- Some bad news for you...| 2 repliesI have some terribly bad news for all of you! World Financial Network, now Comenity Bank, is a bank that issues credit cards for many many different stores, including Abercrombie & Fitch and The Limited, therefore, WFNNB, or Comenity Bank, are the original creditors and are NOT subject to the laws and conditions of the FDCPA. Which, unfortunately, means they can act like [***] and do anything they want and not be held accountable for FDCPA violations. And, to be honest, I believe these jerks know this and behave accordingly. If they think they're getting paid talking like d-bag white trash to me, they've got another thing coming! I personally will pay this bill without dealing with these [***] directly and NEVER shop at ANY of their stores EVER AGAIN! I found the list of them. I will list them here in case anyone else would care to join in a boycott.

- MRutan replies to sNow my call was from Mrs. Humphrey. It was for my daughter and she said this is very serious and I need to get in touch with her immediately. I said well she's at work. She said well I can call her there. I replied. Unless you're one of her children and you're bleeding to death you can't call her at work. She told me that this is a very serious matter and she needs to get an attorney. Then I get on here and see this. I will tell her not to freak out.
- Dameon| 2 repliesI also got a call from a "specialist", saying that she was the attorney representing me, and that if I didn't have one, that I shouldn't ignore her call, and that she would be in until 10pm my time. (CST). "If I do not hear from you immediately, I will have no choice but to move forward...." The number showed up as unlisted, but the voicemail stated the phone number, which is how I found this forum.
Scared me something awful until I read everything here.
I do owe Fashion Bug, and I had an payment arrangement with them, but it did fall through the cracks. I am working to resolve this. One way or the other, I don't appreciate being threatened. I will call Fashion Bug back and then resolve my situation, and remind them that threats don't obtain money.- Caller: Unstated

- JenniI received a message on my answering machine from Comenity Bank from "Rebecca" stating that I or my attorney had until 7:00 to return her call or "further actions will be taken." I haven't worked since January and on top of that I have medical issues that require me to go to the hospital for treatment once a week. I really don't need this harassment.

- Kmoore| 1 replyI had a voicemail from a company who called and left a message stating that if I didn't have an attorney then I needed to contact them immediately and the call was being recorded so that the call could be tracked. The number on my caller ID was 614-729-7501 but likely not owned such as a Google number. The number to call back was 800-695-7444 x 1227507
He did not state what firm he was calling from, his name, what the issue was about. In reality, legal matters must be delivered in writing to be "served" for any lawsuit if I'm not mistaken. They are using illegal practices- Caller: Claimed to be an attorney's office

- Alfalfa replies to AnonymousThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - J| 1 replyThree calls today from "Unknown," on the first two I would say "Hello?" a couple times, hear someone rustling around, then they'd hang up. The third time I let it go to voice mail, and they left a message, where a "Miss Cass" claimed they had a "matter" I was required by law to contact them about immediately. They said I must retain a lawyer or call them by 10:00 PM, or else they would make a decision that would affect the rest of my life. The number given was 800-695-7444, which online info says is Redline Recovery Services, not that I'd know from the message because they won't tell you who they are. Given how much this sounds like a threat, I'm not surprised it's a debt collector. Not only did they not reveal the company they work for, they didn't announce per the Fair Debt Collections Act that they were attempting to collect a debt. Online info shows they work for Comenity Bank, which makes sense, because I have been disputing a charge on my Roaman's account for months, and have sent them numerous letters, but they ignore them all. They just left messages constantly insisting I call them back, which I won't do -- per the FDCA, calling a creditor does not protect your own rights. It doesn't surprise me that Comenity is resorting to fake legal threats, either. I saved a copy of the voice message and will be filing a complaint with the government over Comenity's practices. Oh, and if you want to know what Redline Recovery Services is like, look up the news article "Woman Sues Debt Collector Over Phony Call" -- someone from Redline pretended to be her lawyer and scared her into using her husband's retirement to pay them off!
