"Illinois police" fake charity that wants momey

Rcvd call from Illinois Police.  Wanting money for injured cops and killed ones.  Known scam.

"I have heard of scammers out there who can upload spyware the second your line becomes active by either you or your VM answering the phone."

Huh?  My home phone is not computerized, so how the heck could they upload spyware to it?

Do you have a link to support what you are spreading?

"If they can steal your info simply by sitting outside a gas station and waiting for somebody to pay with a credit/debit card at the pump, than anything is possible."

They can't.  Where did you hear THAT one?  They would have to have installed a skimmer on the pump.

That's very different than being able to call someone and start stealing information from their phone.

You seem to believe unfounded rumors.

Got a call. Caller ID said Illinois Police.

The 'fake' police called again this morning.....
Do NOT give any information, let alone money to these lying scammers.
He calls day and night. Normally, I don't answer, but decided to take the call this morning. Hopefully, the fake officer got the point.

I refuse to spend money on a call blocker. Scammers can call all they want. It's their dime.

My caller ID showed a ridiculously long......V625113606005285 for this phone number 618-855-0185. Tried to call back using 'private' for myself.  Got voice message...."This number has been disconnected". So irritating to be awakened at 7:00 a.m. by this.  It rang twice, stopped for a few seconds, rang twice again.  I am so sick and tired of these calls.  Things seem to be getting worse by the day.

I was working outside and awaiting a call about the completion of repairs to my car so I forwarded the house phone calls to my cellphone. I had my headset on so I couldn't see the Caller ID (which turned out to be "COLLINSVILLE IL") when the phone rang. I said, "Good afternoon" and a human-sounding male voice said, "Hello, I'm Keith Dougherty." I asked what company he was with and "he/it" rapidly responded with "Keith Dougherty Keith Dougherty" and then went silent without disconnecting. It had sounded like the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) robot's circuits had crashed. After another minute I hung up and blocked the number.

Those of you who want to give support to charities that aid police have to go through a two-step process.

One: you may be getting scammed, and the person calling you is not connected with any charity at all, and

Two: the charity may be properly incorporated, and have 501(c)3 status, and still, it spends too much money on administrative expenses, and not enough money helping people.

So to take care of part one, assuming you have answered the phone, ask the guy to call you back in a couple of days, and then look up the CID number at 800notes.com.

To take care of part two, start out at

www.charitynavigator.org

and search for the name of the charity, and read what they say about how much of every dollar goes to the people who need their services.

And then, go to

www.tampabay.com/americas-worst-charities/

and hope that you don't find the charity there.

Illinois Police, yeah right. No More Robo works great for these types of calls. I wondered if our beloved leader of this country gets these calls too. Perhaps they pay someone full time to screen his calls with our tax dollars.

Or you can buy a Panasonic cordless for less. It blocks up to 250 numbers.  It is model 7141. Makes a good cordless extension, too.

At least the Illinois Police scammers are nice enough to use the same phone number, so they are easy to block.

Received numerous calls for several months and wondering why CID states IL Police  - no message left-  solicitors or inmates?

I have received multiple call from them this number and I have blocked them since they began calling. They don't stop. Caller ID says illinois police.

Robocall. I added this to my "fake police" filter. That has +18156878476, +16185515655,    +16188550185  in the list now.

I listed "Call Type: Non-profit organization" because 800 Notes does not offer a suspected scammer or known scammer choice. I suspect they are actually set up as a non profit, tho they do try to sound as if they are police. I used to mess with them engaging with them until they said they were not police. I do believe they are sanctioned by a police union.
