- DebI was on the phone with Amex trying to troubleshoot an online problem and was disconnected. I happened to notice this number on my cell phone later as a missed call with no name, so it is possible it was legit and just amex trying to follow-up. No message left.

- Fraud Squad| 2 repliesPart of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

- DS1972 replies to not fooled by scam guy!| 1 replyI applied for an Amex Blue Card through an online partner. I filled out the information, and received a message that AMEX needed to speak with me personally to give me the credit card. They called today to verify. So, yes, I believe it was AMEX. It's legit. If it was a scammer, they would have already done the damage on line. I think that they just wanted to verify a name with a phone number.
- Kate N.I received a call from a woman with an East Indian accent. Call was from Phoenix, AZ. She stated she was calling from Amex about a letter going out to my business (?) and had to verify some information. Then gave me a confirmation number for when I called back to phone # 1-888-511-0706 ext 70553. I don't have an Amex card, nor did I request one so whether it's legit or not, it's unsolicited.
- Caller: American Express
- Kate N. replies to Fraud SquadThank you! That's exactly what I thought.

- holly j replies to samwow, you must get a LOT of complaints about how rude you are!
- PennyThis is actually Amex. I work for the company, just got a call, and yes, we have some people that have accents. I don't ever recommend giving any personal info out over the phone, however.
- Cynthia BrownGot this call from this number. They called my home and my cell # . I tried calling them back and no one would answer the phone. They called me at 7:23 a.m. my time. Why would they even call me???
- Caller: American Express
- IdonthinksoBogus! Caller claimed to be from Amex, stated I had applied for a card online (I had not done so, never have). Asked for last 4 digits of my SSN. Never give out your personal identifying info when an unknown party calls you. Credit card companies do not call and ask for your personal identification over the phone....they're too savy and concerned about fraud and we should be too.
- Caller: "AmEx?
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Rick Simonwho is this ??? I want these calls STOPPED !!!!!
- is this a scam?Got a call from this number and a lady asked for my address and last my banking and routing number right off the bat. She claimed she was with American Express Rep, but just really seemed fishy with how force full and how direct and her tone in the conversation went.
Also, became very cautious when I had talked to American Express the previous day and they claimed that everything was setup correctly.
While on a brief hold, I googled the number and I came across this report. And got various answers through this report. Some saying it was a scam and others saying it was okay.
So to others that are out there and chose to read this, best thing I can suggest is to hang up and call american express direct.- Caller: Claimed to Be American Express
- Kate N.I received a call from a man (Amhan) with an East Indian accent. Call was from Phoenix, AZ. He stated he was calling from American Express Merchant Services about some payments they were trying to send to a Interrell Meat Market (?). Then gave me a reference number (NY5947366) for when I called back to phone # 1-888-511-0706 ext 70575 anytime Monday through Friday 7a-330p (Modern Standard Time or Mountain Standard Time, couldn't understand the first word). I don't have an Amex card, nor did I request one so whether it's legit or not, it's unsolicited.
- Caller: Said they were American Express
- Steven F replies to not fooled by scam guy! This is REALLY American Express. They contacted me because of a payment to my business they were trying to process, but had issues with our address (our business just moved). The number they called from was 602-766-6484 out of Phoenix. The message asked me to call back at 888-511-0706. This turned out to be legit. SO....this is NOT a scam.
- Scammer HammerYou people sit here and argue beating a dead horse ! It's SIMPLE !
Call the Number on the Back or your card for ALL BUSINESS issues or go into a local branch ! SIMPLE !
NEVER give out ANY personel info UNLESS it is a legit number from the back of your card or from the banks website ! SIMPLE ! PERIOD END OF STORY PEOPLE !
If you get a call from a number that your not familiar with, hang up and call back so that you know your dealing with your financial institution ! Don't call a number back that someone you don't know gives you or your caller ID shows ! Look up the correct number from known resources and call back ! Yes it's a little more work and if it ends up being that the original caller was legit just apologize and tell them your just being cautious ! It's a fraud department they will totally understand !
In this era of computers and cell phones, scammers can hijack legit numbers and make legit numbers show up on your caller ID when it's not the number your really talking too ! Scammers can break into phone switches and do all sorts of things that's why if you call a number you have researched your safe !
NEVER NEVER NEVER give out personel info to incoming callers ! Again like many others have said, your bank has this info and for verification purposes they will only ask for the last four numbers of your SS number ! If they ask for the entire number BE SUSPICIOUS and never give it !
LAST BUT NOT LEAST . . . . Take care of and continually educate and remind your elder friends and family members to never ever give out any of their info ! They often get confused and pressured into giving their info to these scum bags ! What kind of low life p.o.s. preys on our elderly and steals their money they have worked an entire lifetime to earn and save ? ! Really ? These scum bags should be strapped to a tree and shot right between the eyes ! Better yet staked to a bed of red ants in the Nevada desert and left there to die a slow death ! Yes extreme but I HATE thieves that steel from the working class because they are too lazy and stupid to go out and make their own money ! Get a phuking life ! - PeterGuy with indian accent claiming from AMEX Merchant Services requesting verification or risk suspension (lol) of my merchant account. Called the 866 number he provided and a woman with indian accent asked me to verify (or provide to them) my business name, address, wants me to fax over my business incorporation certificate.
I said I would fax it, but instead I called the real AMEX number from my statements and a man with normal accent says I have nothing to be concerned about.
So, we are in USA. Next time I hear someone with indian accents asking for confidential info I will just hang up. - DarenThis number called me. I didn't answer. They left a VM regarding a specific question I had called them about two days earlier. Not a scam. None.
- DavidLike many, said it was Amex, but our business does not accept Amex cards and they were vague and a touch evasive when I asked them specific questions... transaction numbers etc. Been a member since 1973 and this did not sound like the Amex I know whatsoever and hung up.
- Caller: American Express
- MelanieI live in Canada and had recent dealings with Amex. I just got a call from this number, but as a rule of thumb our household does not answer strange numbers. No message was left, and I Googled the number like I always do. I find it highly suspicious that "Amex" would not call from a toll-free number, ask people for their SIN (Cdn equiv to SSN), and basically asking you to verify your personal information. It doesn't work like that, folks. I am going to call Amex now and see if they have any record of this call.
- CJ602-766-6484
I attempted to call this number back when I saw it stored with American Express as the ID. The telephone rang for three minutes, no answer, which raised my suspicion. Therefore, I called American Express customer service for them to check. AmEx customer service checked my account, found nothing flagged against it and did not recognize this number, but now are investigating.- Caller: "American Express"
