- KI paid my money 4 years ago that I owed my hospital. Today I just received a call from this number again and they said I didn’t paid that money. [***] weird.
- CamJust received a call from this number. Representative Ashanti was very rude. She wanted me to verify my identity over the phone. When I refused and ask what this was in reference to she replied very rudely "I just told you a business matter". I then said well I am not verifying my information. If its for me send a letter correspondence to the address you want me to verify and I hung up. I will not verify my information over the phone for no one. So many people are people being scammed because these hackers are pinging into other peoples phone numbers.

- MakeThemProveYourDebt!NATIONAL RECOVERY AGENCY advertises this as their number for debtors to contact them. The state they are a "nationwide provider of accounts receivable management" aka DEBT COLLECTORS! {updated 04-01-2018}
If you choose to answer the phone you will need to verify your NAME in order for them to speak with you. DO NOT ADMIT TO ANY DEBT or give them ANY further information, including address, email, etc. Simply ask the caller for his/her name, the collection company they work for and the name of the creditor they claim to represent. Make written note of this information. THEN ASK if they are licensed to practice in your state & write down their answer & the date and time you spoke. Tell the caller that if they have a valid contract to collect on behalf of any creditor that claims you are indebted to them, that they can contact you to VALIDATE that debt by CERTIFIED MAIL.
** They already have your address if it is a valid debt... Politely remind them of that if they ask you to validate your address and continue to ANSWER NO FURTHER QUESTIONS.
Instruct them to include a copy of their CONTRACT with the ORIGINAL DEBTOR and a FULL ACCOUNTING OF THE DEBT they claim is owed. Tell them to include a copy of any and all receipts, bills, statements and payment history provided to them FROM THE ORIGINAL CREDITOR they claim to represent. Wish them a nice day and hang up the phone. Go about your day.
If they have an ENFORCEABLE debt they must contact you as you requested. If they "bought your debt" as part of a multi-million dollar package, they will not have the proof required to VALIDATE your debt. In this case THEY purchased the receivable debt; THEY own it now and can only collect from you if you admit to owing the debt. Remember that YOUR liability is with the ORIGINAL CREDITOR that extended you credit, NOT with a collection agency that gambled that they could get you to pay them and BOUGHT your unsecured debt for pennies on the dollar.... (By the way, the Original Creditor no longer owns the receivable and cannot pursue you or receive money from you if the debt collector BOUGHT your debt.)

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question. As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes. The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question. Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else. So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you. Let the FTC sort it out.
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand.- Caller: informational post

- JTI just get either two or three calls in a row, once a day, always from a different number. But when I come to this website to check on & report the number, it appears as though each number is connected to the same company. I really do appreciate some of the things that other people have posted up here up to several years ago that do view as the person being harassed, some Firepower to get these crazy jerks to think that you know a little bit of something that could possibly lead the authorities to them, which will bring them down and that is the very last that they want to happen... So hopefully it's after giving this kind of information to these people, they will finally, finally stop.

- kim replies to MICHAYou must work for them!
- Ser Lee replies to MICHAWow, outstanding logic. Most of them have bought the account for pennies on the dollar and are trying to see if they can collect a lot more than they paid for the account.
- JessicaThese people have called me multiple times today. The last time they called, I answered and it was an actual person. I said “Hello” and the lady asked for someone and I said “Can you please stop calling me, you guys have called me about 6 times today.” The lady said “we haven’t called you six times today” and hung up. Very rude, very unprofessional
- Call type: Debt collector
- concernedThey were calling today about an issue with my credit. OMG, I missed the call and they were in the "leave a message" area as the caller said that she wanted to talk to me. She missed the notification that I was unavailable... Noisy like a big call center. My credit is good. And I have had the number for years. Sigh The number shows up as 1-805-6377456. But the voice mail told me the "header info" was the 800-521-4956 number

- STACYRude man advised me the call was being recorded, asked for me, then proceeded to confirm my address- but-never stated who is calling for-or who he represented. When i tried to ask i was hung up on.

- Tom replies to MICHAI understand they are only doing a job but in this day and age in scams and people being taken advantage of would you give a total STRANGER ANY INFORMATION of yours? If you said yes I guess you have that credit lock. Come on people are just trying to protect themselves and to be honest they are required to identify themselves as well as who they bought the debt from.

- Lola replies to US Army ColonelThank you for your message. They have my number, too. I keep being optimistic about changes I hear about on the government level, and thank goodness for 60 minutes making a story about this B.S. that we all have to put up with. On a limited budget I try to keep ALL expenses down, and now have that Consumer Cellular, and my monthly charges are at or below @25.00, but calls from places like this really make me angry as they steal my phone money... But let's all carry on and fight the [***] who live on the spoils of stealing from us over the phone lines.
