- LoftieJust got this 'suspect' fax also...
I notice that the fax has no header information at all?? which is weird.
Surely telco companies would be able to trace back the point of origin of the fax?
I would like to know how to set up such a reply number where I can charge $20-$30 if someone reponds? How does that work - if there is no notification of the charge?
And who bills the amount? Like if I reply to this fax (which I won't), then who asks for the cash? My phone provider?
What STUNS me - is that the date is actually CORRECT.
So it is obviously a computer generated letter, that is faxed to every fax# that is listed in their database...
ANYWAY - in any case I won't be replying....- Caller: Who's Who

Looks very convincing doesn't it? - FelixJust got the fax. Thank you for all above information....
- Awethentic replies to Kerry WallaceAnother good idea, but this will only be cost-effective if the cost of the fax is not prohibitive (ie NOT $25 each time), is to tape 2 completely black pages together at the short (210mm) side, feed one end into your fax machine somehow (eg start a copy function, not fax), stop it half way, and then tape the other 2 ends together to form a loop (circle) to create an endless fax.
Then go to the fax function and dial the number and press start, and let it fax for as long as you want. If its a local call and possibly under 5 or 10 minutes, it will only cost you 25c, but at the other end, it may use up 100 sheets of paper, or more, depending on how long you run the loop fax!
Then see if we still get the fax from them saying we have been specially selected?
All the best, cheers and enjoy and happy faxing, or maybe we could call this fixing or foxing or fuxing. - Liz| 2 repliesThanks for the info about this scam everyone. We received the fax yesterday NSW South Coast from Jennifer Rivera (02)80786030. I too suspected it was dodgey as usually there is a website that you can check out for more datails on the business offering the service.

mine was listed as Office of public affairs with the reply fax 02 80786030
from my experience it seems this number is a internet style fax. Ie: it could end up anywhere in the world, it just goes thru some local proxy

They purport to want me to be in the 09/10 Edition of Who's Who Among Executives, Professionals, and Entrepreneurs in Australia. Interesting that, though they have "approved my candidacy", they didn't actually put my name on it. As if.
I called Crown Content, publishers of the real Who's Who in Australia (with an actual website, phone number, etc) and they verified it wasn't them.- Caller: Who's Who in Australia

- Tropicalone replies to Kim| 3 repliesThis also hit Cairns around 9 am this morning. Thanks to google I see it's a scam, new to Australia.
It's obviously a scam. The phone numbers should get turned off by the carrier.
All Telstra initially told me was it's not one of their numbers, and could not tell me which carrier controlled the number range.
I suggest anyone getting this scam fax call the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsmen, and they then referred me to a "special" telstra they use.
So far I have identified the following numbers, from my fax, and the internet.
