Thank you all for the information. Does anyone know how these folks obtain a cell phone number and how to stop these calls? I do NOT give my cell to anyone but family & friends. I find it annoying and harassing to receive calls on my private cell, sometimes at 8:30 am in the morning up until 9:00 pm at night. The calls are relentless, invasive and clearly meant to break down the receiver of these calls. If a credit card company truly has a concern, old fashioned letters, on certified letter head, that can be confirmed and verified as legitimate activities by authorized personnel of that company certainly seems like the better option. Collectors (legitimate and not) stand to reap great financial reward at the expense of solid, law abiding, tax paying citizens. Thus, once again proving the depravity of man (or woman) who does not operate from the vantage point of compassion and love but rather self interest, greed and self-justification. God help our society whose hearts have grown cold.

Shame on them? One would think privacy were indeed private, but I guess we are all fair game these days and privacy an elusive fantasy found in old, dusty fiction books in a back woods library. For Heaven's sake, life is hard enough. Moral: If you are calling any credit card for information, use a disposable cell phone!!

These people phone everyday asking for employees who are no longer with my company.  They are on my Dont-Pick-Up phone list.

I start breathing hot and heavy when they call...........I describe my lates bowl movement......the caller started to pant.......they are ALL fitly farkin [***]........they do it for kicks.........

But, I've switched tactics.  I figured these losers make money by calling as many people a day as they can,.......and when they finally connect with someone who gives even A HINT of comeing through with info, they will wait....so when I get a call, they give my their shpeil, I say "oh yeah, I've been meaning to talk to you!!!!!! Thanks for calling.....listen, hang on, I left some water boiling, I want to shut it off, will you hang on?  They ALWAYS say yes..............so I drop the phone and go on doing what I was doing, while they wait, probably mastrubating, and wait, and wait.....while I chuckle and hang up after they phone starts buzzing.........

I received a call on my new cell phone from American Express.  They asked for my boyfriend's mother by name, then his brother by name.  The mother lives in another state from us and so does the brother.  WTF?  Why are they calling me on my personal cell phone?  I have NO American Express card - never have, and never will!!!

It is Amex. We have been getting calls for several days. We used the card on the 13th to book 2 hotel rooms for our son's graduation and commissioning ceremony for the Army.

Today we got several calls on my husbands cell and some on our home phone. (We were traveling home)

When I got home I checked my husbands e-mail and there was a message saying we hadn't payed our bill yet. We did, on Friday, it isn't due until next week.

The greedy company is suffering from the lack of repayment back in the day when anyone could get credit so they harrass their good customers as well.

We have been customers since the 70's, never been late and we are sick of these idiots intruding on our lives like they are the parents of young toddlers. I am putting the card away and not using it anymore, it is getting to stressful to be called everytime you use the card on vacation.

I didn't read all the posts, but to summarize what I know:
1. This is legitimately AmEx trying to collect a debt.
2. The calls are annoying, but they don't leave me more than one message per week.
3. They get your cell phone number because you give it to them on your credit application or in a personal info change.
4. They won't stop calling until you figure out what the see is wrong on your account. Sometimes it is their mistake, but usually there really is some kind of issue.
5. If you pick up their call WHEN they call, they should not need to ask for your account number or SSN. If you call them back, giving them that info is the only way they can find your records. If you are worried about the callback number, then just call the number on your card.
6. As soon as I made special arrangements with the people at this number, it showed up in my online account information.

This # is 100% legit! We had American Express personally call this # and had a nice 3 way conversation. This is AMX collection agency in Phoenix  that will auto dial your phone # if your payment is late or not received for any reason as a courtesy call. No, I don't work for AMX but had to finally get to the bottom of these annoying calls. AMX says the calls will usually stop after 24-48 hours account is brought back up to be current. One more note: AMX live customer service can't do anything about this as it is a separate division of AMX but if your account is current with no issues and you still are receiving calls more than 48 hours later, speak with AMX customer service and have them dial this # to tell the collection agency to stop the calls. Hope this answers most of your questions.

I am getting daily calls to a private unlisted number from this 623-492-6031.  I do not have an American Express account not am I or ever was an AMEX customer!  These calls started up this month and it's not the only one, I'm getting several others and I do not have any credit card accounts or nothing!  What the hell is this!??!!!

You BabyDoll, Pontiac and anyone else who says this number is really from the American Express Comany.  You are either the scammers or just really STUPID, or perhaps both?  This is a scam number!  When in doubt ALWAYS call the number on the BACK of your credit card.  Never call a number left on an automated message or you  may very well become their next victim!

They have been hounding me for weeks. I didn't recognize the number so I never answered. I figured if it was important they would leave a message and after about 8 calls from them, I finally got a message. The real kicker though is that I don't even have an American Express card. So whatever they are calling about is clearly some kind of sham. I'm not about to call them back.

Keep getting calls on my cell phone from this number: 623-492-6031. They don't leave a message, they just hang up. When I call the number back I get a recoding asking for my personal information including my complete social security number. I never give that out so I hang up. From all the post it looks like the number belongs to Amex..but I don't have a credit card with Amex so why would they be calling me?

Got a call this morning... 8am on a Saturday. No message was left.

Received a phone call this morning (Saturday) from 623-492-6031.  I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message.  I NEVER answer if I don't know the caller and I would NEVER give my card number to anyone!!!!

Am getting calls from 623-492-6031 and 336-393-7010 on my CELL phone.  No business or company is ever given my cell phone number.  I suspect they are from the same company as they started at the same time.  I don't answer the calls but they come at ALL times of day & night.  They have never left a msg.  suspect marketing, either way it's harrassing.

I have received several calls from this number. Nothing but silence when I answer. I called them back and they asked for my American Express number. I DO NOT have an AMEX card or account!!! I called again later and stayed on the line and eventually got a person. I told them that I did not have an AMEX account and he said, "If you'll just give me your SS# I'll check this out for you!" You have got to be kidding me! I told him that I knew that this was a scam which he denied. I called my local police dept. to report this and it was recommended that I call the Attorney Generals office.

This is a fraudulent company.
