Wow, good thing I searched the phone number and found this site.  $65/ night in Midtown NY sounded tasty, but I was skeptical.  Now I KNOW.

Check out the email from Jane Synovec ( jane.synovec724@yahoo.com )

The property is much available for the dates you have chosen (3nights),the price is $65/night;$195 for your total stay,to hold your dates of your rent  is required ($97.5) + security deposit of $200= $297.5,so all you need pay to secure your date is $297.5.The security deposit($200) is fully refundable on your departure assuming no damage  is done to the property rented to you....

I am so glad you checked the number!
I actually contacted craigslist.org yesterday and am filing a complaint with the attorney general (they are responsible for consumer frauds like that).
Again, so happy you didn't fall into their net of lies!

    Smiles!

Same here. I've been dealing with a "Neusa Hawhorne" -- a fake name that they left the "t" out and should be Hawthorne. Anyway, I get these broken English letters, vague responses to my specific inquiries about a vacation rental on Bleecker Street in NYC. I e-mailed a year ago but we cancelled our trip, so when I inquired again a month ago I got the exact same "personal" letter -- the exact wording, same spelling mistakes. scam Scam SCAM.

BEWARE of Sherri Gordon alias Justin Waterside on craigslist!!! Allthough being sceptical from the start we've sent $450 deposit "to her son" one week ago and haven't heard from her since. Now I've found this website (too late, unfortunately) and what did fake apartement owner "Nicholars Smith" wrote:

"Also i have quest that have stayed in my apartment recently and they enjoy my hospitality:
SHERRI, 4355 Central Ave, Ceres Ca 95307, sherri.gordon96@gmail.com"

So don't make the same mistake we did!!! I will never ever use a website like craigslist anymore! How overtrustful can one be?!? STUPID!!!

Thank goodness I saw your post on Sherri Gordon.  I was just about to confirm reservations.

Also,  you might want to beware there are 2 other people who are questionable  - the give the same description of property but located in different areas of Manhattan then for payment, they both say to send to their younger brother in New Mexico.

What a scam.  How do you know which ones are for real?

And also BEWARE of ASHLEY LANGFORD alias JUSTIN WATERSIDE.
He or she is definitely a SCAM!!!

Before going to NCY we sent him $320 ($200 deposit plus half of the money which was $60 per night)
The first 3 days we stayed at a hostel and so we went to the street (158, Christopher St, NY, NY 10014) to check if the appartment really exists. We found the right house but there were no buzzes outside. Besides we had been sceptical about his e-mail address justinwaterside@yahoo.com because this could not be his last name. Arriving at Christopher St. it was claer that the appartment is close to the Manhattan Waterside...

Then we wrote him an e-mail just to make sure that we will meet him at the time we agreed on. He didnt answer anymore. We also tried to call him on the number he gave us beforehand but it didn´t work (his number was: 518-712-3018).

However we went to his appartment at the right time but he didn´t show up! All this happened to us last week.
    [***] you Justin Waterside!!!!

I'm glad I found this site.  I just saved myself $330.  Do NOT rent an apartment or make arrangements to rent on from JANE SYNOVEC.  I was prepared to rent an apt from her for 4 days later this month and the bad English/grammar used in her responses got me to thinking everything wasn't so rosy on the other end of things.  So I searched and found this webpage.  I got a contract to sign and on it was the number (216) 539-7410...which is a number to Cleveland, OH.  She also wanted me to Western Union money to her husband in New Mexico...her husband named MARK COY.  Yeah, so different last names, telephone numbers in a different area, Western Union money orders...I smelled a scam.  Folks, if it's too good to be true...

Anyway, I caught this in the nick of time and hopefully saved someone else out there some heartache/$$ in the process.

               Dear Sherry,
Thanks for your reply. Due to certain arrangements I made in the meantime, I've updated the dates of my stay in the apartment. I would need it July 22 - July 29, and Aug 5 - 12, for a total of 14 days, as you were mentioning. Is the apartment still available then?
If so, please send me the form to fill. Also, how am I to make the $450 initial payment? Is Paypal ok? Also, how will you return the security deposit on my departure date? Cash?
One final question: are linen available in the apartment?
               Thanks,
               M

I've just sent a note to craigslist, giving them the link to this website and all of the betrayer's names mentioned so far. Hopefully they are going to stop this person! But still there will be others like this - so don't be too overtrustful! I'm still angry with myself being so naive!
