14 Jun, 6:40pm, Criminal scammers pretending to be police. Illinois police & fire are prohibited by state law from telephone solicitation.

If you (or your VM) answers call - they will add a script to your phone and they can listen to room discussions/noise whether phone is on/off.

Go and buy a call blocker for your landline. Amazon has them for 50 bucks. You add numbers as they come in and create a blacklist. The phone rings once then cuts them off. Peace is restored and you are Queen of the castle once again.

Beware of putting any stock into what caller id tells you. There are some bad folks that can manipulate what name and number is sent. I've received calls with my name and number in the caller id. The fact that they are using computer based calling and not traditional phone service allows them to do this. It's all fake.

Call and hangs up no message.  Appears to be another scam using State Police😈

Just what types of answering machines allow implanting of scripts?

And if you are talking about cellphones, can you provide a link to support your assertion that merely by answering a call that the caller can take control of a phone?

Never call back.

If a caller is legitimate, they'll leave a number and a message and they won't keep calling.

If the caller is a scammer, then the number may be spoofed, so if you do reach someone, it may be an innocent party or it might be a non-working number.

If the caller is a scammer and you do get a real phone number, then all you are doing is confirming that they reached a valid number - and they'll sell your number to other scammers.

There is zero benefit to calling back.

This $cammer uses all kinds of #'s & we noticed he calls on Saturday AMS most of the time. #'s have appeared as ILLINOIS POLICE FOP /KEITH DAUGHERTY/ COLLINSVILLE IL & now? Top # is: V61812341000584 & 1-618-855-0185. GO AWAY! This was on 6/18/16 @ 11:34 AM CT

I have heard of scammers out there who can upload spyware the second your line becomes active by either you or your VM answering the phone.  If they can steal your info simply by sitting outside a gas station and waiting for somebody to pay with a credit/debit card at the pump, than anything is possible.

Calls have been coming on a regular basis for about two months. There must be a better way to stop these scammers than blocking these annoying calls. HELP!

My VOIP call history shows they called again today with 11 consecutive attempts as their statistical dialer apparently repetitively initiates calls  whenever they get a busy signal ( had already set this number to always receive a busy signal).

My call blocker may be wearing out from all the times it has dumped this police charity scam.

Unwelcome call on my unlisted land line @ 2:06 p.m. on 6/20/2016. There was no message left. I hate running to see who is calling. This is very annoying. I will block it, but really I can only block 250 calls and I keep getting 5-10 calls a day.This is crazy. Sometimes I delete a number from months ago only to have to re-block it. Some of them are the similar exchanges. Thank you for this site that helps us identify these spam callers.

Get a call blocker. Amazon has many different brands available. My CPR blocker has 1200 entries in the block list. One ring and the blocker dumps the scam caller . This fake police charity is a real pain.

That CPR blocker can block complete area codes. You can use that option if you have no friends or business contacts in the area code!

A very automated voice went into a speech about the Illinois Police until  I said "You're a Robot" the system cut off the speech, the robot said NO and then it hung up. Obvious Scam.
