This number is  most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale  institutions.

Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.

Of the over 456  posts in this thread,  I count 180 or so, or about  40% as shill postings.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real,   is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.

There is a similar pattern to other fake calls.  They all  claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions.  All with the same type of   postings.

The shill postings often use the same turns of phrase.  The same type of verbiage telling  everyone how "legit" the calls are.

Personally I think the group or groups  posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both.

Never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you.  If you have a problem with a CC or debit card transaction, call the number on the back of the card or the number on your monthly card statement.
Call history on 800notes for this type of scam.

This is Bank of America fraud department. The message was to go to their website or call back. I accessed my account through the app I normally use and had to verify some of my purchases. If you dont trust the #, call the one on your card. If they are calling you, it's most likly because you're card may have been compromised.

Got a call from number above. Called it and would not give them enough information for them to help me. They Sounded legit! So I called number on back of credit card. There was Fraudulent Activity on my card. B of A  told me the number 800-427-2449 is for real. Glad I called. I did however and recommend always calling the number given on the back of your credit card if your giving out Any information.

It is valid.  Just got a call from them right after i attempted a rather large airbnb transaction. Ignored it called number on back of card and they confirmed it is in fact bank of america fraud protection.  But hey trust nobody call number on card if ir happens to you. It is pain free. Or log in online from your phone and call from the app. It is faster as they pull your info into the call.

BofA Fraud Protection Dept. Calling because I opened a cash rewards Visa acct. They automatically place a fraud hold on all new accounts. I found this out the hard way because I opened a MasterCard acct with them earlier this year, went to use it the first & it was declined 4 times in a row. Called the bank & was told they wanted to make sure it was really me who opened the account. Said yes & supposedly hold was removed...nope. called back & was told I had to take the card & my ID into a bank, but they couldn't tell me why. I'm disabled & going into a bank is NOT easy, but I went only to be told they don't handle credit card issued in the bank. Finally yelled loud enough to get branch manager to call fraud services & get my card working.
NOW...they have placed a fraud hold on a Visa Card I just got in the mail & have not even activated yet. Bottom line...stay away from cards issued by Bank of America unless you don't mind having your charges repeatedly declined, wasting a lot of time on hold with the fraud department or making useless trips into a branch. I'm SORRY I responded to either if their preapproved card invitations. More trouble than theyre worth. Stick to Chase or Capital One. Sorry to vent, lol.

800-427-2449  This IS the fraud protection division of Bank of America.  They watch buying habits, etc.  I am recently widowed,
over age 75 and I appreciate they are looking out for me.  There is NO charge for this if you are a customer.  People on here who
think there is a boogie man behind every door shouldn't be so hasty to "slam".  If you checked it out and found out easily who it was,
why are you STILL thinking it is a rip off.  This for the lady two entries below this one.  It's good to be cautious but not everything is
    a "steal for profit" exercise.

Just talked with BofA about a call I received from this number. The person I talked with (I called the number on the back of my card to be safe) confirmed that 800-427-2449 is a BofA number that belongs to their fraud department. I made a purchase about an hour before that raised a flag and prompted the call. Still, it's a good idea to call back on a number you know if you have any doubts.

This number is legit. To be sure, I called another known number for BoA and they informed me that my card had been compromised and was being used in the UK. Also, the message left by the 800-427-2449 caller *did* include a reference number that BoA confirmed. The lesson here is IT IS NOT A SCAM. If you are cautious(you should be) like I am, then call BoA directlly, but DO NOT IGNORE the message and let the charges roll up or have BoA cancel your card when you might need to use it.
