    Its world financial .. they have been trying to get money from me for two years. They claim I made charges but I haven't used my card in almost four yrs. Someone either stole my account or they added charges to get money. Never had a problem with lane bryant or victoria secret until they took over the payment handling. I hate it.

    "Agent" Cooper called me at said that me or my attorney needed to call me as they would be making a decision today that would impact my life. He sounded like a big black man wearing a FBI badge. He commented the call was documented stating the time and date and advised me to call now for this not to happen. The matter required my immediate attention.  Call extension 7447

    When I called the number, it was World Financial.

    It's amazing how these companies operate. Is this tactic legal or can it be considered a illegal tactic on their part?

    Miss R
    Rec'd phone call 2/2/12 from Agent Donaldson, 800-695-7444, ext 7791.  Stated she had a file to review with me and my attorney.  No other info.  If this is in fact a collection agency, Ms. Donaldson misrepresented herself as an "agent."  I have a close relative who is actually a Federal Agent, and he was appalled to learn of this.  Ms. Donaldson can look forward to a visit from a govt agency for the misrepresentation.

    And yes, I do have an outstanding debt.  I went to Consumer Credit Counsling months ago and all my payments are on time and accurate.  There is no need for me to receive harrassing phone calls.  Another strike against Ms. Donaldson and her company.

    We repeatedly get telephone calls from a "Mrs Flemming" whose caller ID shows up from a private telephone number.  With every call, I am asked to provide the last 4 numbers of my social security, which I have sense enough to never give.  When asked what number the call is being made from, she answered 800-695-7444 ext. 4664.

    Debt And Your Rights - FDCPA Summary

    Your Rights under Fair Debt Laws:

    Debt collection practices are regulated by both State and federal laws. Debt collectors are legally prohibited from doing many things, including threatening or harassing you, contacting you at inconvenient times or places, telling others about your debt, continuing to contact you if you have requested that they stop, and many other unfair and abusive practices. Under the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act), you have the right to sue a debt collector who violates the law, in a state or federal court within one year from the date of the violation. If you win, you may recover money for the damages you suffered or statutory damages up to $1,000. Court costs and attorney's fees can also be paid for by the collector. Contact us today Alex Simanovsky & Associates or fill out our form for a free fair debt case review.

    What is a debt collector?
    A debt collector is any person who regularly collects debts owed to others and the attorneys who collect debts on a regular basis.
    Tries to recover the debts that are:
        Personal, family, and household debts are covered under the Act
        Money owed for the purchase of an automobile, for medical care, or for charge accounts.
    A collector may contact you in person, by mail, telephone, telegram, or fax.
    A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., unless you agree.

    A debt collector also may not contact you at work if the collector knows that your employer disapproves of such contacts. You can stop a debt collector from contacting you by writing a debt dispute letter to the collector telling them to stop. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again except to say there will be no further contact or to notify you that the debt collector or the creditor intends to take some specific action. Please note, however, that sending such a letter to a collector does not make the debt go away if you actually owe it. You could still be sued by the debt collector or your original creditor.
    If you have an attorney, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you do not have an attorney, a collector may contact other people, but only to find out where you live, what your phone number is, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting such third parties more than once. In most cases, the collector may not tell anyone other than you and your attorney that you owe money.

    Within five days after you are first contacted, the collector must send you a written notice telling you the amount of money you owe; the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money; and what action to take if you believe you do not owe the money.

    May a debt collector continue to contact you if you believe you do not owe money?
    A collector may not contact you if, within 30 days after you receive the written notice, you send the collection agency a letter stating you do not owe money. However, a collector can renew collection activities if you are sent proof of the debt, such as a copy of a bill for the amount owed. What types of debt collection practices are prohibited?

    Debt Collection activities are strictly regulated against the following:

        Use threats of violence or harm;
        Publish a list of consumers who refuse to pay their debts (except to a credit bureau);
        Use obscene or profane language; or repeatedly use the telephone to annoy someone.
        Falsely imply that they are attorneys or government representatives;
        Falsely imply that you have committed a crime;
        Falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit bureau;
        Misrepresent the amount of your debt;
        Indicate that papers being sent to you are legal forms when they are not; or
        Indicate that papers being sent to you are not legal forms when they are.
        State you will be arrested if you do not pay your debt;
        State they will seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages, unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so, and it is legal to do so; or
        Actions, such as a lawsuit, will be taken against you, when such action legally may not be taken, or when they do not intend to take such action.
        Give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit bureau;
        Send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency when it is not; or
        Use a false name.
        Collect any amount greater than your debt, unless your state law permits such a charge;
        Deposit a post-dated check prematurely;
        Use deception to make you accept collect calls or pay for telegrams;
        Take or threaten to take your property unless this can be done legally; or
        Contact you by postcard.

    Agent Matthews called me and threatened the whole "call me by 9pm or I will be forced to make a decision that will greatly affect you." Threats direct or implied are against the law and these jerks can be sued if they threaten you. Contact your attorney to make them stop.

    Thank you.  I just got the same call and owe no debt to anyone (outside my mortgage which I pay on-time).  I did not want to return a call to a scam.  I appreciate your note.

    How did they get my name?  I'm not behind any payment and I owe no debt.  You say it is legit but the message was unprofessional and shady.  I don't plan on returning their call just to clear-up their mistake.

    I got the same call from mrs. Fleming she left a message the caller i.d.came up private but the # she left was for World financial. With the same threat of call an attorney or else message. These people have been calling my house for monthsclaiming my husband owes money on a credit card. not only do we not owe money we have no debt. ever. Did some research and spoke with a police officer that deals with identity theft and said this is a SCAM. If you truly owe money to someone they would mail you a letter 1st with all the facts before ever harrassing you over the phone. They are simply phishing for information!

    My wife got a call from ext. 7785 about a debt she could not pay off, so they made it seem like they would take it to "the next level" if she did not give out her information over the phone. They used scare tactics and she gave out her info. I was mad to say the least that she did that. Taking money out every 2 weeks out of our bank account is not working for us. I put a stop payment on all of it. I called back and when I said that she will never give out any info over the phone, the lady said that I was "wasting her time" with talking about things that didnt have to do with paying back the money owed. They claimed they never use scare tactics and that my wife was a "big girl who can make her own decisions."  A letter will be written to the company to have them stop payments on the account. Unbelievable.
