- Frank M Bluffton, SCIt's not a scam. I received a call from this number after changing banks. In a voice mail (one call on Monday and one call on Tuesday), the Caller said they were with AMX Merchant Services (yes, they sound like they're from India) and wanted me to confirm change information. I called the number they left and confirmed the information. Later, I got to thinking about the possibility of a scam, so I called the (verified) AMX Merchant Services 800 number and they told me that, for some accounts, they will call to confirm requested changes. She said she saw a record of the call and my confirmation and not to be concerned.
- Caller: AMEX Merchant Services
- Concerned CustomerI received a call from this number, requiring personal information, in order to avoid funding to our account to be impacted (including home address and full SS #). I refused and called our Amex contact associated with our account. They stated it was fraudulent and they would never request this information. And would never call for personal or business details. Please be cautious!
- Caller: Claimed Amex
- Marcia B602-766-6484 is a total SCAM. The caller ID said "American Express," but I verified directly with American Express and they said it is not their number or in any way affiliated with American Express.
- Caller: SCAM saying they're Amex
- MaxI do not believe this is a scam. I have a business that I run from home. I recently moved and they called to inform me that they need a utility bill from me in order to verify my business address. They DID NOT ask me for my social or anything that I would not feel comfortable in providing.
- Caller: AMEX

- Max| 1 replyThis IS NOT a scam! Yes, I've spoken with a middle eastern guy twice but it's AMEX. If you have a merchant account you may not want to ignore these calls or you may not be able to run AMEX payments again. IT'S LEGIT!
- Caller: American Express Merchant Services

- Amy**** BEWARE ********** -----Some say this is legit, I say this is suspicious of being fraudulent. First of all, I received multiple calls from the (602) number that people are associating with these calls. The '602' calls were made to my personal cell phone, several calls (that I did not answer as I didn't know the number) over the period of about 3 weeks. No message ever left. Let me start by saying that I do not have an AMEX card, have not tried to sign up for a card and have NEVER had an Amex card, so no reason for them to be calling me. They would NEVER leave a message to identify who they were as a caller.
Today, I received a call from the 888 number at my office (where I've been a manager for years). They did not reference the business, but asked for me by name. ** Our office does not-- and has NEVER-- accepted AMEX as a form of payment.**
I was told by the gentleman with the heavy Indian accent that on May 15th of 2014 and on August 1st of 2014, there were two payments due to our office from Amex. I explained to him that we did not accept Amex in our offices, and in fact, if staff were to mistakenly swipe an Amex card, our merchant terminal is set so that it it automatically rejected. I asked him for reference numbers for those charges or pt last names or anything and he could give no specifics other than the amounts of $50 that he would be happy to forward to us if I could provide him with some information about our company.
I again explained that there was no way that this charge could have happened, that even if we'd mistakenly tried to swipe the Amex card, that the terminal would have rejected it and that we would have asked for alternate payment from the patient. He says to me that the money would have been held. While it makes no sense that a patient would have called us if they would have had funds held on their Amex for eight months -- especially when they would have paid via alternate methods-- I said to him that if funds HAD been held, that they belonged to the patient and not to us.
He says, "No, no ma'am.... it's AMEX that will pay you, not the patient". I told him I didn't want the patient having a $50 charge against their card this many months later, when they had already paid via alt means and he says, "the patient will not have the money come against them. Amex will pay this."
When I told him that made no sense, because if I use my personal credit card, that I am charged for that transaction and it would be reflected on my statement... and again he says, "no ma'am".
******* Then he says to me: "The patient wouldn't even have to know a thing about it." ********************
I refused to give him information over the phone and asked if I could get a call back number so I could research this and call him back. He said OK and provided me the 888 number that is referenced in this search. When I called back, there was no reaching the caller.
The call was sketchy at best. Considering we have never had an Amex card and that our office does not accept Amex as a form of payment, I am curious to know why they are trying to obtain our business information.- Caller: Says they are Amex: I don't believe them (READ WHY)
- peterClaims to represent American Express but seems no business. Asked her to delete my number.
- Caller: American Express
- Jerry| 1 replyCalled yesterday, did not pick up, no message left.
Called again today, saying it's AMEX. Said for verification purpose he wants to know my DOB, I said I did not recognize this number so I won't give out this information and hung up.
Like Amy said, sketchy at the best.- Caller: AMEX
- S. McKinnen replies to JerryCalled Amex merchant services to change bank accounts for out credit card deposits. Was called back from this number to verify the information. They knew I had called to change the depositing account.
- warySCAM: Got a call claiming to be American Express regarding recent changes to my account. Left a 1-888 call back number. I called an official American Express number asking about my account. The representative said that there was no record of American Express having called me, that American Express would not call me in this fashion and that the call I had received did not originate from American Express.
- Caller: Claimed to be American Express
- HalGuy with heavy forign sounds like Indian wanted to speak to my wife about a call she made to AMEX. My wife did not call Amex!
- A C RI called AMEX for an issue with my name on my Corporate Card, and I spoke to 3 different people, all in India, who didn't really understand my issue. I then got a call from this number asking me if my personal pin # didn't work, which wasn't why I called AMEX today. Seems suspicious. She kept asking me for more info and I just hung up on her. Don't trust it.
- KellyI got a phone call from an Indian man claiming to be from American Express Fraud Dept. He said he needed to verify that I was the one who applied for my Amex card because he said they were getting word that it was not me who applied. He knew the last 5 digits of my card and asked me if I applied for that card in the year I applied for it. I said yeah.. then I got suspicious and asked if I could talk to someone else. He said to call the number on the back of my card. I said can you transfer me? He said no and acted like he wanted to get off the line with me. I called Amex right away and they said that the number was not associated with them and they would “look into it.” They canceled my card and sent me a new one.
- jpGot a call today and he said he was calling a name which was nothing close to mine... I asked where he was from and he said american express.. I told him the name he gave Steven .. was not close to anyone in my home or account..

- BillyThis number is 100% a scam. I chatted with americanexpress customer service online just a second ago and asked about this number. It isn't theirs. My Reverse Lookup app showed AMEX as the caller but spammers/phishers are sophisticated these days. My card is frozen right now because of a purchase (non-fraudulent) and I'm trying to get it restored. The real AMEX, as a security measure is supposed to call and leave a voicemail with a reference number. These scammers know that and call you asking for that number. They will ask for it even before you have it, on the off-chance they caught you at a good time...definitely a sign they are scammers. I'm so pissed. AMEX customer service ain't that great either though. They are slow and need to warn customers of these people. Yeah yeah yeah we should know better but they need to do their part too. Frustrated.
- XXXLooks like a genuine call from Amex about the recent customer service.
- Caller: American Express
