Thanks to this post, I called the number on my card and sure enough, someone did steal my info and tried to order a bunch of stuff with my card!  If this number calls you, call the number on the back of your wells fargo card and get it situated!

So. I saw this post and called Wells Fargo directly after getting a call regarding fraud on my account just to be safe. It is not a scam. My card had had a hold placed on it because someone tried to make 4 back-to-back purchases for approximately $128 each from Modlily minutes before I got the call. I didn't make those charges and now have a new card on the way. Believe what you want, but if you get a call from this number, call the bank directly to be safe. Don't ignore it all together.

The large number of  shillers basically posting to  tell everyone how "legit" this number is, is pretty strong evidence of a scam.

This number is  most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real,   is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. At a 40% shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam.  At least that's the way I see it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go as high as 50%. Sometimes even higher.

This  scam is well documented.  Simply google it out.  Based  on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.

T hese type of calls follow a  similar pattern.  They all  claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions.  Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”.   All with the same type of   postings.  All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made.  Or something similar.  They all ask for personal or personal financial information.

Just part of the shillers  criminal MO.

I've noticed the  shill posters often use the same turns of phrase.  Same old, same old verbiage telling  everyone how "legit" the calls are.

Personally I think the group or groups  posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both.  They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.

In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you.  If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.

Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far.  (That I’ve been able to find.)

Let's see now.  You weren't aware that someone had supposedly used your card number.  But you decided to come to this site anyway.  Then you called the number on your card.  Right.

This is a scam.  And you're part of it.  You shillers think you are putting something over on people.  But you're not.  The authorities haven't caught up with you yet, but they will.

If they called you - your card has been probably been fraudulently charged.  I called Wells Fargo Fraud from the number on my card  after receiving the call from this strange number.  They comfirmed that that my card was immediately closed after a fraud charge attempt.  This strange 800 number gave me the last 4 of my card number in a message left on my phone ... they had my card number and my phone number, but that was not enough to convince me to call them back.  I called the bank instead and was told it was a fraud attempt.

This is a legitimate call from Wells Fargo Bank. You receive the text to call because you are on their Fraud Alert program. They do not ask for any private information, whatsoever. When you answer the call or call them back, a robot tells you that you have recent activity through your bank account that appears suspicious. The robot reviews the last 5 transactions on your accounts and asks you to confirm or deny the charges. Then they go over the next action for you to take, if applicable

How did you find this web site?  I found it when I googled a phone number that was harassing me.  I think that's how most people get here.  Is that what happened to you?  Did you google this phone number so you could write nice things about it?  Or are you a scammer trying to counteract the scam reports here?  Do you like being a scammer?  Do you sleep well at night?  Or does your conscience keep you awake?

This IS a legitimate number for Wells Fargo.  We called our bank directly and found out we had a charge to Cathay Pacific for over $900.....Wells Fargo caught  it and denied it, so they called to let us know about it.  They cancelled our card and have re-issued another.  I know it's a shady world we live in, so we have to be vigilant, but don't disregard the call.  If you feel more comfortable calling the bank directly, do that.  But if that number calls, there's something fishy with your account.  Good luck!

I got a call from this number today, and they left me a message. I called the number on the back of my card and they confirmed that it is a legit Wells Fargo Number. I had been out of town shopping last week and they were checking up on it.  ALWAYS call the number on the back of your card to make sure!!!!

Today, I received a text message from a previously verified WF number regarding fraudulent transactions on my account. I also received a call from 1-800-704-0855. After calling the main WF number on the back of my card, I learned that the 800-704 number is Wells Fargo. They had caught several fraudulent transactions on my card all over the US and in China. As others have said, if you do not recognize the number, call the main WF number on the back of your card.

This is definitely a scam and the positive postings on this website are ALL scams! I work at Wells Fargo; however, I do not bank at Wells Fargo. I have verified internally and this is not a Wells Fargo Fraud Prevention number. Again, this is 100% fraud.

Well people, take it for what it's worth... Some reply's are saying this is a scam while others are not. Just to be sure, I called my bank using the number on the back of my card - NOT the phone number provided in the phone message. It turns out that I did in fact have two fraudulent charges on the card listed in the message. I did not ask if the phone number in question here was valid.

Well folks, take this for what it's worth... some here are saying this is a scam, others are saying it's real. Just to be sure I called the customer service number on the back of my card and had them check my account and I DID have two fraudulent charges. I did not ask if the number in question here was valid.

This is NOT a scam.  800-704-0855 is a legitimate Wells Fargo phone number.  I confirmed this with Wells Fargo directly.  There was fraudulent activity on my card and a message said to call this number.  I called WF with a different number first and verified the activity as well as the call back number.

Rcvd call from this number after attempting to make an online purchase.  Caught wind of this number possibly being fraud, so I called main Wells Fargo number (1-800-869-3557) and confirmed with banker that it IS a WF number and they were calling to verify my online purchase attempt.

I got a call from that number also. I did call it back but hung up after listening to the options. Not sure if it was a legit number or not so I called the number on the back of my card and verified all my transactions so my card is good.
