they called my husband's phone looking for maybe me maybe a relative (our names sound similar). They left a message on an anonymous number threatening to take legal action and I better call a lawyer. I researched this and I do NOT have any cards they issue or back. I do NOT have any cards out in my name and checked my credit report to verify this! I got "Special agent" turner. isn't this illegal? Can I sue them?

Yep. Got same type of call today. Left the same type of message as previous posts. Apparently, concerning my spouse. Don't know for sure because they didn't have her correct name. I stopped answering "UNKNOWN" and "RESTRICTED" calls a long time ago. This company is of the lower, sleazier end of the collections racket. Looks like they buy debt from small retail (store cards). Looked through a few posts on this site stating they had called a few peoples place of work: 99.9 % sure that's illegal unless, you signed something saying they had permission to do so. Definitely seems like they are skirting the regulations/law as much as they can. Amazing to me that they have been functioning for so long using the same sleaze-ball tactics year after year.

This is the second call ive gotten from this number. They are asking for my niece,who doesnt and has never lived with me. There is no way these jokers could have connected my number to her name except fisheing for people with the same last name.

While I didn't get a call from this number, it was the number left to me by the person I spoke to. I keep getting calls from Pennsylvania and Colorado from people looking for my MOTHER. While this previous call was civil(albeit brief and undetailed), I've received voicemails in the past threatening an escalating issue, but no other information is given. I've given them my mother's number in the past, but considering I still get calls asking for her, I've somewhat written it off as a scam. Not too much else I can except monitor it.

Since this has been identified here as Comenity Bank, there is a lot you can do.  You can send them a certified, return receipt "not me" letter as their address is easily found on the internet.  You can file reports of their harassment at federal and state agencies, and you can sue them for the harassment as well.  Or you can do nothing.  Your choice.

Reported the other number this caller used .They are calling my daughter's phone now about me. Other caller was Mis Carter this one Adam . How can the American public stop these calls. ?

I just checked my vm on my cellphone and had a call from this number for my brother who lives hundreds of miles away in another state claiming to be "Specialist McGregor" with the extension 1226199. No mention of who he works for or is representing. I called them and asked to be removed from their list because they have the wrong number. I told my brother. He can deal with them as he sees fit.

Got the call. Very serious and critical matter. I was scared. N-O-T....Bogus bill collector using big words to sound professional. Do what i do. Politely ask the person on the phone can they loan you $500. so you can pay the debt....lol

Didn't answer this one, but loved the message. We keep getting collection calls for someone else.  We answer, when convenient, and tell the caller they have the wrong number.  It's been going on for years.  Makes me wonder how they associate our number with the irresponsible debtor.

Received a message on my machine today (6/21/2018) from "Michelle" from Comenity Bank about a "serious issue" that she would have to take action on today, with or without my input! Returned the call at 1-800-695-7444 xt.1227874 and was greeted by a woman whose first language certainly wasn't english. She couldn't give me my number or even spell my name, but was fishing for personal information. I told her my attorney would be in touch.

Get a message form a Gina Irwin looking for Rachel Bomar call came in from 913-312-9490, to call back at 1-800-695-7444 x122-7559 she's left a few messages. wish these bill collectors would check the numbers they are calling before doing so.

Repeated calls

Got a call for my son from this number saying they are from Community Bank and that they had left 111 messages for him. I asked what number they had called and they gave me my cell number and house phone. I had only received one call and my son has never heard of them so I believe it is a scam

Thanks everyone for your posts! Glad I checked in here. This is definitely a scam. Received a bogus message today (8/1/2018) from 800-695-7444 (ext 1267515, haha). The "person" didn't leave a name, and it might be a robo-voice because it sounded so unnatural. It was a threatening call that if I or my attorney 'didn't call back today' to 'resolve this issue' they'd take additional unnamed steps. Buried in the middle of the message is a reference to either Communty Bank or Comenity Bank.

This guy keeps calling me about a debt my sister has with Victoria's secret. It's ridiculous he keeps saying she needs to call back or get a lawyer.  The messages are always made out to sound really threatening and they block their number and harass me at unusual hours.  All this over like $200. I've had a cellphone bill go to collections that was twice that and the debt collectors were respectful about it and never threatened legal action. Seems like just dumb scare tactics to me, I doubt they would take anyone to court over $200 in CC debt.

I see the solution to that has been posted several times in this thread.  Even right here on this page.  Maybe you should read and learn?
