Received a call at 9:08 AM.  Did not answer because they had called me several days before wanting to pitch me leads on graduate schools.  Such an awful scam.

Thanks, Anna!  I just got this call a few minutes ago.  I was surprised that it was a NYC # since I'm in Calif.  Searching for it lead me here.  I am also unemployed and signed up with Career Network.  They have a strange site, too and I was suspicious of it because they kept asking if I wanted to further my education (saying employers like it when you show you want to further your education) but the one time I selected the YES box, it took me to a site to search for schools near me and to fill out my contact info so someone could call me to discuss it.  Since I didn't want that, I closed out without following through (as there was no way to change your mind once you were on that page).  I've gotten several emails from them with jobs (and the emails make it sound like they are the actual hiring company but when you follow the link it's just the job description and you have to fill out the form again) but after I do what they want nothing further happens.  I think this place is a scam.  Thanks for doing all the leg work for us!!  Hope you find a great job, too!

I have received two automated phone calls to my cell phone with a message to call this number about a job to which I have supposedly submitted an application.  That's all the information they give me.  I did not do anything after receiving the first call because it reeked of scam, but after they called again, I decided to research the company before deciding what to do.  That is when I found evidence of Employment Select's unwanted phone calls to others and information on how to submit this complaint.  Even then, I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of reporting it, except that the person claiming to work there wrote such taunting messages to the previous complaintants that I couldn't resist putting my two cents' worth in.

It's 4/28/09, I got a cell phone call from this number today. Got all excited, but couldn't talk because I was going into my work place at the time. Got home today and called the number, yes it did go through but I hung up because I got suspicious. I'm sooooooo bummed to hear from you all that this is a scam, but happy to know that I will not get sucked up into a scam. OMG I know what job it was that they are calling me about and I so wanted it. I'm so sick and tired of applying online for jobs. When the hell is something going to break for us? Thanks everyone for your input, time to move on and forget about that job.

I also received the same call yesterday and the voicemail they left said that they had tried to reach me before.  What a scam...the automated message left a woman's name of Melissa.  Told me to call back at 646-520-0697 with a computer with internet access in front of me.  I'm happy that I found all of this information before I called them.

Missed 2 calls so far from 646-520-0697 and haven't picked up because I live in California and know that I havn't applied for any jobs in New York. Redialed the number and I get a recorded message for "Employment Select" verification services. I didn't wait for the message to continue. Why would a company try to verify my employment before I was even interviewed? What a scam!
Note to everyone: if a job post appears too good to be true it is. I fell for it. A receptionist position paying $55k? Not a chance. Also if they are trying to get more info out of you i.e. "interested in school?" or "want to further your education?" it is a marketing scam to try to get you to buy their services.

They call me every day and it's the same automated voice 'Melissa'. I just moved from New York to South Carolina and am trying to find a job. I wish that the websites i.e ( Monster and Career builder) would try to help out people using their sites by eliminating these bogus 'jobs'. It wastes my time when I have to listen to the voicemail and am on the phone and get called by these people. It makes me very discouraged when it's a scam.

2 seconds ago, my husband called asking if I applied for a position for him recently.  He's working but was looking for a part-time as well.  He gave me the # and I decided to google it instead of calling from work...this way I can see the name of the company at least.  Thank goodness I saw this warning instead.

I forwarded his resume for a part-time position on craigslist and they asked me to complete the application.  Upon doing so, a lot of pop ups for advertisements came up but I closed out of them...or so I thought.  I think they have his cell # and the house #...what have I done?  Thanks for posting this info.

I got the same call few mins ago. Good I was able to check with google and read all your comments. I think its time to report this to do not call because my cellphone is on "do not call". So this no. will stop calling people like us who are hunting for job.

Thanks for your comments. God Bless.

From the time I received this call I knew it was a haux. I picked up the call and there was a recording for me to call back, if an employer wants you they do not leave a call back number when you pick up the phone. Also, I did not applied for any employment that week they mentioned in the recording. Call the "Do Not Call List" and place your # there so telemarketers do not call you. The # is 888-382-1222, you have to call from the phone# you do  not want telemarketers to call you from, either your  or cell or home.

I received a call from a company calling itself Employment Select. They were a third party “screening agent” for an employer and had I submitted an application for a (fill in the blank) position.  Since I am unemployed I told them that I had responded to several such positions, could they tell me the content of the ad so I may recall the specific one.  The gentleman said he did not have that information in front of him.  He went on to say the interview would “take as long as 40 minuets, do you have that time available now.”  The interview began verifying my name address and telephone numbers. The next question asked if I had online internet access. (yes) The next question was my educational level.  I detailed my Bachelors degree and stated I was currently enrolled for by Masters degree.  At this point the gentleman said he had all the information he required and he would forward this information to the employer and I should expect a call for a second interview in two days to a week if the requirements were met.  The interview ended up taking only 5 minutes. I believe this is a solicitation for a web based educational group or a degree mill marketing firm.

I got called from the same number this morning. I think I know the culprit for who gave them my number. REMEMBER when EVER you apply to jobs online and are putting in your name and address and phone number make sure it's on a secure network (https://) if it's not, I probably wouldn't trust it. Whoever this was also gave my email address to several other people I never contacted.
