Today 9/5/08 at 9:35 am I received a call from 636-947-2321 Caller ID Missouri.

The caller Mike Moon, stated he called me because my street number is 5 Cleveland Ave. and that he was trying to contact a person whoes name he gave that lived at 7 Cleveland Ave. He said that her phone number was disconnected and that he was trying to contact her because of a busness transaction he had with her. I told hime I had no idea who lived in the rented house next to me.

He then asked if I would leave a note with his contact information in her mail box. The number he gave me for his contact is 800-521-3236.

I will give this information to my neighbor and a copy of my email to you.

If they start bothering me I will email you and report it.

    Sincerely,

Today 9/06/08 my neighbor contacted my husband in refrence to a call she had recieved yesterday at 9:35 am. The number was listed as 636-947-2321 Caller Id - Missouri. Mr Mike Moon said he was calling her because he was trying to contact the person "myself" who lives next door in regards to a business transaction he had with me. I'ts funny because a telephone call came in at my place of employment the same day. My coworker took the call due to the fact that I was on a break. The man who called said he would call back and the coward never did, instead he called my neighbor who has nothing to do with this at all. You obviously have my address so send me letters call me back at work, keep these inocent people out of it. You can't break me or anyone else this is life deal with it. Stop and think about it, "Who pays your salary"? If it wasn't for these people who you are harrasing you would have no job, so get over your bad self." For all those who have had enough check this out!

Fair Debt Collection Practices Act Protects Consumers

Have you ever received a letter from a collection agency? While most people pay their debts on time, some medical labs seem very quick to send your bill to collections while you are waiting for the HMO to pay it. Or perhaps you have been laid off in the current recession. Or perhaps you are a victim of theft of identity, and are being dunned for a bill you do not owe.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is a federal law which limits what debt collectors may do. When you get the first dunning letter, the collector must tell you that it is from a debt collector, that any information will be used to collect a debt, and that you have the right to "validate" the debt, i.e, make a written demand for more proof that you owe the debt and the amount the collector claims. Consumers have the right to tell the collector to "cease communication." The FDCPA applies to persons who regularly collect the debts of consumers, or who buy such debts after default. There are many companies which buy consumer debt these days.

The FDCPA prohibits debt collectors from contacting or calling third parties. Congress wished to protect a consumer's right to privacy. The collector in general may not call your relatives, employer, friends and neighbors and may never tell them about your debt. The Act prohibits repetitive phone calls.

The Federal Trade Commission is the federal enforcer of the Act. For violations of the FDCPA, a consumer may sue for a $1,000 award, plus actual damages, plus an attorney fee.

Which attorneys do such suits? You might try the National Association of Consumer Advocates, www.naca.net, or your local bar association.

It seems the people that owe money get so defensive! Collectors are just doing there jobs. If you are unable to pay your bills (lines of credit) maybe you should look at yourself when calling names after all you are the one that took money from a bank and are not paying it back. Its unreal that they would like there money back!!!

Sorry not a scam, but your pastor may have been scammed.

Collectors can not give out account information with out verifying the identity of the person on the other end of the phone.  Therefore that person has to acknowledge their address, last four of their social security #, or similar information.  It is part of the Privacy Act legislation passed to curb ID theft.

If our pastor does not have a delinquent account, possibly someone has stolen their ID, but you will never know until a summons appears at her house.

The Privacy Act makes it illegal to give personal information to anyone without first verifying that person identity.  This ensures your information is not disclosed to anyone but you.

The "do not call list" is for telemarketers.  These people are calling on a legitimate business matter.  They are not allowed to disclose the exact nature do to confidentiality.  They are only looking for a particular person and do not care about your information unless you can lead them to that person.

I got a voice mail at work yesterday from a "Lisa Miller" x4343 to please call her.  Thinking it was one of our contractors I immediately called back.  After I identified myself; she asked me to confirm (quite rudely) the last 4 digits of my ss#.  I refused and asked what company she was calling from and what was the nature of the call.  She said she was from CSI and I needed to confirm the last 4 digits of my ss#, yada, yada.  I refused (it wasn't mine) and asked her not to call again. "Lisa" then launched into a tirade and wanted to know why I wouldn't, and did I know "Ben" (same last name as mine) from Wareham...No, I don't and hung up. I think "Lisa Miller's" voice mail needs to be flooded...Nasty company - I looked them up.
