    I got a call from them on my cellphone. It may be a legitimate collection agency as I have gotten a bit behind, but they want too much info on me. If it's really Amex, wouldn't they already have my info???

    As soon as I can get a handle on my medical bills and/or receive some child payments from a delinquent Dad, I'll catch up. But until then, I think I'll block this number which seems to be coming from another country? Maybe not, but every single time its an Indian accent seems suspicious. Why can't they hire people who need jobs in this country? Maybe they pay too little to employees? Well, maybe I should pay this card off and just deal with my local community bank which keeps my money in my town!! Sorry to rant.

    They called and all I heard was silence, then a beep, then the call was disconnected? It was creepy for me.

    It is my opinion that this is some sort of scam, they call, hang up on you. One out of ten people calls back and one out of ten of the people who call back mistakingly and naively give their Social Security numbers.

    This is like selling vacuum cleaners for them! All they need to do is prey on some young stupid people, or some elderly people who are not aware that they are scammers.

    How do we put a stop to this? Please, inform the police.

    I keep getting phone calls from this number.  I haven't answered since I rarely answer calls from numbers I don't recognize.  They never leave a messege.

    They woke me from a sound sleep on a Sunday Morning - Father's Day, at that.
    Someone's gonna pay, and it ain't me.

    Whoever set this up, get a real job.

    Did not call back, as this is not my thing.

    It is duly noted, and will be handled accordingly.

    The same happened to me at work on a 4th outgoing line- I think that if you call to check your balance at any time they keep that number on file. They also call my cell phone as well.

    This company ID is listed as --Phoenix, AZ, 623-492-6031.
    From researching here it is a debt collector for American Express.
    I DO NOT have an account with them, I do not owe anything or anyone.

    Today was their second call to me in a week looking for someone I knew in the past, and have not seen or heard from in about 10 ten years.
    The first call on June 14, 2010 last week, the girl Julia was very rude, and I told her not to call here and that I had not spoken to the person she wanted for ten 10 years. I told her I did not even know if that person was dead or alive. She upset me because she was rude, the conversation was being recorded WITHOUT  the company alerting me.  I believe that is unlawful, and a federal offence to record a conversation and not tell the party, and or get permission. Just because there are beeps is not proper notification and or permission. There is no reason I should be upset by someone or company I have nervier done business with.

    Today the company called again, a second call, I believe a second call is unlawful when looking for another person, and after I told them I have no knowledge of the person and not to call my home.
    I believe it is also unlawful to call any debtor's contacts of friends, work or family be called TWICE,
    especially when asked not to the first time.

    The girl today June 22, 2010 was not rude so I repeated to her that I have not seen or have any knowledge of the person she wanted for over 10 or so years, and that person never lived here. I told her that was the second call to my home and that it needed to stop. I expressed that I heard the beeps and she never alerted me or asked permission that the conversation was being recorded. She did confirm that is was related to American Express. I told her to speak to her superior.

    Is just every corporation allowed to get away with bad behavior----

    Ive got a small 91K) running balance on my Amex and thought that might be who it was, but I check the list here and saw that it was sketchy so I didnt answer until today....

    Extremely rude. They are extremely pushy and non responsive to requests. I told them I would call the number on my amex and the guy on the phone argued with me why I shouldn't do that. Frankly, this is my first bad experience with an Amex affiliate. Finally I hung up on them and called amex and made a payment. But the guy wouldnt stop harrasing me until I hung up on him! Ha.

    Oddly enough, he knew my history with Amex, as well as my payment account (bank account) information on file with Amex.

    Got a call from 623-492-6031 asking to verify that I just opened a card and also needed to verify my address and phone number.  Always suspicious of these phone calls, I called the 888 number on the back of my card and AMEX did verify that this number is from their security and fraud division.  From other descriptions on this site, it sounds like they might do collections and some other things as well, but it is an AMEX phone number.

    received a call from them today.  they did not leave a message.  i called the amex number on the back of my card.  the rep i spoke with at amex could not say one way or another whether this was a valid amex number or not, but she did say to exercise caution.

    i do have an amex card and there is nothing out of the ordinary with my account so there is no reason for amex to be calling me.

    i did not call the number back.

    given that anyone can post a message on this message board, i would hazard a guess that (a) it's a bogus number and (b) all the posts on this message board stating that this is a valid amex number are fraudulent posts from the people running the scam number in an attempt to get you to call them.

    exercise caution.  do not call this number.  if you suspect there might be something in your account that requires attention, call the number on the back of your card.  it's that easy.  and if your number is on the national do not call registry, file a complaint at

    Unless you call Amex directly, never respond to an inbound call from Amex or a Bank askng for your information.about your credit or debit cards. There are too many security lapses with these systems and unless you want youi identify stolen, do not respond or even call them back. I agree with the previous comment, call the number on the back of your card or on your statement.

    My professon is to help people get theri stolen identities back. While there are many incidents of how a person's identify is stolen, the number one method is a person responding to a phone call or website that asks for personal information. The risk is not worth it.

    Hello all.  Okay, I've been in contact with the Amex corporate offices and have spoken to Ken Chenault's personal assistant about these calls.  Amex admits they are making the calls, but amazingly, they aren't sure why they are making them.  They are still looking into this, but it appears to be a telemarketing effort (and illegal one, since robocalls are now illegal in the U.S.).

    If you get a call from Amex, please report it immediately to the FTC.  They are starting an investigation and the more complaints they get, the more likely it will be that they can put a stop to it.

    Call the FTC at 1-877-382-4357, and file a complaint in person about the calls.  Make sure to tell them it was a robocall, and that you didn't ask to be called.  Every complaint helps!

    Amex may call you fro the following numbers:
    623-492-6031; 602-537-9012; 800-592-1160; 800-441-0521;
    888-819-2135; 800-824-9289; 800-678-0738; 888-315-0988;
    877-352-6747; 877-366-6737; 888-258-3741; 800-555-4318;

    Thanks!

    Had 3 calls in the past week. The man that called did not tell me who he was or what company he was calling from. I knew that it was a scam and hung up right away. I don't have insurance or any out standing bill due with any one. This is a scam to call ramdon numbers to that they can clone your number when you answer it only takes 30 seconds for the clone. So if you hang up before the 30 seconds they call back at a later time. Keep you on the phone till this time they have your number. Check your bill for odd calls that you have not placed or data transfers that are to numbers you don't know. It was just a $3.00 charge but if they can do this with thousands of numbers they cheat the system and you out of money.

    They called me at 7:30PM today and I am in good standing on my AMEX account. For example, my monthly payment is $20 and I always pay $200. My account is nearly paid off and has never been past-due, so there is no call for AMEX billing or collections to contact me.

    Total sham. I am reporting to the link the guy provided above.

    Get REAL
    I'm miffed by this!  I in fact called a real AmEx number to get the low down because of these posts.  People are posting incorrect info regarding these numbers and another one ( 336-393-7010 )  But I don't get the part where people are saying they don't even have a card and getting called by one of the below numbers??

    The number, is in fact for AmEx, probably an outsourced number, but it's when your late, or behind, just as our payment had not been processed by the stupid bank over the weekend.

    Anyway... call the 800 number on your card to be safe, but just know - these number are NOT some kind of scam.

    I confirmed all these numbers with a REAL AmEx representative.  602-537-9012  and 623-492-603 ARE part of AmEx -  BOTH are in Arizona.  (as well as the first number mentioned)
