this is a legit call from AMEX.  I had a pending question for their customer service team and they promissed a call back.  The call back came from this number.

Well, if you work for American Express you have real s***** customer service skills. Why don't you give us your name so we can call your supervisor and see if this number really is the s***. Don't trust anyone DTA

Our company receives solicitation calls from this phone number all the time. They start out their spiel with "This is not a solicitation call" then quickly follow with: "But we wish to discuss our various services we can provide for your AMEX customer" My person also said they called the number and was immediately put through a hard sell.

Their intro speech is very misleading.

I had a voicemail from this number when I came into work this morning, asking me to call back at: 1-888-426-7995 regarding some payments that had been made in our business with Amex. I was originally suspicious as I was under the impression that we don't accept Amex where I work.

I called Amex on their 'general support' line and explained the situation. The first person I spoke to could not find the 1-888-426-7995 number as being registered in their system, but suggested I try to contact merchant services just in case.

I called merchant services, and she confirmed it IS indeed their number, apparently part of some division called Customer something or other. It looks like we actually are set-up to accept Amex, but since we didn't know it we had never confirmed our account information with American Express, and as a result those payments had never gone through.

In short, it is in fact American Express.

There is also some type of technology that can make it appear that a person is calling from a specific number but is not. So use caution when answering a call.  The bad news is all of you could be right.

This number, 602-766-6484, is American Express.  I had disputed a charge.  A person (Eastern Indian) called to request additional information about the disputed charge. I did not answer the call.  I called back to an (866) number that also had a 5-digit extension,  All legit.

This is a legit American Express callback. I was on the phone with Sandra (Indian accent) who I reached through calling the Amex Cust service number on the back of my Delta skymiles  card. We were disconnected in the middle of the call somehow. She called me back from this number and confirmed her name, what we were speaking about and asked me if I was comfortable continuing with the call. wHen in doubt just call the number on the back of your American Express card if you already one to be sure you are speaking with Amex.

I received the same call just now with an Indian accent. I told him all was handled and hung up.

Just missed a call from 602-766-6484. A common thread with other reports on this site is that I recently had a communication with AmEx.

got a call from this number. he left a voicemail stating someone called accessing my information. I called Amex and they reassured me that no information was compromised

Got a message from this number, was referencing an issue I had called AMEX about earlier in the day.  Said to call AMEX main hotline on back of card when able.

Yes, it's LEGIT. Yes, they are middle-eastern but they're AMEX employees.

Got a call on my cell from this number.  No request for information & no message left.

Got call from 602.766.6484 to both my office and cell. When I called back, a recording said the number was no longer in service. Called AMEX, they checked and said there were no inquiries pending on any of my accounts and the number was NOT associated with AMEX. Customer Service recommended never giving information to anyone unless you call the number on the back of your card to verify that you are receiving a call from AMEX.

I spoke with amex this morning on a number of issues using my home phone. tonight I got a voicemail message on my cell phone from a man with a heavy indian accent saying that I needed to call amex about an important issue and to please use the number on the back of my amex card. when I did that the amex agent found no issues on my account, so I asked for her supervisor who also found no issues on my account. she also dialed the number and got a strange type of busy signal that suggested it was a disconnected phone.  very strange. why would they call on my cell? what benefit would they have from me calling the real number?

Got two calls from this number with a strong indian accent, I called the number back but said nt connected. I then chatted with AMEX and they said it was a scam

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions.  Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is genuine - an obvious giveaway.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:
