Woman called me today about the cancer donation, I told her I was out of work and on disability myself due to illness and she would not let up, after explaining to her I barely make it week to week she insisted on giving me my payment options, finally I just told her "we are done" and hung up. Could not believe she insisted on me giving a donation when I have no income, [***].

9/3/10 3pm - rings 3 times and hangs up.  Caller ID:  Toll Free.  Does anyone answer unknown or toll free calls if you have caller ID?

Give but give to your local cancer society, not to these people.  They are not a legit organization.  Do your research before giving to ANYONE.

I got harassed by this number too.  There should definitely be a law against this.

I am happy you are all posting, I just paid to find out who was calling and hanging up and felt the need to figure it out!  Thanks for also getting mad about it.

The funniest thing...I had just got on this website to check this number out and who should call??  I asked them to remove this number from their list, we'll see.  They have called everyday for over a week, I have no answering machine so they couldn't leave a message but this is the second time they called today.

I got a call just today I have caller id but it just said incoming call when my phone rang. I wanted to answer it incase it was important. It was a female saying that she was getting donations for cancer research and would I like to help out? I said yes because my dad has cancer and I thought I could help out someone else that has cancer also. She asked me to give my credit card# to her over the phone to speed up my donation I told her no. She said she will send me a pledge card in the mail and if I could send my donation  with in 3 days of getting the card. She thanked me and that was it. I got the phone # from *69, looked it up and now I guess it's a scam!!!! Thats so wrong for people to do this!!!! They need to be stopped!!!!

I am disgusted. I have read the posts and realize that I, myself a cancer patient, was almost taken in by a scam. I started to think. First how did they get MY number. The telephone number is listed in my son's name. The only people who get my telelphone number are doctors and hospitals and those type of people. I state again I am disgusted. Here I am a cancer patient and instead of asking me how they could help this organization is trying to scam money out of me. The name of the organization is Cancer Fund of America and I see where the FAMILY are all CEO's and together get millions in salary. Just wait til the call again. Someone at this number called five times today.  I am suffering from spinal stenosis and it is hard for me to find the phone. This has to stop!

I am also receiving these calls, rings three times and hangs up.  I will not give to anything that calls!  I give to my local stuff and church.  PLEASE STOP THEM FROM CALLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Received call on 10/18/2010.  Woman said it was a thank you call from THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION.
Told her we don't give to phone solicitations and to take our number off their computer.  Looked up this
phone number in my records from last year and found we had received multiple calls from this number
after telling them to take us off their computer,  only then,  they called themselves THE CANCER FOUNDATION.

Recieved 2nd call today.  First call said  they were THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION and the second call said they were THE CANCE INSTITUTE.  Told them to get us off their computer or I will sue.  They claimed they removed our number from it.  Bet we get another call under another name.  So much for our government's NO CALL LIST>

On the idea of a "Do Not Disturb" feature, one thing I really like about the VOIP (internet-based) phone service I recently signed up for is that I can easily block callers like this on a number-by-number basis. All I have to do is click the block button in my call log. The feature doesn't work if the number doesn't appear on caller ID, but otherwise, it's great. Callers get a fast-busy signal, and my phone never rings. In fact, I blocked this number before I'd even hung up. :-)

Call received, ignored and blocked. Problem solved.

Even if the local cancer society were to call you and solicit you for funds, they still would keep back money to pay their expenses. Why not just find a person who has cancer and give them the cash directly? There has to be a way find people in need, donate to their cause, and not have most of the money "stolen" to pay a solicitor's expenses.
