- Alan JYep got me hook line and sinker. Appealled to my bloody ego. Trying to recover via my bank and USA Better Business Bureau. They Basta$$$$ will not reply to calls, FAXs, emails, contacts via their site. The two round the world for 2 airfares suckered me. Its oh so true. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

- scammedMine said my information was received and accepted, then asked for my information. I'd bet people must be falling for this scam, as it has been around for a while! Caller ID was blocked, and had MY telephone number at the top, as if I sent it to myself.

- ABANT| 1 replyReceived a call from these guys just a while ago. I played along.giving every bit of information the guy sought. Credentials, professional details, affiliations, interests what have you. During the call, I did pretend that I was unable to hear him clearly and he had to repeat his sales story (much to his chagrin). He grew desperate with every passing minute and every time he did I plodded on, reviving his enthusiasm. The bloke offered me everything- round the world tickets (I said fantastic); networking with 70,000 members (I said wow), membership where I could write articles for the Industry ( I said just what the doctor ordered). And then again I pretended not to follow what he was saying (By now he was talking of membership fees).
He then announces how I could update my resume with my latest achievement (my acceptance to stanford whos who) like I care a hoot. Asks me my address, I spell it out, repeat umpteen times and he gives me his address. Oh how credible. I am a WHOS WHO.
I offer you an annual membership or life..the choice is yours - he goes.
I opt for life...can I have your credit card details? we accept master.visa or amex. I said Master...and then I tell him 'Can you send me a email so I can ratify'. His reaction is pathetic- HE IS YELLING I am a Phd from Harvard and am sitting here at 10.30 in the night in New York trying to fill in your details and you give me everything but ur card details?
I say- unfortunately thats the only thing I cant give u...he rambles unmentionables..I keep quiet.
Phone goes dead..
A while later I have a voice mail and it goes...HEY YOU BLAH BLAH (thats supposed to my name) whatever ur name is- you place an order for lifetime membership and dont pay. I reject You..of all our members, there is no one like you. KEEP AWAY -hangs up.
Do these guys think they can fool everyone? Honestly, is there no way to curb these impostors?
I am glad I made it to his STANFORD WHOS WHO. I am now an official celebrity, but I am now rejoicing in the misery of this moron who spoke to me 35 minutes for nothing. My day's made.
Dont fall for anyone that solicits your credit card details over the phone.
Think on your feet..

- lyn replies to Yvonnehello, i have had a similar experience, except i authorised a payment of $199 and they took $1089NZ. i didnt realize until i noted the full amount a few days later, tried to cancel, etc. to no avail. Took it up with credit card company, but no joy. very frustrating and silly of me! i have seen 1 person got a refund. they should be paid gold to share how they managed that, regards

I received a call today from +1 (631) 383-6036 NY, USA
She wanted to ask me questions but I dismissed her quickly. - Cate replies to SheI think a friend got quite a sum of money ripped off out of her account. No trace. I think they sell the information to marketing companies. Cancel all your very personal information off linked in. Very New York accent. OMG how wonderful are you! You will qualify for our platinum to of the listing because you are so unbelievable.....That's the only truthful thing they said the unbelievable. What I can't figure out is how they get your phone number. Either friends mistakenly give it out thinking they are doing you a favour or there is collusion with Linked In. I sent a message to linked in about 6 days ago and still haven't had a reply. Avoid Stanford whos who at all costs. I alerted every bank I'm involved with. I don't know how to tell my friend as it is hard to say, guess what you've been stung. Thank goodness I wised up overnight couln't sleep rang my bank and put an alert and they will dispute the payment and I will have saved my money. I should always go with my gut. I felt uneasy during the call. Actually I said I was busy and to call another time. They said are you sure you will answer. I should have wised up then. Oh well. I learnt a lesson and didn't loose any money just my pride. Because I was uneasy I looked up on the internet under scams and there it was. "John Carter" had also promised to send me an email within 10 mins. NOTHING!.......BE CAREFUL EVERYONE PLEASE.
- Cate replies to KazfarI got a phone call out of the Blue. Was yours about Stanford WHos Who? If not be careful of this phone call as well.
- Cate replies to ABANTWell Done. They do get a little toey don't they? When they offered free tickets I said nothing is for free. He just kept on and on. I kept sending him off the track and he lost the place in the script he was reading. Geez I'm fantastic, and all as I said really was hello. I felt like I was going to be ruler of the world. What small business wants 60,000 people ringing and emailing you. Blahh.
It really is a vanity scam and they keep taking money out of your account forever apparently. When he first called I said I was busy and to call back later. He said will you promise to answer? I said why should I promise to answer my own phone? He said so many people don't. I said I am busy thank you goobye. He called back and that is when the above happened. Keep you account details to yourself. - Cate replies to BasharGood on you.
- PhewI'm in South Africa, and got a call from Stanford today. When I asked whether payment could not rather be made over a secure online connection Sarah Naely, the rep said absolutely not - their company has such a great reputation that it was impossible to refuse my credit card details on the phone. I told her I would not hand over anything without a thorough google search, and she told me because I had not paid, I would not have ANY access to their site. Then I found all of this.
It's a vanity press thing, and as such a rip-off. Linked In should be a lot more responsible about this!- Caller: Stanford Whose Who
- Phew replies to YvonneThat's the number she gave me - Sarah Naely! Everyone be cautious

- suysof replies to BebequeenHi,
Scam has definitely hit Asia...spoke to someone called Andrew Carr at Stanford..aggressive rude and a real pig of a guy. All up paid US$1500 for a letter and stupid plaque. Andrew the low life MF tried to get another US$995 from me...I complained and the price dropped to $395 and my monthly charges waived forever...I told him to shove off and I have alerted my CC to accept no more billings. If anyone wants to see the mail from this jerk, just let me know - Fred| 1 replyThe people claim to be a very prestigious company with a social site among business professionals.

This is a terrible scam working by phone and by the internet. They asked me for $200 dollars from my credit card to give me services and ended earning US$2,000 from my card. I already reported the situation.- Caller: Stanford Who's who
