Question: If you know to whom this phone number belongs, why did you come to a phone number look-up site?

A recorded voice tells me this is the US Department of Education, regarding student loans.  Didn't ask for anyone by name.  I hung up, as we have no student loans!

I don't answer unknown numbers. They left no message. Earlier posts here show this is a scam number. Do not give personal info to strangers. They called a private cell number that only two people know the number. I don't have any unpaid student loans. The post office will not call you; they send a paper notice.

What does the post office have to do with this number? What are they sending a paper notice regarding?

They called saying they were Great Lakes Education regarding a school loan and asked for my social security number.  Scam!!!

Great lakes is a student loan company. It ilegitimate. Someone must of had your number or someone number is similar or address was used before.

This number IS from Great Lakes, which IS a student Loan provider. I have my student loan through them. Apparently they are calling trying to track someone down who is delinquent on their loan, and your number is the one that they have as a reference or listed in their system as the person themself.
Problem is they call me constantly (recording) saying that my loan is past due, yet I am on auto pay, every month and have been for more than 2 years without a missed payment. I just shine it on and don't answer when they call. When I get around to it I will call them to straighten it out

It's a scam. Our family don't have any student loan.

college loan scam , they are stealing people SS # and your identity also. they are not legit!

This is a legit company. Great Lakes is a Student Loan company that a lot of colleges and universities use. Just thought I would let everyone know.

I didnt answer and they did not leave a message. However if it is Great Lakes they ARE legit. They are a student loan company (they handle my student loans anyway). The way they do business is kind of crazy though.  Why not leave a message?

If you co signed for student loan for someone, they may be calling you for payment.

Even if the number belongs to Great Lakes (and it does) hackers have a way of "stealing" phone numbers and pretending to be someone else. Great Lakes is not going to call and ask for personal information or say someone recommended them.
