- Astoria Amex CustomerReceived two calls today, January 2. First call in the morning: Caller left a message telling me that AMEX had noticed there was more activity on my card than in the past and instructed me to call the phone number on the back of my AMEX Card. Second call came through in the evening but they did not leave a message
- Scam alert replies to This number is legit!Legit my ass. Your part of the problem. Hopefully you get hit by a bus.
- wnj replies to jgSo true this is a scam, they leave a message and give a 800 number. Anybody can set up a fake 800 and answer it American Express, we called the number on the back of our Amex card ( a totally different number they want you to call) no problem with our card, they did not even try to connect us. DO NOT GIVE ANY INFO TO THESE PEOPLE they should already have it if it's truly real!

- PhylGot a call from this number, same thing, something wrong with my account. Called American Express number from my card, looked my information, nothing wrong with my a ccount. A scam to call 1-800-592-1160. I called to see what the deal was and they immediately wanted my card number. What a SCAM and an evil way of doing business

- Nick replies to pssd offfff| 1 replyI received a call from this number, but no message. I don't even have an an account with them.
- MicheleIdont even have an amex card so why are they calling me and at 8:45 they have some nerve.
- Charlotte,NCHad a message from 623-492-6031 saying call 800-678-0738. I did and they ask for CC#, last four of your SSN and your name. I gave all bogus info to them. GUESS WHAT - They looked up my account and found I owed $878.76 due 1/30. She was so nice she even offered to take my payment over the phone right there so it would not be a problem for me later. She was so sweet. As we say in these part's "BLESS HER HEART" = GO TO HELL!
- Call type: Telemarketer
- change agentre: 623-492-6031. this is a legit number, but the people who work in that office aren't very skilled at being professional. amex has major call centers in arizona.
i work for a third party contractor for amex - change agentoh yeah... this is the main number for a call center that appears when they call you - the people calling when the number is displayed may be in customer service, apply by phone, collections, outboound telemarketing to businesses (which are not covered by the do not call laws - that is for residential numbers only) sometimes the lists the sales people work from have erroneous info - anyone who works with massive marketing databases are familiar with this delimma when there are massive mail merges that don't work right and phoen numbers/addresses and names all get mixed up. as a result, people without cards get calls.
- Brian HobbsThey have called me 3 times and i called AMEX and they had no record of this number. They also checked to see if anyone had called me and no record of that either. I think they want your credit card number which AMEX would never ask for. This is a scam do not give any information to them. When i talked to them they said they could not look up any information which would be a lie. If it was AMEX they could pull up any of the information i asked for.I called this number back and they said they were AMEX but could not help me without a account number.
- Alan NishiokaReceived on my cell phone. Googled, found this site, and assumed it was bogus. But then checked the answering machine for the phone number registered to my AMEX card.
"This is an important message from the American Express account security group. In order to verify recent charge activity and to protect your account, please call us at 1-800-824-9289. You may also call the number on the back of your card; in this case, when prompted by our system, please enter your 15 digit American Express card number and you will be automatically be transferred to our account security group."
I called the number on the back of my card, and this message was legit. The operator had a British accent, I'm guessing an Indian call center.- Caller: American Express

- caught scam replies to NickGot a message from this number claiming to be from AMEX. I called the number on the back of my card and spoke to an actual AMEX rep and they said that the number was not from AMEX and not to call them or give them any info.
- Attempted VictimThis phone number and the service they "claim" to represent is completely a scam and fraudulent!!!! I verified my credit information with the actual American Express company via the number on the back of the card. If you receive a call asking for your account number- DO NOT provide them with ANY information!!! The representative for the "scam" company seemed to know the system and sounded very professional.....but for a professional scam. Be weary if you get this call and immediately call the number on the back of your card and inform the REAL American Express of this scam.

I got one today and talked to the person. The call was meant for my wife and I talked saying I am her, she kept talking...I cross checked with many questions and none of them were correct but these guys are very good. whereever they are getting our personal information from. they seem to have all of our phone numbers which is very rare that even a legit company like american express would have. but they do. they are calling from various phone numbers, one of them is this.
I spotted this right away as fake call. good luck to u all. - mikeTHIS IS A BIG SCAM - NEVER GIVE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION TO ANYBODY THAT CALLS YOU.
