- annoyedWe moved over a year ago to TX but haven't updated our cell numbers, but they should have our correct address that reflects Texas versus NV. Just got a phone call at 10:47 for a loan that we have in deferment, seeing how BOTH of us are full time students. I'm happy none of my loans never came from Sallie Mae, but I regret that my husbands have. Each person that I have spoken to are rude. I have told them that the loans are in deferment, or that they are calling way too late, and they just hang up. I don't need to take down a number... we've already contacted Sallie Mae. They claim to be Sallie Mae but cannot tell you anything about your account. Makes me question if this is legit or some scam?

- LeslieWe have received five calls in about two weeks at our business number, at all times of the day and evening ... recorded message is along the lines of "Please hold for the next representative, it is important that we talk with you." This message is repeated at about 20 second intervals ad nauseum. At first I just hung up -- I do not participate in computer generated calls. Then I just left the phone off the hook and let them pay for the minutes. But that tied up my line. Tonight I waited over four minutes hoping to give someone a piece of my mind. Husband intervened with "letting someone else's computer run your life?" So Googled "MCC" as displayed on the caller ID, and finally this phone number.
Who are these people and how do I get them to stop sending automated calls to my business phone? - Lesliehttp://myfloridalegal.com/pages.nsf/main/7cd1 ... d6!OpenDocument
How to Protect Yourself: Debt Collections
Source: The FLORIDA Attorney General's Office
A "debt collector" is someone who regularly tries to collect debts owed to others. A debt collector may contact you if you are behind in your payments to a creditor on a personal, family or household debt, or if an error has been made in your account.
A debt collector may contact you in person, or by mail, email, telephone, telegram or fax. However, a collector may not communicate with you or your family with such frequency as can reasonably considered harassing. A debt collector may not contact you at work if the collector knows your employer does not disapprove, nor may a collector contact you at unreasonable times or places, such as before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., unless you agree.
A debt collector is required to send you a written notice within five days after you are first contacted, telling you the amount of money you owe. The notice must also specify the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money and what action you should take if you believe you do not owe the money.
You may stop a collector from contacting you by writing a letter to the agency telling them to stop. Once the agency receives your letter, they may not contact you again except to say there will be no further contact, or to notify you if the debt collector or the creditor intends to take some specific action.
If you do not believe you owe the debt, you may write to the collection agency within 30 days after you are first contacted, saying you don't owe the money. The agency may not contact you after that unless you are sent proof of the debt, such as a copy of the bill.
A debt collector may not harass or abuse anyone. For instance, a collector may not use threats of violence against the person, property or reputation; use obscene or profane language; advertise the debt; or repeatedly or continuously make telephone calls with the intent to harass or abuse the person at the called number. In addition, debt collectors are required to accurately disclose their identities to the person at the called number.
A debt collector may not use false statements, such as falsely implying that they are attorneys, that you have committed a crime, or that they operate or work for a credit bureau or misrepresenting the amount of your debt, the involvement of an attorney in collecting a debt, or indicating that papers sent to you are legal forms when they are not. Debt collectors may not tell you that you will be arrested if you do not pay; that they will seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so and has a legal right to do so; or that a lawsuit will be filed against you, when they have no legal right to file or do not intend to file such a suit.
Complaints about collections agencies may be filed either with the Attorney General's Office or with the Federal Trade Commission, Correspondence Branch, Washington, D.C. 20580. You also may file a lawsuit against the collection agency for violating state and/or federal law. If you prevail, you may be awarded your actual damages, as well as attorneys’ fees and costs. - Leslie1 hr. 6 minutes after previous call ... here they call again. 4 rings, then silence. - Tired of being harrassed. They repeatedly call demanding information and try to say I have defaulted when I have never even been late on payments. Sallie Mae has no records of contacting me and verify that my account is in great standing. These people are terrible, hateful scammers trying to trick innocent, trusting people out of their money. Never give them ANY information.

- Chris765 283 3176 is a big time scam
Sallie Mae doesn't have a 765 number
they have 888 numbers. They called me about my loans
and didn't even know if I was a borrower or co-signer.
I started talking to them about it and they hung up the phone.
SCAM all the way - never mind replies to Ron| 5 repliesThis is ridiculous!! These morons call so many times each day. Listen, if you tell them you don't have money at 10:00 am why would they call back at 11:30, 1:00, 2:45 and 8:15 asking for money? Oh yes, please, let me get my sack of money out that just appeared a few minutes ago. I don't have any other bills to pay and since I have so much money, I'm thinking I won't pay Sallie Mae. Whatever.
