I have never had a Macy's card.  I have shopped there occasionally and used my other credit cards.  Their daily calls to my home at 8 am trying to tell me I have a credit card problem are an outrageous intrusion on my privacy.  Until this corporate practice ceases, I hope each reader will join me in simply boycotting Macy's, period.

Rude foreign speaking man.  As to speak to a member of my family that was not home.  Would not tell me anything, just that it was an important business matter.

I believe this is scam. I received same call and stated if I paid the over due balance, they will waive the late fee and ask for my checking account#. I asked for the number to call back. It's the 1800-545-1256. However, Macy website has different#. So the next day, I went to Macy store to verify my balance. I was told my balance is 0. So, I believe it must be a scam.

Got a call on "a personal business matter" with a message to call to 1-800-545-1256. Searched the net and found out it's "macy's collection". The problem is I do not have a balance on Macy's card since I haven't used it for years. The bad news is that since I haven't used it for so long, I can't find it.

Ok, I've read tons of these posts - I just got an email from an amy.b.snyder@macys.com thanking me for my fraud inquiry.

I don't have a Macy's card and never made a fraud inquiry!  I would say this is a scam.

Macy's is in violation of the fair debt collections act. They are legally not allowed to harass you. You can file a compliant with the FTC it's actually very easy to do online and only takes a few min

Tis' the season to paper parking lots! I've never had a card with Macys but that didn't keep them calling my business line every day for two months this summer.

Something like: "macys products exploit child labor", on the windshields of 500 cars on black friday might make an adequate point.

Don't forget to do your part this week. If you can't do 500, do 100.

    Thanks!

It's Macy's, for their credit card. I was a former employee with Macy's and had a Macy's card. Unfortunately someone managed to open another account with my social so they called to talk to the man that opened the card. Supposedly it's taken care of.

    An "Amber Vargo"
called for my dad and said it was a "personal business matter" and said that our state (Maryland) disallowed her from saying anything more. Sounds like some kind of scam to me. Why wouldn't she say what business she is from?
    • Caller: Would not tell me

"that our state (Maryland) disallowed her from saying anything more"  This sounds like a debt scammer.  Federal law covers them and then state law.  They are not allowed to discuss the debt, but they are supposed to identify themselves and they are required to identify the name of their company if requested:
    § 804.  Acquisition of location information  [15 USC 1692b]

Any debt collector communicating with any person other than the consumer for the purpose of acquiring location information about the consumer shall --

    (1) identify himself, state that he is confirming or correcting location information concerning the consumer, and, only if expressly requested, identify his employer;

Further, is there a reason why these people could not locate your dad?  Many times debt scammers will call family, friends and neighbors to create panic and embarrassment to make the intended victim easier to scare into paying their extortion money.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
