I received a call from that number yesterday evening march 30th and it said illinois police on caller id my grandson goes to siu in carbondale (618) is carbondale area code got scared  something happened to him  called him right away he was ok  so i guess it was a scam police call

Just called; let it go to answering machine, but no message. I then checked here.

Thanks to all that post here so that we know we need to block the number.

got call at 2pm.  knew it had to be a scam, but answered and just said 'no thanks' when they started saying they were collecting funds and just hung up.  almost immediately, got a call from Breast Cancer of ? . just didn't answer. and message machine had no message.

This call is a scam out of Collinsville, Illinois. This guy is using technology to trick people into thinking he is someone he isn't by spoofing their name on caller ID units. My caller ID actually read "Illinois Police" and while we are very aware there is no such entity called "Illinois Police" in existence, my husband still felt the need to answer what he knew was going to, ultimately, be a bogus call. It was. The guy was attempting to solicit a donation, implying it would benefit the police. My husband asked several questions and the caller hung up on him.

There is an actual "Illinois Police Association" but this is NOT the number that is phoning people (618-855-0185).  The real organization is located in Elmwood Park, IL and their phone number begins with a 708 area code. However, no good, legitimate organization that is calling to solicit donations and do wonders with a person's funds should ever treat them with anything but kindness, patience, and goodwill.

These people calling should absolutely be reported, not only to the FTC ( www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0076-phone-scams ), but to the Illinois Attorney General's Office as well: www:illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/phonescams.html

AS A CONSUMER, you should always know your charity. Just because the Illinois Police Association is an actual charity, it is up to each individual out there to decide, through education and research (Charity Navigator, Guide Star, your State's AG office, BBB, etc.) whether or not those soliciting your hard earned money are worthy of receiving it.

I have found whenever the Caller ID says it is a town, It's a scam.

It's difficult to identify the more predatory fundraisers using various disguises as to who they are depending on the demographics they are working at the time. Name usage, acronyms, play on names, are all part of their deceptive business practices used calling the elderly and uninformed. All charities based or calling to from Florida are familiar (most in denial) with Florida's "Do Not Call List" requirements as shown under Florida's "Do Not Call Policy, charities / sales" as seen https://www.fldnc.com/About.aspx include demand "internal do not call list" of all "databases" after answering, asking which fundraiser, is calling.
You are a consumer with rights of not wanting to participate and not wanting to receive calls when dealing with charities!

ID said Collinsville. IL.  I picked it up (usually don't, but I got mad). Me: "What!?"  Him: (politely and with a Hollywood voice) "How are you today?"   After he told me he was with the Illinois Police doing a fund raiser I told him, "Yeah, and I'm Princess Diana" and hung up.  I've been polite in the past, but then these guys just keep trying to bend your arm into your wallet, so me further explaining that I don't trust ph calls of this nature wasn't worth it.  Blocked him.  I DO NOT BELIEVE FOR A SECOND that this was authentic.

Criminal scammers using an AI program to fool people into thinking it's a real person, a sure sign it's a scam.

Got called by this number a few minutes ago.  Caller ID said "Illinois Pol;ice" but I did not answer.  They hung up as soon as it went to voice mail.  My wife used to be suckered into these scam calls from supposed  "police organizations" since some of her nephews are cops, but since her passing, I am answering or NOT ANSWERING the phone and know full well the kind of PREDATORS who are out there.

If you get a call like this, DON'T ANSWER.  Let it go to voice mail and see if they leave a message, if any..

not sure what this is but asking for donations for the Illinois police and was transferred to a person with a heavy NON USA accent.  Troublesome.

I just received a call from this number 618-855-0185. When I answered I said hello they just hung up. Call I.D. "Illinois Police" I checked the number of the Illinois State Police and it is 847-294-4400. This is obviously someone trying to scam us all.

Called and didn't leave a message.  Blocked now.

Noticed the "Illinois Police" moniker on the caller ID. Suspected a scam but just for curiosity called the number (not recommended). Reached a recorded message saying that they will call back in the future. Nothing so far (couple of days have passed), thanks all for the heads up on these creeps. Seeing anything "police" on the caller ID is disturbing.

I just received a call from this phone number.  When I saw that it was from the Illinois Police, I answered it.  Wrong thing to do.  The person was asking for a donation.  I told him if he would send me something explaining what the donation would be used for, I would look at it.  He then agreed to it but didn't ask for my address.  He then asked if he could count on me for at least a $15 donation.  I told him let me see what the information he said he would send me and I would make my determination from that.  He then said, "Sorry to bother you" and hung up.  I have blocked the number.
