I receieved a call from this number with a recording saying the call was regarding an application I had filled out online. The recording said please hold and a verification specialist would be with me in a few minutes...I needed to be in front of a computer and the interviewing process would take 3-10 minutes and to please have that time availabl.  The the recording gave business hours and if I had reached the office after business hours to call back during business hours???? So then I knew something suspicious was going on....I didn't call them. However, I did stay on the line for a few minutes, realizing the recording played over and over.  I have filled out several applications online and I do remember at least one that asked for my cell phone provider. but I didn't give that info. I decided to google the phone number and found this information about the number.  Now I know just to end call instead of picking up.  THANKS for this info!!!!

I got a call a few minutes ago from the 646-520-0697. It was a recording asking me to wait for the next available operator. It was for verification for a job I applied for. Then it hung up. I did they same thing and looked up the number on the web and found this sight. I tried to call the number back several times and just got a busy signal.

These guys called me at 1:00 a.m.  That's one in the morning!  If you are going to scam someone, you might want to pick a better time!  Or maybe they were hoping that I would tell them everything they wanted if I was half awake!

Thank you for this information. Today is Tuesday Feb. 3,2009 at 2:00p.m EST. I just recieved this same phone call on my cell phone stating to be near my computer also. But for some reason we got disconected. I tried calling this number back but no answer so I googled there number and found this message...I again thank you for this information. I have been out of work for some time now and I just like so many need a job. I was concerned when I saw the area code was from Manhattan N.Y.I hope whoever else gets this phone call will see this information first.

I got the call today as well.  I had applied for a job on one of the job boards as described in the ripoff report posted in earlier comments.  I tend to stick with monster when job hunting, but I did apply for a job on yahoo and career builder recently.  Those would have to be the source of the problem.  Any posting asking you questions about your cell phone carrier ought to be suspicious.

I have also recieved one of these calls- happily, I did not pick up the phone. There are several "job" postings on craigs list, yahoo hot jobs, etc look okay at first, but then require you to "apply" by giving your phone number and service provider. Some will also ask for "references" and require the name and numbers of others. Please do not apply for any job that asks you for this type of information; these jobs do not exist, these are phishing sites.
If you have applied to a job like this, emails you receive may include an unsubscribe option. If you see this do unsubscribe, this has stopped my spam emails from this source. And always remember to never, ever give out any credit card numbers or social security numbers or other personal information. They job market is tough, and these types of job ads are preying on those of us who are trying to find employment.

Thank you so much for posting the info, as I too received a call from 646-520-0697, this morning on my cell phone.
I did not answer as if I don't now the number, I will not answer as they can leave a message, ehich this caller never did.
I googled the mumber and this is how I got to your posting.
I will contact my local Attorney General and tell them about this so they can investigate, as should everyone else contact their local Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau, as your research and post will help.
Once again, Thank you for the info and best of luck to you finding employment, as I am in the same boat.

It is hard enough trying to get a job let alone have some low life scam you.
I think some of these job boards ask for your cell carrier so that they can send you solisitation via text, which is costly unless you have that added feature, they are suppose to allow you to opt out not to receive info.
These companies also ask if you would like credit, education and insurance information as well, I select not intrested on all, as all I want is a job.

Same number here - I'm in North Carolina and have been job hunting online.  I answered the call and no one replied.  I'm learning to be very, very careful with online job searches, especially at craigslist - it's full of scams.

I appilied to a job offer I got to my email. I filled out the online form and it offerd to further my education by requesting online schooling programs. I filled their form out to NC online college. Their form had a small box the stated if would like to hear from other affiliated companies check here. I did and got a call today from this number. Both are scams. I now wonder how many more I'm going to get.

I had a call from this number 1-646-520-0697 snd the time they call me was [***] 4:00am in the morning. This [***] needs to STOP when you have small kids sleeping.I did care who there are DO NOT CALL MY HOUSE AT 4:00am in the [***] morning.

I just received a call on my cell phone from this number, too. I didn't answer the call. I just called the number back and got a recorded message that the number is out of service. Just another scam out there!
