its a 3rd party company called global tek i just looked the number up cuz  my friend juss texted me and toldme she in jail but thought it was an april fools prank untill i  recived a call and didnt answer so i looked the num up online and seen yall post and realize shes telling the truth and seen the post here and remeber wen she was in jail a couple yrs ago and the num looked familar so i guess she really locked up "damn" ill answer nx time i get a call.

btw 4 yall that do have people locked up or people that are locked up tryna get a hold of u if they put money on the call then wait till u hear there voice cuz thiers a delay for the call to connect and u have to wait also for instructions if they have no money stating that when they call with no money then u have to wait for automated instructions to instruct on how to add money/credits to the call then it will connect u to them.

Your correct several states use this system for inmate out going calls. They don't accept incoming the phone doesn't ring. They are a standard coin operated phone except inmates can only place collect or pre-paid calls. To accept call on a pre-paid recording says press 0 . I know who is calling me. He is in New Castle Indiana Prison.

If you accept a collect call from a inmate beware of the huge cost. Before, a family member had calling cards , I accepted a collect call. I paid a $2.50 connection fee plus it was a min. of $20.00 I had to pay using a credit card or debit card before we could talk. Then, my phone company charged me separate user fee for accepting a collect call from a third party, this was on my "landline" not cell. You can talk up to 20 minutes. I thought we could use 5 minutes at a time. I was wrong that was a flat fee for one call I think it's like .75€ per minute. If the inmate has a pre-paid calling card the connectin fee is only $1.50 per call and is .25€ per minute. He/she can use that same card more than once

From what I understand.. The jail/prison collects money from all calls and so does the company who operates/services the phone. This is why the collect calls cost a lot more verses pre-paid cards.

If your unsure who is calling you... You can search for people in jails a few ways. For example, in search box type the county name, state , sheriff..ill type an example so it's not so confusing.  Yahoo search box I could type... Hamilton county ohio sheriff department. Once this page opens up. There are several tabs on left side or top of page. Look for something titled "Inmate search" "inmate information"  the new page opens up. It will ask you to fill in inmate information. If your unsure who it is..try typing in a last name.. Then, for first name put only the 1st letter in the name. Example... Last name: Smith "inmates first name" J  ... For best or most return rate leave everything else blank. A new page opens up with photos ,name ,date of birth, race and location on person and all charges.if you find someone you know you can click on it and your find detail information about that person.

If your unsure who is calling and where they are calling from. You can search Inmates by state too. There are several websites for this www.jailbase.com    Www.mugshots.com for example. You can search these sites by name,age and state too they all have current mug shots and charges locations of inmate. If anything it's fun to view some mug shots...some can make you laugh , if nothing else :)

I know this is a lot of information and I hope Ive made it easy to understand. I hope everyone has a better understanding of how this number works and how to save some money. If anything hopefully you do look at mugshots for a laugh,

I posted earlier with a message with lots of information about this #. Please read it. It's NOT A SCAM! This is a phone booth located in several jails/prisons through out the United State. The company who operates and maintains this # main office is Huston,TX.. The inmates can only make out going calls. If you try and call it may ring and ring or it will ring and direct you to an pre recorded message with information for you to pre-pay for calls coming from this #.

Please look for my post that was posted like 15 minutes before my reply to you. Good Luck, hopefully your loved one or friend is home by now and you don't have to worry about it any longer.

Someone you know somehow must be in a jail and they are trying to call you. You can search the web for Global Tech they are based out of Huston,TX. It's not a SCAM.. This company is a 3rd party who places the old coin operated pay phones in jails/prisons. However, you can put "coins" into the phone. It only takes pre-paid cards from inside the correctional institute or inmates can place collect calls only.

You can accept collect call the it will redirect your call to 3rd party to pay for call by debit/credit cards. Please look for my post about 20 minutes ago. I included a lot of factual information about accepting calls and how to search for people... If you wait through pre recorded message when it say you have a collect from... That person says their name..then more pre recorded message

Got a call from this number at 6am, message said county jail. Did not know which county. Know global telelink is a legit company for inmates to use.

This is DEFINITELY a scam, FOR SOME PEOPLE. I DEFINITELY do not know anyone that would be calling me from jail/prison, ESPECIALLY from another state!!! A state that I've never been to and don't know anyone who lives there!.. this number will not stop calling me everyday and is definitely harrassing me. I tried to accept the call and it just hangs up, JUST LIKE someone said happened to them-they posted in this conversation back in march. I'll be calling my carrier to block this number from calling me.

Just received a call from this number late last night. I missed it and when I listened to the voicemail it was a garbled automated message from "an inmate at the Snohomish County Jail" in WA State. I hope it was a mistake since I don't know anyone who would be in jail or why they would be calling me. I wish there was a number we can call to find out!

I had a call this morning 5/7/13 at 5am.  I did not answer but when I called back I could not understand the name of the company however they had my telephone number right.  It said something about loading money on a credit card or checking my account.  I waited on hold for 5 minutes and then hung up.  Please look into this and stop the calls.

I have been getting these calls also from this number since 5/5/13 the recording leaves messages stating is from York County Prison. this is very annoying getting phone that you dn't know who is it. Plus i never answer to  unknown numbers. how can someone could get your new cell phone number..

Not a SCAM in the traditional sense, this is a collect call "service" for jails all over the US, Ohio, California, Idaho, Utah, etc. The inmate is routed through this number and you can talk to them for 15-20 minutes, I forget exactly. The problem is that the calls are not your normal cost for a collect call, they can cost you more than $20 with all the fees. If you know who is calling you and are willing to pay the fees, cool, otherwise don't answer. Maybe buy them a prepaid card they can use while they are in jail.

I don't know who thus is kalling me frim this number so kan  u please look into this further kause I don't have the money to pay tis bill thanks.

I am getting phone calls on my cell phone - same number but the message is all Spanish except for them saying what I think is "jose" and it's from the Rappahannock Regional jail - in VA.  I know no one in this system or any other - but have long suspected the cell phone # I was given has a tainted past =(  I put it on the reject list through my phone - but like others was frustrated because they can still leave a voicemail.  So went out and looked through my provider - and I am able to block this # from contacting my cell in any way for free.  I hope that works - because this number is relentless - they've called 5x in less than a day.

This would be a call from an inmate somewhere in the US. It's the automated service inmates use for phone calls.

If you call you get a recording that ask for the number your calling about. You can set up  PrePaid account to receive calls from a inmate in a jail facility.
