Had a call on my answering service to call this number... not who they were calling for or what they were calling about, just to call the number. I called to find out who they were but when I wouldn't provide my number to them they hung up. I called again and was told that until I gave them my number that they would continue calling me... so I told them I would continue calling them also.

I've now called about 20 times, told them I just had a message to call this number and said have a nice day, then hung up. Strangely it makes me somewhat happy to get revenge on the people who expect me to give all my information to them without any explination of who they are or what they want.

It is a collection agency, you owe them money or someone who had your # before owes them money. They are just doing their job. Not all collection agencys are bad, if you tell them what # they called they can tell you who they are looking for. It is very rude to act malicious towards these people when they are just doing there job. They dont want ALL your info just what # they called. Collection agency's have gotten a bad name, but where would society be with out somebody collecting outstanding bills? Prices of services would skyrocket. try to think about that before you judge

These people have been calling my CELL phone for over a year! I don't know why they're calling, they will not identify the alleged debt when I do answer the phone. I think its just to harass me.

    tired of it
computer generated messages left on voice mail - don't have any credit cards - I believe this is a computer system calling everyone to gather information - it sucks - I decided to change my phone service – will get a new unlisted/private and continue to use this old – bad - number for business without the cell phone - i can check the old number voicemail with the new one – cell phone firewall

    Good Job,
I am considering taking this company to court.
They have my phone number in their computer and they keep calling me at 3 am.
They are rude, unprofessional and most likely incompetent as well.

    Sir,
I have to completely disagree with you.
American Agency does not follow professional business practice.
AA has my phone number in their database as belonging to someone else whom I have never heard of before.  AA's automated system is calling my home telephone at 3 AM daily!  Is this professional?  Can there be any excuse for such activity?
Do your homework first.  I hate that our country has become so "take it to court - suit happy" but I am seriously considering taking this company to court for damages to get them to wake up.
    Very respectfully,
    Michael

Got a call with "unknown" name showing on the CallerID but displaying only the 4 #s 11119 on the line under. Message followed from an older woman's voice type
asking Mr."x" to call 800-521-4956, ext 5081 asap, urgent. Then googled the # and it obviously looks like a mistake if not a scam for I have had my tel# for 4 years without such calls or any marketing calls, at all! It just started randomly since the last 2-3 weeks, once a week.

American Agencies is acting as a Debt Collection Agency. Pursuant to Title 15 U.S.C.A. Sec. 1692 et. seq..  They are required to send a written notice of a debt, to the debtor, and the debtor has the opportunity in writing, to respond.  Here, they have not done this and we know American Agencies do not have any authenticated and valid contract warranting a debt is owed to a Client of theirs, and by us. They are not only wrong in making those nuisance calls at all times of the day, including on Holidays, they are breaking the law! As a victim of ID Theft.  Our family prefer not to discuss any Personal and Private Information over
    the telephone and to strangers!

I am receiving calls from this company (2-3) times each day.  This to include weekends and holidays!  The information from a John Whitaker is correct with regard to the Fair Debt Collection Laws.  When this company was called back by me, they would rudely hang up! They are dialing my number, in an apparent attempt to find another person!  It is also my belief, they are trying to establish a debt to this person!  So the question in my mind, "what is this company actually trying to do"?  I will report American Agencies to the Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Attorney General, and Local Authorities for Harassment Calling. If their Client can be identified, I will surely file a U.S. District Court action in obtaining a Federal Injunction.  Perhaps then, they will comply with the law and respect our U.S. Constitution on Peoples Rights?

You're right.  Some people have nothing better to do than to harass YOU.  Shut up and pay your bills.  You won't get "harassing" phone calls afterwards, I promise!

Crooks like you will harass anybody for money, doesn't matter whether you owe it or not. Yes, there are a few relatively honest collection agencies out there, but their "employees" NEVER have to come here to post these "pay your bills and we won't harass you" LIES.

    Ex-Debt Collector replies to Paralegal - 30JUL09

You aren't going to do any of the things you threaten.  In fact, all you are going to do is complain about this until someone tells you to shut your mouth.  If I may make a suggestion, please shut your mouth!

If you bothered to answer one of these calls, identify yourself and determine whether or not you are the person who owes the debt that this company is legitimately trying to recover, you would know if it is a call to the correct number or not.  I would bet my life savings that you haven't answered one of these calls because you are a deadbeat who owes someone or some company money.

The fact that your handle is "Paralegal - 30JUL09" and your lengthy rambling about all of the entities and courts that you intend to file complaints and/or actions and suits with tells me two things: (1) you have very little legal knowledge about the practices allowed by debt collectors or the appropriate jurisdictions and regulatory bodies that govern the debt collection industry, and (2) you possibly have some previous military experience.  The latter isn't nearly as scary as your lack of knowledge.

If you are not the person who owes the debt that the collection agency is trying to recover, get the name, address and telephone number of the debt collector.  Write a letter to that collection agency identifying who you are, what your phone number is and a specific, non-threatening request that they stop calling you immediately.  If they continue to call you, hire an attorney.  Otherwise, you will find yourself as the one in legal hot water for making such ridiculous threats.

Your Mama replies to Ex-Debt Collector
Obviously as an Ex-debt collector you are a dumbass if you think all debt collectors follow the law because a lot of them don't whether you want to believe it or not.  And most of the time the debt collection company won't give you the name of the caller or their address if you are the wrong person, they just say they will remove you from their calling lists and it will take up to 30days for it to be gone and in two months they are back to calling you again.  So blow it out your [***] [***].

    Here's how to get payback
Don't waste your time posting here...
Contact your local State Attorney's General Office and file a complaint.
Additionally, file a complaint with the FTC.
It takes them 10 times a long to deal with your complaint as it takes them to handle your phone call (they just hang up!)
If we all send just one complaint to each, the regulators will crack down on these scumbags!
