Scam organization soliciting money from kind hearted folks. The money does not go to cancer research; it goes to pad the wallets of the organizations "family" employees. Check them out. I did and now also the FBI knows as well. It is called Interstate Commerce Fraud, Wire Fraud, Bank Fraud, and Money Laundering. The list goes on. You get a call from these scam artists, first tell them you will report them, never call back, and hang up. There are suckers born every day, don't be one of them.

While it may be annoying that this place is calling, according to the law, the Do Not Call Registry does NOT protect you from "charitable organizations" seeking donations (along with political calls which are already coming for the November election!).

Placing yourself on the Do Not Call Registry keeps your name off of telemarketer's lists, but not those working for a charitable organization.  It also does not protect you from calls from businesses you have a "relationship" with.  If you fill out a contest form, your name is sold to hundreds of places, all of which you now have a relationship with for 18 months.  Any business you give your phone number, email address, home address, or any information to (even just using your credit or debit card!) now has a relationship with you and can legally call you for up to 18 months.

This is where the law needs to change.  Good luck with that.  Too much special interest $$$ out there!

    No Scammer Charities
DO NOT GIVE them money!, this is a legal scam organization, they have among the one of the worst scores for charities in the country. Most of your money goes to expenses such as the CEO's and his son's salaries and expenses, NOT to the needy!

I have told them twice not to call anymore so I'm going to turn them in and hope something will be done.  This is NOT a legit company IMHO, when the CEO makes over $200,000 and his son makes close to that as VP.   Give to your local cancer society if you want to see your money go to the cancer patients.

Someone posted a while back to check with your phone company about the "Do Not Disturb" feature.  He said it costs him about $1 more a month and what it does is answers the phone and leaves instructions to Press 1 if you want to talk to someone...since these calls are computer generated, it doesn't recognize that and gets disconnected and you aren't bothered by the phone ringing....works for me.  I'm going to check into that and hope our company offers it.

This is a so-called charity for cancer but most of the money goes to pay the CEO and his son who is VP, along with those who call and harass us all the time.  I've told them twice now not to call and now we are receiving calls again.  Here is a link to give everyone an idea of what they can do to put a stop to this nonsense.  Everyone contact the FCC and complain so they get the message and hopefully will be fined.

They called the woman was trying to supress her laughter and she was looking for donations for cancer research.  I asked her what was so funny about cancer.  She replied: "oh, nothing.  Thank you anyway" ...  before she hung up I could still hear her in the background saying "Dammit Carla, Stop it.  This guy heard me laughing"  Then the phone went dead...

Despite written BBB Wise Giving Alliance requests in the past year, this organization either has not responded to Alliance requests for information or has declined to be evaluated in relation to the Alliance’s Standards for Charity Accountability. Without the requested information, the Alliance cannot determine if this charity adheres to the Standards for Charity Accountability. A charity's willing disclosure of information beyond that typically included in its financial statements and government filings is, in the Alliance's view, an expression of openness that strengthens public trust in the charitable sector.

The BBB Wise Giving Alliance reports on national charities and determines if they meet 20 voluntary standards on matters such as charity finances, appeals, and governance. The Alliance does not evaluate the worthiness of the charitable program.

The pledge card is a solicitation for funds...once you pledge, they will bug you to get the money.

This agency is, IMHO, a farce and I would not give to them again.  I did once and then learned the CEO makes over $200,000 a year and the VP, which just happens to be the CEOs son, makes $180,000 a year.  Just like United Way, you pay them and they keep most of the money with a mere pittance going to a charity, whether you pick the charity or not, they don't get all the money.

Be wise and give to your local cancer society or to a local hospice so you know the money will be used more wisely and not put in the pocket of greedy people.

BTW, I told this agency the end of last year to remove our name from their call list.  Said they would.  Then we started getting calls again about 3 months ago so after I checked the number again and saw who it was, told them again.  The woman said, "Well, you gave last year".  I said, "Yes, my mistake, now I give only at church so remove our number".  She said she would.   Well, guess who started calling us again the beginning of August?  I finally answered the phone and just as the woman started her little speech, I told her that I had asked them twice already to remove our number so why was she calling?  She started out with she didn't know..blah blah...so I told her I would file a complaint if they ever called again, that I would not tolerate their disrespect and would make a police report so it is on file that they are harassing us after they were told 3 times to remove our number.   She was hot and said something and HUNG UP ON ME !!!

Now I ask you, why would you want to give to people like this?  I am a Christian and do not cuss so it isn't like I cussed her out but I did firmly tell her to get our number out of their system and not to give me this hoopla that the calls are computer generated !!  They don't deserve money from anyone with the bad attitudes they have.   Whatever happened to common courtesy and being polite no matter if you like what the customer is saying or not?  People are so rude and so dumb anymore.

Give but give to your local cancer society, not to these people.  Read my post under BlueTosh where I explained a bit of what I went through recently.  I made the mistake of thinking they were legitimate and gave once but they will never get another dime from me and neither will United Way who is about as crooked as they come and keep most of the money...why not give directly to whoever we want to actually have the money and forget this third party crap that steals most of the money to pay their expenses?  Anyway, JMHO

This number always comes up as Toll-Free Call on my Caller ID. If it is actually an legitimate company then they should have the balls to put their real name on the Caller ID. If it says Toll-Free or Privacy Manager, then I just don't waste my time answering.

Just got a call from this number and I don't think it's the first.  I simply ignore all calls where I don't recognize the number; if it's a caller who really needs to speak to me, they will leave a message.  Since it's gotten to the point where we receive anywhere from 1-5 calls a day from unknown numbers, I simply let the phone ring -- they never leave a message.  I think the Do Not Call List is totally ineffective in stopping these calls.  Almost anyone can set up a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, so I'm still skeptical even if they say they're a charity.  Bottom line:  If I don't recognize the number, I don't answer the call.  I only respond to charitable requests that I receive in the mail and I always check the internet to get their tax ID number before sending a donation.

I got a call from "Toll Free Call" on 8/6; no message.  Some GOOD NEWS!  Thanks to all who provided whatever clues  --  all these loose associations with a variety of non-profits.  Read full article here: <www.charitywatch.org/articles/Fundraisers_Banned.html> -- what a story of graft.  From the August 2010 Charity Rating Guide & Watchdog Report:
"Donors who have been misled or harassed by charity telemarketers know how insidious some telephone fundraisers can be. In a signal that the regulators know it, too, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has ordered the operators of the telemarketing company Civic Development Group (CDG) to pay $18.8 million, the largest penalty ever handed down in a consumer protection case."

"CDG fundraised for numerous local firefighter, police and veterans charities. They also had contracts with several groups that received F ratings from AIP, including Cancer Fund of America, Children's Charity Fund/A Child's Wish Foundation, Disabled Veterans Association, Firefighters Charitable Foundation/Fire Victims, and the Childhood Leukemia Foundation. The Virginia Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the AIP F rated charity, Paralyzed Veterans Association, was also a client of CDG."

I highly recommend reading the articles regarding any cancer, veteran etc. group you are considering for donations.  Some real eye openers on some national organizations.
