What's the Colorado number for? It's not a very good user alias. Worse if it's a phone number you control, unless you like attracting trashy calls.

Maybe you can help, I got the number I have now maybe 6-8 years ago and i began getting calls for a Elario Hernandez who was in legal trouble. For a year or so I would answer all these strange calls saying that I just got this number and I didn't have a clue who he is (generally no one believed me and just harassed me) . I've stopped answering these calls as of a couple years ago - I know I don't owe anyone money and they are calling for this Elario guy. As of now I must get 5-6 calls every day Mon-Fri ( I just leave my phone on silent now). Adding my number to the do not call list did nothing. This number has started calling me now but I haven't answered (I'm generally busy at work anyway... ). How can I get off these lists as I would rather not go through the hassle of changing my number

I did not answer this call to my cell phone and do not know anyone in Virginia.  After reading the comments I am putting the number on my reject list.

For an "IT_GUY" I would have thought that you would know better than to reply to a post from 2008 (10 years ago) and expect that person to see your reply.  Wouldn't it be better to take that energy and put it where it will do some good?  Like reading the other posts and finding out that there is at least one here that gives you the information you need to know and to do?

This is a collection agency that has bought the debt from someone else that you owed. The company that you originally had the debt with sold it to them an wrote it off in their taxes. You DO NOT OWE THEM ANYTHING. Do not pay them anything. Do not give them any of your information.

Got news for you....its a legitimate collections company. I got a call with no message. I called back. They are a collections agency calling on a debt. They are asking to speak to a person who had my phone number. They can not give any information on what debt they are calling about unless they are speaking to that specific person. They can not leave a message unless that specific person name is on the message.  By law they cannot tell you anything unless you are the named person. Not a scam call. Just was  a pleasant  call. If you get nasty with them they get nasty back. It's a collection call they are just trying to collect a debt that's owed.

And per the FDCPA, they need to send you something in writing outlining the debt upon which time you then have 30 days to respond to their claim. They are not, however, legally supposed to call you without sending the correspondence first.

Sorry, but that is not what the FDCPA says.  It says
