In my most sarcastic voice, RIGHT. These people have been nothing but rude and insulting to me, one even demanded my bank account numbers. I do not have a Macy's account and I sure as hell am not going to give it out to anyone who calls me. It took a dozen or so calls from them to get them to admit they were in India. Today alone they have called 9 times. How many people in India are named Eric, Tina or Mr Mendez?

these are scammers using cheap labor from india and elsewhere to try to extract info from thousands of americans. i think they have a list of american sounding names to give to you everytime in front of them lol. unfortunately according to statistics about every 1/however many people fall for it so they can keep getting money.

please just be smart, make your payments yourselves online or in person if you do have an outstanding balance and run these guys out of business.

these people are scammers, just give them fake information and play around with them if you get a bang out of that like I do. check your own damn balance to see if your late and make the payment online or in person people, not give your social to some goddamned stranger working in a scam scheme.

    100% SCAM

Somebody named "Mr. Harris" called twice in a two minute period and left a message on my Google Voice voice mail, asking me to call 800-545-1256 for a personal business matter.

Get yourself a Google Voice number, you will never be harassed by debt collection jerks again!

was your comment even remotely necessary?  do you happen to know miss sunny personally, or have even a figment of knowledge about her financial status, much less her bill-paying habits?  do everyone a favor and stop being a prick.

Call directed at my mother. The thing that most upset me about the call (besides their getting her name wrong) was that the rep REFUSED TO SAY HE WAS CALLING ON BEHALF OF MACY'S.   Just that my mother should call them about "a personal business matter".   I figured out later online that this was Macy's but in the three calls I got in the last two days they adamantly refused to identify beyond "personal business matter".  Had he just said he was calling on behalf of Macy's, it would have been a non-issue and things would be resolved quickly.  But my mother is an old-fashioned old person who'll not call a number blindly w/o knowing from whom the call came.

Got a call from 1-800 545 1256. I wanted to make an payment over the phone and asked how do I know if this is a reputable call. The representative was able to give me all my personal information including my full social security number. I am completely shocked that Macy's allow their representatives access to such sensitive personal information!!!

Called Macy's at  1-877-493-9207. Was told that it was a Macy's vendor that called and that the person did make a note on my account that I was contacted. Macy's did recognize the number and the call.
I am very unhappy that my sensitive personal information (such as my social security number) was so ready available. I complained about it but got nowhere with it.

I have received calls from these people on various different numbers looking for someone close to but not my name. They wanted to get MY information so they could correct it. I am physically going to Macys today and talking to a Supervisor to make sure they know that IF they hired out this company, their data is wrong and compromised, therefore not only will I stop being a customer, I will let others know as that is a violation of consumer rights and I am quite sure, federal law and PCI compliance.

I just got a call from a guy with a heavy accent (pretty sure Indian) asking for my dad. I said he wasn't home, so he asked "May I leave my name and number?" So I said all right, at which point he says something completely unintelligible and I ask what did he say, but he just leaves me this number: 1-800-545-1256.

So yeah, the unintelligible part was the guy's name and he didn't even care enough to slow down and explain it to me so I'd get it right. Clearly, I'm never going to have to know this name again and he's probably got a lot of calls to make...

Anyway, I seem to recall Dad didn't get around to paying Macy's (completely forgot to send the check, even though it was in his briefcase for a month, lol), so I'm guessing by everyone's comments here that the call was regarding that. In any case, I wouldn't suggest giving out your social security number or any other kind of number to an unknown person over the phone. Most of the people here know that, but I'm just sayin', better safe than sorry.

We received a call this morning (2/16/11) from 1-800-575-1256, asking to speak to our son, who moved away 7 years ago. We did NOT give the caller his new number but said we'd pass along the message. I haven't had a Macy's card in probably 35 years & he most assuredly has NEVER had one, so we'll pass along the message with a cautionary note to him just in case anyone from that number ever calls his house.

Eunice, I recommend that you keep complaining, and threaten to drop your Macy's account (if that works for you!). Your SSN should *NEVER* be passed along like that. In fact, it's not even supposed to be used for identification. The university where I taught quit using employee and student SSNs as ID numbers about 5 or 6 years ago, switching to randomly generated numbers.

I was told that it was "Mr Goodman" calling but he wouldn't tell me what the call was referring to.  Also, I've made payment on my Macy's card so I find this strange.  Anyway, isn't it illegal to constantly call and harass customers?
