My ex-father-in-law is receiving these call.  I did have an outstanding bill and have spoke to them about it.  I asked to please mail me the bill so I could take care of it.  I was told I had to make a payment right then and there and that would not mail me anything.  They also told me that the interest was 50% of what the original bill was and the payment they wanted only $4 of it would go towards the bill!  Problem is I had moved and put in a change of address to the company I had the bill with. It was a 6 mo same as cash thing and then after the six mo period when the bill was returned to them, because they say they never got a change of address (which I went in the store in person to do...big mistake I guess) they sold the bill to this place.  Anyway.........my father-in-law is 87 yrs old and not in good health.  They continually harrass him.  I just don't know how to get it to stop.  They are very nasty and rude and mean on the phone, not to him, but when I have spoke to them.  If they would only send me the bill stating the amount, so we could work this out that woould be nice.  But I will be damned if I am just gonna make a payment over the phone to who knows who!  AND....the interest keeps going up, way up every month.
Well to say the least I am totally upset on what and how to handle this situation.  I want to pay back what I did originally owe and if there is to be interest at a reasonable rate.  Otherwise, it looks like these people are just not going to get a dime from me.  I am not a bad person and being treated like this is terrible.  Any suggestions anyone?  Thank you in advance..

This guy is a jerk. He stated that his name is Michael Bell (I doubt that is really his name). He is a debt collector. His records are out dated. The debt that he refers to when he calls me has been paid off for 4 years. I actually believed this guy at first and called the creditor. The creditor confirmed that my account is current with a zero balance. When I called him to let him know this, he becam very rude and insisted that I was lying stating that the creditor hired him for the purpose of collecting this debt. I honestly believe he is a scam artist trying to folks to send him money. I am reporting him to the BBB and any other consumer protection agency that I can find.

    The ultimate debter
I received very threatening calls from them with out them having a clue who I was and what I do for a living.  Which I thought was quite comical.

Do not ever pay this type of "collection" agencies. ever.  always find out who is the original owner of the debt and contact them, you will be surprise how much of a mark down on a +$5000.00 dollar debt a credit card company will give you  months and even years after the fact. Most of the time, it will be less than a thousand dollars total that you will have to pay, and have your credit repaired almost over night.  but make sure they put their promise and arrangement in writing first and then sign over the money.

as far as this Client services.... if you want them out of business:

The best thing you can do is waste their time, over and over... have fun with it... have them call you back over and over, put them on hold then check on them to see if they are still there to put them on hold again, put a child(3yrs old) on the phone. answer it and put it next to the TV, get creative. ask them what they are wearing, if they will do obsene acts with your pets... your imagination is the limit...

Aside from calling and sending you letters, they really cant do anything to you or your credit... really. They dont know you, and wont ever try to track you down... ever.  Don't be afraid to tell them how crappy of a day you are having, how much they stink... or what ever... after all they called you so what ever abuse you wish to dish out they better be prepared to take it.   Like my friend said, and I quote, "If you are racist, they can provide a safe healthy outlet~!"

Make it you show, and blow them off, and a little steam while you are at it.

    Enjoy.

Owed them $4500, tried to make payment arrangemnt with Citibank wanted 30 monthly even though I told them that due to death of parent, divorce and heart attack was unable to make that payment. They would'nt work with me so they turned it over to their collection company Client Services. They call about 10 times daily. I don't bother answering it. The original $4500 is now $9600 with interest & fees. I'm claiming bankruptcy. Good Luck with them getting a penny of the money.

These people are harrassing me as well for my step mother who lives in a completely different state.  The guy was extremely rude and said, "If your step mother would start acting like an adult and call us back then we wouldn't have to call you."  She is in her 60's.  I told them that they were rude and no wonder she doesn't call you back.  He was threatening to call an attorney I told him to go ahead.  I asked him if he liked being called at home at 9:00 at night, and he said no.  So I told him to stop calling me.  I don't even have any business with them.

Jack White called me from this company wanted me to get in touch with my neighbor.  He has been trying for a week to get her.  I looked them up online to see they are a debt collector.  I don't think it is right for them to apply pressure using their neigbors.  Thank goodness they disconnected their phone.

I received a call from this number, but did not answer. I get a lot of calls now that the bills are not getting paid. I went through a divorce and had to file bankruptcy 7 years ago, so I've been there and done that. Here's your answers guys and gals...answer the phone call and play along as if you are going to make a payment. Ask them "Where do I send it?" The reason is that if you say you don't have the money right now they will keep hounding you. It's their job to annoy you enough, persuade, whatever it takes to get you to pay. If you play along, get the address, send a "cease and desisit letter" (you can Google a sample) CERTIFIED RETURN RECEIPT for proof, BY LAW they must stop contacting you.  Bad things happen to good people too. Kick your feet up and enjoy the silence.

Bill collector, citi card sells this account to them after it goes through bk, and thinks that it is collectable. They call all living and some dead relatives just to further smear you.

Bad juju, law breakers for sure.

    Fed Up in Maryland

I have been receiving calls for a "Shannon Smith" on my cell phone for over a year now.  I finally got fed up and called them back on their number.  I was transferred to a gentlemen who was very nice and said I wouldn't be bothered again. Well that lasted about 4 months.  This morning I received a call again and was talked to by a very nasty man.  I asked him what part of he has the wrong number he understands.  He became even ruder.  I finally hung up and called back.  Got another guy this time he claimed no one had called the number in question since last Setpember.  I explained that I just got a call this morning and that is way I was calling.  To make a long story short I asked for a mailing address so I could write a complaint.  He became very hostile and rude.  I hung up and did a little research.  John Kastner is President and CEO of Client Services, 351 Harry Truman Boulevard, St. Charles, MO 63301 is their address.  I called back and asked to speak to Mr. Kastner's Assistant and was connected to Mr. kastner's voice mail.  I left a message (who knows if he will call back), but I am following up with a certified letter to him.  I let you know  if I get a call back or a response to the letter.  I am not holding my breath because I am to young to die.

Reason replies to They called me too!
Due to the Privacy Act and the FDCPA, collectors can not divulge personal information without verifying the identity of the person they are calling.  It is for yours and the person they are seeking own privacy.  You verified it was not you and they moved on.  Very simple, easy and responsible.

Your interpretation of that section is close.  Once communication has been established then they can not contact a 3rd party.  IF no communication has been established or the lines are severed-debtor disconnects that number for example, then the collector then may contact third parties again.

Why wait a year to tell someone they had the wrong #?

Shannon probably has more than one bad account from more than one creditor.  As each one gets sent to collections the number he/she provided will be called with each different account as federal law prohibits co-mingling account information.  You got the bad end of the phone number assignments.
