I received this call and didn't trust it either, so I checked my WF account. I DID actually have fraudulent charges on my account (luckily it wasn't too bad), but I went through the number posted on the WF website instead. I suggest that if you receive this number, that you check your account because it may actually be true that you have fraudulent charges; however, DO NOT call this number. Rather, call the number posted on the WF website. They took care of it today, canceled my card and are sending me a new one. They acted very quickly. I have no idea what this number is, but somehow they were correct in that I had fraudulent charges. I wouldn't completely ignore it.

Scammers perpetuating this scam CANNOT give up on asserting this number is a legit number for WF (and it is NOT). They will spin a web of lies and even give out good advice like call the number on the back of your WF card but they will *NEVER*NEVER*NEVER* give up on asserting this FAKE number is legit (and it is NOT) because they need the victims they call to believe that victims are talking to the real WF (and they're NOT) regardless of what else their victim may do, including calling the back of their WF card. Steff's "if you receive this number, that you check your account " and "I wouldn't completely ignore it" gives her away -- soft, indirect, insidious SCAMMER assertions that 800-704-0855 is associated with WF (and it is NOT).

Just freaked out after reading this board.  I got a call from that number, gave them some info, and then the line went dead.  I read some posts on the internet, freaked out and thought I had been scammed.  I called the number on the back of my card and the person verified that the first number was an actual WF #.  they had records of the disconnection on file.  They were calling to verify a large purchase I made out of state.

The women told to that when in doubt you should always hang up and dial the number on the back of the card.  An actual representative will always let you hang up and call back, not try and talk you out of it.  So that is what I am going to do from now on.

Just received a call from this number, they left a voice message claiming to be Wells Fargo fraud prevention.
I always research unknown 1800 numbers on here, fearing that it was indeed a scam I called the number provided to me on my VISA card. They verified that this NUMBER IS NOT WELLS FARGO. If you have any suspicions what so ever, I recommend to always contact your financial institution directly.

You're an idiot. I agree: make it simple and safe, and call the number on the back of the card.  However, it IS a WF number. If you have no verifiable evidence to prove otherwise, keep your trap shut. I could explain my situation with that number, but you would all call me a "SCAMMER" who lies.  Ridiculous childishness.

Re. "it IS a WF number", the SCAMMERS will never give up on trying to convince you, the potential victim, that this number is a legit WF number (and it is NOT). They will even go as far as to tell you to call the number on the back of your WF card, but this correct instruction is generally woven into their FAKE stories as a *PROP* to help "prove" that this number is a legit WF number (and it is NOT) but in this particular instance, Jay Gatz declined to sit at the loom. Why do the SCAMMERS keep insisting this is a WF number (and it is NOT)? That's because they want you, the potential victim, to believe you are talking to the real WF on this number (and you are NOT) and give your ID and card info away willingly to this number (and you should NOT).

Re. "If you have no verifiable evidence to prove otherwise, keep your trap shut", Andre on page 12 said on 10 Jan 2013 "they left a voice message claiming to be Wells Fargo fraud prevention ... fearing that it was indeed a scam I called the number provided to me on my VISA card. They verified that this NUMBER IS NOT WELLS FARGO".  I trust you will agree that Andre's post is equally credible and as verifiable as yours?   Hahahahahaha!!!

I recieved very official sounding voicemail on my cell phone to call 800-704-0855 regarding possible fraudulent activity on my bank account.  Instead of calling that number, I called the number from my bank's website.  The bank's fraud department confirmed that 800-704-0855 is NOT a Wells Fargo number.  It is likely a sophisticated pfishing scam.
My card was fraudulently used last year and what a pain.  Don't give anyone an open door to your information!

Last night i tried to purchase a $2400 lens for my business from B&H Photo.  The online transaction would not go through and I got an error message that said to contact the company I have the card with (Wells Fargo).  This morning I received a call from 1-800-704-0855.

I will be using the number on the back of my card to straighten the issue out.

Anonymous, what is your deal?  We got one of these calls today, called WF using the number on the back of the card-not the number from the call-and they verified that they had called today.  The only information they asked for was our zip code; they accurately listed the last 5 transactions on the account.

It may very well be that there are scammers faking the number that appears on your caller ID, so, as so many people before me have said, don't call the number from the message.  Call the number from the back of your card.  It is irrelevant whether or not this is a legitimate WF number; just don't call it!

What is Sue Rutford's deal? 800notes is an anonymous forum and there was no one at 800notes door to check that Sue's claims are factually true before 800notes let Sue post. Since there is no way to verify that Sue speaks the truth, Sue's claims are nothing but ALLEGATIONS. Sue's ALLEGATIONS do not prove this is a legit number. The only people who can benefit from Sue's ALLEGATIONS are SCAMMERS who will steal your account and personal info followed shortly by your money and ID.

If what Sue says is true, then the only info WF had on Sue's call is Sue's calling number and zip code. A zip code is NOT enough to identify anyone to WF, and WF would *NEVER* use your calling number to identify you because of spoofing  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID_spoofing  so it would have been *IMPOSSIBLE* for WF to identify Sue's account and recite Sue's last 5 transactions. This is an incredibly shallow stupid lie and Sue Rutford should go back to shill school.

Sue's statement "It may very well be that there are scammers faking the number that appears on your caller ID" is in itself INCONSISTENT with Sue's ALLEGATION that this alleged WF number called her for WF has absolutely *NO* need to spoof their own alleged number to their own customers. Yes, Sue Rutford does need to go back to shill school.

The SCAMMERS will never give up on trying to convince you, the potential victim, that this number is a legit WF number (and it is NOT). They will even go as far as to tell you to "Call the number from the back of your card", but this correct instruction is woven into their FAKE stories as a prop to "prove" that this number is a legit WF number (and it is NOT). They will *NEVER*NEVER*NEVER* give up on alleging this number is a legit WF number (and it is NOT) because they need you, the potential victim, to willingly give up your ID and account info should you fall into their trap and think you are talking to a real WF rep (and you are NOT) on this number.

What Mike is attempting to do here is link this fake-WF number to a legit WF card transaction (and the ALLEGED transaction is just a fake story). The SCAMMERS will never give up on trying to convince you, the potential victim, that this number is a legit WF number (and it is NOT). They will even go as far as to tell you they "will be using the number on the back of my card to straighten the issue out", but this correct response is woven into their FAKE stories as a prop to "prove" that this number is a legit WF number (and it is NOT). It's a total scam.  The caller ID said the call originated from a lobby currently under construction at the business I work for.  They asked for someone who transferred out a year ago.  I reported them to Wells Fargo but the number has complaints going back to 2011 on this forum alone so it doesn't seem like Well Fargo cares.  Glad I don't bank there!

Got the phone call this morning, I am out of town so the wife sms's me the number. Googled it and got to this site.

I have lived all over the world and had/have accounts in the UK, US, Mexico, Malaysia Canada to name a a few.

Like most people on here I would never phone a number I did not recognize nor open a link in an email from any financial institution.

Checked my account and nothing seemed out of place

So called up the number on the back of my debit card and eventually got thru to account services fraud dept.

Yes they did call me?? Some transactions from out of state. I am actually out of state on business most of the time, and have been for the last year, why i took them so long to notice i don't know.

Anyway, after clearing that up and having a note put on my accounts that I travel a lot I asked if the number 800-704-0855 was them calling me or was this just a coincidence. No she said (debbie) it was them. Go figure??

It all worked out for the best in the end.

But Never call anything other than the number on your card or statement, and never follow a link from an email, speak to the bank on a regular basis, If going traveling give the bank a heads up (my UK account was regularly frozen, so they gave me a direct line number and I told them where I would be and for how long). Regularly check your account, anything looks odd get on the phone to the number on your card.

People out there want our money, we can keep it safe, but it takes a bit of work.

    Be good

    Hello Mr/Mrs Anonymous

If you read my post correctly I didn't say that the number was WF, that was just the answer I got from the WF rep.
I agreed with your 6 points, and also said under NO circumstances should anyone call any number other than the number on their card or statement.

Your quote      "SCAMMERS will even weave good advice like "Never call anything other than the number on your card or statement" into their SHILL posts but this correct instruction is just a PROP to help "prove" that this number is a legit WF number"         makes no sense, If you don't say it your a scammer, If you do say it your a scammer??????????

Whether you believe my story is actually irrelevant, and I personally couldn’t give a [***] if you do or don't.

The advice is still valid, and that all it is, good, sound common sense advice.

I have yet to be scammed, because I follow my own advice.

I understand that you obviously have some anger issues and have been scammed or had your identity stolen in the past.

But please try to read and understand the posts of other people before you go off on a rant.

Stay safe and sane, but please take your anger medication

Got a call from 800 704 0855 stating that my son's acct. may have fraudlent charges.  In the recorded message they stated his full name and to call the above number.  I had him call the number on the back of his card as told to us last year when his old acct. had been a victim of a scam. They said they show no suspicious activity.  I had him check his acct. to make sure also.  Last year my son actually fell for an email fraud alert. He had to close the acct.  PLease make sure you never give anyone (even a bank worker) your pin # or CVS#.  Always call the number on the back of your card no matter what if you get a call regarding possible fraud charges!

Re. "I didn't say that the number was WF", if you had read my post correctly, I didn't say that you had said this number is WF, I only said that your assertion that you were allegedly told by a WF rep does NOT prove this number is a legit WF number (and it is NOT).

Re. "If you don't say it your a scammer, If you do say it your a scammer", SCAMMERS only rachet down and say it when confronted by evidence that this number is not WF, and I do believe you understand the SCAMMER strategy involved.

Re. "Whether you believe my story is actually irrelevant, and I personally couldn’t give a s**t if you do or don't", if you really didn't care, you would not have replied.

Re. "The advice is still valid, and that all it is, good, sound common sense advice", your advice by itself is valid but it is problematic when used in conjunction with your assertion that you were allegedly told by a WF rep that this is a legit number (and it is NOT).

Re. "I understand that you ... have been scammed or had your identity stolen in the past", you conjecture, not understand.

"you obviously have some anger issues" and "please take your anger medication" are ad hominem attacks: "logically fallacious because insults and negative facts about the opponent's personal character have nothing to do with the logical merits of the opponent's arguments or assertions".

This number is a scam!! Please do not give your debit card number to them! I called four different times and each time I told them that I would not give them my card number because there was no proof that they were from Wells Fargo. Each time, they told me to call the number on the back of my Wells Fargo card. Before I hung up, I told them that "karma is a [***]" and they had better look for a new job or plan on spending some time in prison.
