wow veronica, you probably shouldn't be giving so much info to the public like that. you don't really need to validate yourself and how you do your job. it's really no one's business anyways but the people that owe the money.

I had a student loan with CT. It went default when I moved and switched bank accounts (I was young and unorganized. oops). I moved back home from Europe, found out what happened and paid the the state agency off in full for the amount owed plus a hefty penalty and an excessive amount of interest.

I have the documentation to demonstrate all of this. DCS continues to call and harass me over this debt even after I fedexed them copies of the documentation. They have even called my employer. I think I may just start firing off small claim suits each time they call me.

Reading some of these posts tells me quite a bit about the collectors.  I have had a lot of financial problems in the past and taken some really crappy jobs but I am so glad I never sank to that level.  Apparently there is a handbook that tells these people it is ok to lie, misrepresent themselves and insult people who answer their calls. If they are immature enough to believe it is al-right to do so then they deserve whatever abuse they receive on these boards.

Hello just making a comment on the neighbors being called by a collection agency including this DCS....company....all the neighbor has to do is put the number in the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY and if they call back again, especially since the neighbor has no clue as to what is going on, if the company calls again, she calls DNC registry informs them they called again, then WHAM, they are closed up for business under the Fair Debt Collection Act of 1974 until the investigation is complete.  If indeed violations are found they will not re-open.......simple as that.....

OK, first let me say that if you actually work at DCS, remember that your ass is online with everyone else, if your company goes down for any reason....trust me I turned over a collection agency like DCS, to the Attorney General's office and when that agency was stupid enough to keep calling my home even AFTER I said stop calling, all she had to do is listen to the remarks made by the agency person, and OOPPPSSS wrong thing to do, she took the appropriate actions and EVERYONE working in the agency was prosecuted under the Fair Debt. Collection Act violation....so, soft soaping people in here that oh, your just here to get the money......is ludicrious.....and HELLO to everyone....you know what I usually do to a company calling me, and that goes for telemarketers too......if they are not allowed to call me and do.....I simply blow a whistle into the phone the minute they call.....haven't had anyone call back after that.....of course I don't have collection agency's calling me because I owe money I do pay my bills, I have when they do just what the other said, call me to get information on my neighbor.........

They had been calling my husband and I for a few days and wouldn't tell me on the phone what it was about unless my husband said they could talk to me about it. Turns out, it is a debt collector for the IRS, apparently we owed our state (VA) back taxes from years ago in the amount of 122.24. We payed it today, so hopefully they stop calling us.

They called me at my work place.  They are federally connected...which means they think they're above the law.  But when I called them and told them that according to the Rosenthal Act, they can not call my job, they let up.  Needless to say, they are now garnishing my wages, but I don't have to deal with them calling my cell or work #.

promised me a $200.00 "bonus" payment if I would "consolidate" my student loans with them. I told them to send me the information in writing.
    The never did.
Instead, they went ahead and "authorized" the consolidation, NEVER sent me 1 DIME, and now are harrassing me to pay them off at a rate that is HIGHER tham I was paying in the first place.
Repeated calls have wasted hours of my life, not to mention the stress. I can not afford to sue them. Have reported tem to the atorney general, better business burrou, anf the FTC, but to no avail. they still call me and my friends to this day demanding repayment of loans. Because of the econamy and my situation, I am in default. Thanks to recent changes in the law, I can not get any releif from bankruptcy. I am only JUST surviving as it is. Life can be hard enough without being lied to and screwed by a greedy company like this.
I know that most of the collectors working there just need to make a living, and don't think they are evil and wrong, but someone got a bonus for my loan "consolidation"!
Karma comes around and goes around.
Best of luck to us all!

someone from this # called and asked if I knew a person in my neighborhood at a certain address and asked me to take a message to that person.  I asked if it was a medical or family emergency and he said no he just needed to talk to that person and did not have a phone number. I said I did not know that person and he had the gall to ask me for the names & numbers of people in the neighborhood who might know the person and could take a message to him/her.  He is apparently getting information about neighbors of this person off the internet or city directory and harrassing them.  I told him that was illegal and unethical - he informed me he had every right to contact anyone who might know this person to find out how to get in touch with them as long as he did not disclose the reason for his call. I finally hung up on him

Bravo Tara B.  I too owe student loans and the only work that I can find is part time contractual.  I have two Associate degree's(which I paid for) and a BA in Business.  I finally found a job, with the school system, only to get informed that there is a hiring freeze.  The scariest part of all, is that our state is headed for double digit unemployment.  Believe me I want to pay my student loan off, but I can't find a job to do so.  I barely live now and make ultimate sacrifices to survive.  I never dreamed that I would see this happen in our time.  All you hear is that you need a degree to get ahead, but what happens when there are no jobs to be had?  Thank you too Veronica.  People should not be harassed, there truly are those who want to pay and are having to defer and anything else at this time.

This ignorant People Called my Mom and Dad asking for someone else. They were told that person didn't live there and wasn't available of course. Then repeatedly called back. Fishing for information on a dead ex wife of his. They called 14 times!
So I called them back, texted and left messages. I was beyond pissed. I wasn't nice by any means. Someone and everyone has a job to do, but use some morals and respect when doing phone business. Calling my Mom let alone anyone's a dumb [***] won't get you brownie points here and I will travel. She called my MOM that bluntly... My Mom is so mild that she was more than offended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!So This company or what ever it was has no need to have to right to call anyone from where I stand. This woman was rude, indecisive as to what she wanted and plain out Stupid!.

Casually asks for my husband by first name only.  I think I hear correctly but am not certain, so I ask, "Pardon me?"  "Oh, sorry.  Yeah is Steve there?" asks the voice.  "I'm calling for a reference for Joe?  He left this number as a reference if he couldn't be reached."  So, my husband is still at work.  I'm uncertain as to when he'll be in for sure.  The woman wants to call back.  "Will I give Joe a message?" she asks me.  I tell her I haven't spoken to Joe in months.  I cannot even tell her where he is because I don't know.  She may try back tonight, she iterates.  All I know.  My guess: bill collector for Joe.
