sounded that way and I was inquiring about an apartment in Midtown but he said he was calling to secure the apartment in Soho. So he has more than one name and ad. I would like to know if the name Tom Bruce is familiar to anyone. I think I am just going to put up a tent in Central Park. lol

thank you so much for this note! Jane Synovec wanted me to send her my deposit through moneygram and i was a bit skeptical at first because I continuously kept asking her for her number just to further discuss this process, and she just ignored my question and just kept asking me to send my deposit to secure the apt. in manhattan. This was such a scam and im glad that I am aware and conscious that this kind of stuff happens. Subsequently just to test and mess with her mind a bit, I asked her if i can check the apt. first then pay the deposit upfront when i see her. She then said she cant show me her apt. because she will not be around. I then asked her if shes not going to be around then how will we get the key to enter into the apt; she responded and stated that she will fix a time to meet up for the key exchange. Now this didnt make any sense because she at first said that she as not going to be around to show me the apt because she wont be around but she will be around to give me the key. She caught herself in a lie by saying that she wont be around. She was very adamant about recieving the money through moneygram. These people are horrible and need prayer.

2 years later and "Jane Synovec" is still on the loose! I just got duped by her last week in renting a NYC condo on Craig's list.  I am so mad at myself for not googling her first. I wired her $320 to hold the place for a trip I'm planning in December.  I do have the Indiana police working on trying to find her/it.  Though mostly likely, I'm SOL.

Yes, Also Add the names Mathew Betancourt and Andrew Coyle to your list in New Orleans.  They are posting on Craigslist for Vacation rentals with the identical paragraph!!  Again, the rental agreement looked strange and when I went to google and zillow.com these are not even actual residential addresses!!!  Beware!!

I wish I had seen your post earlier. I got scammed by Andrew Coyle. But what really gave him away and I am so thankful is that after I WUnioned the deposit he said that the owner of the rental now decided he needed full payment. I told him I thought it might be a scam and that confirmed it. I said cancel and return money or I would contact authorities. He said go ahead "we have papers and a lawyer". I said I had those same papers and they clearly say 1/2 down.  He replied some jibberish and when I sent another email asking about my refund he replied  saying they would refund my money but that they had to have my cell phone number so they could text me a cancellation code. Wow he is actually trying to pull another type of fraud. What a scumbag. If you want to stay in New Orleans. Call a hotel or use their website. I hope Craigslist stops these people. They should be working on ways to stop them instead!  I too had googled his Name and the name of the person picking up money.  His name is Douglas Kranz of Parlin NJ which is probably Andrew Coyle.

Oh my goodness- thank you for posting this warning about Janina Richardson!

I wrote to her at  janina_richardson01@yahoo.com because of a craigslist ad for an apartment rental.

She wouldn't give me her phone number and she lied about the building she claimed to be representing (251 W 71 St ,  New York , 10023) the ad said it has a doorman, but streeteasy.com- which is 100% reliable on these matters- confirms that it does not.

Also, for those who see her name, beware of someone using the name Rose Brooks and the email rose_pup01@yahoo.com , because it is the exact same scam, same so-called available apartment  at 251 W 71 St ,  New York , 10023.

The frustrating thing is that I wasted two days trying to pin "Janina" down on details for an apartment that probably doesn't exist, and now the holiday weekend is that much closer with no reservation in sight...
