i just got a call from this number

3-12-2014 received a second call from this number.  It is a correctional facility and I do not know anyone there.  It is always a collect call.  no one says anything so you cannot ask any questions.  it is most annoying and I think someone in authority should put an end to this.

Can the person calling me from this # call me on a different #

This is not a scam. The number shows it's from Texas but it is a number used by correctional facilities all over the US. The message will tell you who is calling and from where. If you don't know the person, don't accept the call. Otherwise, it's someone you know that is in jail.

Just got a call from the same number, saying it was from the Douglas County Jail here in Omaha. I dont know anyone in jail, and I couldn't understand the name. I just hung up. Real or not, use caution!

I understand that these calls originate from prison but what is the purpose of calling me?  Are they expecting me to give them money?

I, too, recently recieved a call from this number: (713) 489-7846. I have a brother here in the Maryland prison system and he has told me that inmates are always trying to call numbers hoping to get a female on the other end and act like it is a mistake. Then they attempt to proceed to talk with the female in hopes of getting a pen pal and someone to use for money. So please be careful. The best thing to do when you get a call from an institution, if you do not know anyone in prison or in that area, DO NOT ACCEPT CHARGES. This can also be VERY costly. In more ways then one.

I just recieved a call from this number too, I didn't hear who it was calling, just that it was a collect call.  neither the automated voice or the male voice stating who it was calling was clear.  i did hear the part where the auto voice said 'please wait while i connect your call'......i hung up.  i don't know anyone in jail.  hope it was a wrong number

this phone number is from a phone system that allows inmates to phone loved one.  It is not a scam or threat of any knid

We have received numerous calls from this number (at least 4 so far today) and do not answer them.  Text messages follow shortly thereafter.  The calls have been coming for well over a year now.  They seem to run in cycles - frequent calls for several weeks, then silence for weeks, then the calls begin again.  Our carrier (AT&T) was asked to block this number but claims they cannot.  The calls never come at night, thank goodness.

If the person calling you from that number is an inmate, he'she will never see this message. Just saying.

I've been getting calls from this number for the last three days it purports to be from a prisoner in the Solano county jail though the # is from Texas. The twist is I get a 800# call once a day 'explaining' the collect call protocol for Solano county and trying to get me to look at payment options. This is obviously a scam and the number is known to law enforcement why aren't these people shut down?

I just got a call from this # 713-489-7846  three times, it says Franklin county corrections.  They hang up on me right after i press 0. Is it scam?

Just got one, actually got 3 of them all within 5 minutes.  First left a message that he was Marcus from DuPage County(Illinois) jail.  Next 2 were hang ups.  

person at 713-489-7846 has called 5 times today..8 times yesterday..unable to block this scammer...always leaves same message..you have a free call from Felicia...do not answer this call..you will be charged on phone bill...i have called Indiana attorney generals office to file complaint

Well, I just received a call from this number and it says that it was from an inmate from the Santa Clara County men's Jail.  Thank you everyone for posting this because I almost accepted it.  I know people in Houston, but I couldn't tell that it was a collect call since it came through on my Google number.  

I got a call today and it was my husband. anand he is in Bakersfield ,CA down town. jail
