    I received a call today 11/28/2011 at work from "Jill Thompson" at Nat Credit Adjusters - 1-800-542-1048 ext 1149.  I explained to her that I was at work and that I would need to call her back from my cell phone as the calls at my desk are recorded.  She continued to tell me that if I did not make payment arrangements on the 2 debts she was calling on she would refer my case to an attorney.  I advised her once again that I could not discuss this at work and she continued to discuss my personal business.  She said I needed to pay 30% of the debt today to avoid it going to an attorney.  She said if I did not pay the money she would call my company to verify employment, speak with my supervisor, etc. Now, if she called me at work, wouldn't that verify my employment and if she speaks with my supervisor and causes me to lose my job, does she think she will get paid any faster?  I do owe the money, but cannot pay it at this time.  I can't even afford the 30% "down" to keep this "on her desk" instead of going to an attorney.  I am willing to make arrangements, but refuse to give them my account information. I will negotiate the amount they claim I owe as it seems extremely high.  Does anyone have any advise for me?  I am drowning in debt due to an illness and loss of work earlier in the year.  I can't pay my house payment, let alone this debt to a collection agency.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Some woman name Kimberly Reed called my job however I never picked up the phone
    becauseI did not recognize the number.  She then called my cell phnoe and left a message
    saying she was from National Credit Adjusters and left some reference number, along with her number 1-800-542-1048 ext 1258.  I have not returned the call and will not return the call, I have no interest in talking to anyone about somethng that doesn't concern me and has absolutely nothing to do with me. Life is short and I don't intend to waste it on invaluable chatter!   It appears these folks are not legitimate collectors, if they were they would know that the methods they are using are illegal; no written documentation, asking for SS# over the phone, harrasing you at your place of employment, threats, etc.  As a citizen of the US, you are protected under the Fair Debt Collecton Act, as well as your local FBI and  Attorney General's office.  I'm sure if you gave them the number to one of these or filed a complaint you would stop getting calls from them.

    Please note that this person/organization keeps calling and harrassing me at my workplace, home and other relatives homes. I have repeadtly asked that they stop calling as they will not divulge any information as to why they are calling-they want me to supply them with all types of information which i do not feel comfortable in doing since i have no idea who they are why they are calling-Please advise next steps to take-this has been going on for several months now.

    the problem is is that u can call more than once a day you people do niot know the fdcpa.   that is for certain states..after that it is up to the discretion of the agency because harrassment is not defined in the fdcpa..also people need to learn when the fdcpa applies.not saying it dosent here but the fdcpa pretains to 3rd party collection..anything more is a civil matter and you must take it to court

    Contact you state attorney general or the better business bureau or the FBI.. they have numerous complaints filed against them through each one of these

    You are exactly right about doing a search online and other companies getting your information!  I did that (application) last year with what I thought was a reputable (highly popular/advertised/well known company).  As it turns out, the application was NOT with that company but with a database of NUMEROUS others that offered to "Approve" your loan for various amounts...ALL of WHICH I DECLINED and NEVER went through with.  However, within 2 weeks, I began getting harrassing phone calls both at work & on my cell from this so called collector as well as another that claiming to be from a law firm with a law suit against me for not paying for the loans (the ones I NEVER TOOK IN THE 1st PLACE!!!)  Both "Collectors" were RUDE and THREATENING from the moment I answered the phone and went so far as telling me that if I did not have my lawyer call them and pay what they were demanding by the end of the day (yet they would NOT tell me what was in the lawsuit or how much only that I better be prepared to pay thousands)- and good luck to me and what ever may be about to happen to my family as I have been warned you "fuc#%ng bit#%".    They would call every 3-5 minutes and hang up.  Yes, I made a FTC complaint...NOTHING happened...that is a JOKE!!!!  However, I got REVENGE!  I bought a whistle and every morning on my way to work & at lunch and on my way home, I would dial *67 (to block my # from showing) then the phone # and as soon as they would answer, I would blow the whistle as hard & loud as possible (window rolled down of course) and then exclaim "What now @$$hole?!!!  After a about a week, the calls FINALLY STOPPED...well, that is until just a few minutes ago...I just got one, although same number, a different name this time...looks like I will have to pull out my whistle again!

    I normally don't take calls I don't recognize on my cell but I s aw 973-735-9294 come up and since I didn't recognize it, I let it go straight to voice mail. Some woman left a message that it was very important that I call her back at 800-542-1048. I've been through this before. It's all a scam. These people some how got a hold of some of your information and are trying to get money from you. Don't give them any personal info like your social security number or bank account number. They are scam artists. Don't fall for it!

    Thanks for your post.  They have just started calling me the last few weeks.  The person who called me is very nice. Maybe because right at the beginning of the conversation I tell them I need to tell them that I am recording this conversation.  I keep a small recorder on my desk to record calls like this.  The want to email or fax me information, but I say no.  I tell them to send it in the mail.  The told me they sent it in the mail on April 5th, but guess what nothing has come in the mail.  This is total harrassment.  The tell me I owe Elastic company money from 2120.  That loan has been paid for a long time.  I owe them nothing.  It will be interesting to see if I ever get anything in the mail. If I do it will be interesting to see if it is real information.  I suspect not.  Once thanks for the post.  I think your information is very accurate.

    I think you work for them.  NCA has a bad reputation for illegal collection practices......violating the FDCPA.

    Just because Texas is a "debtor friendly" state doesnt mean that they can not get a garnishment against you.  If they pursue it enough and take it too court and have court orders then they WILL garnish wages regardless of what state you are in.  Dont let it fool you.

    Got a call at my fathers house this morn from 312-470-6181 and answered it. A woman named Nikki said it was regarding an urgent legal matter and it was vital that he call back at this #.  Luckily, I happened to be sitting at the computer. Told her that he is elderly and ill and he has a lawyer handling his affairs and I would be happy to give her his name, number etc. CLICK!

    They need to get the right story before they come at people on line lenders are not honest they sneak and deposit money into your account after you tell them no i don't want the loan you got to submit to get info they will call but once they get your info you is in trouble someone call me from this number i tried so hard to explain to him but he wasn't interested in nothing i had to say he call my work just putting my business out there he call my cell my house phone finally i call him J.King ext 1393 if he would have talked to me right i would have done the same but he hung up before i could finish trying to explain what was done to me i told him i had spoke with the lender before she deposited 200.00 in my accout he told me they don't talk to people on the phone a lie he just took up for them he didn't seen to be a professional person.

    I told the man that called i was under chapter 13 bankrupt why he was harassing me but he stated it didn't matter he even called my work place and upsetted the secretary and plant manager he went after them for nothing they don' have anything to do with this now my business is all over the work place something needs to be done about these people they are rude but i have contacted my bankrupt lawyer to let him know i'm being harass and i'm going to report them to the Better Business Bureau.
