- MKRecently got a message claiming to be from Wells Fargo regarding some potentially fraudulent charges. I called the number on the back of my credit card just to be sure, and the CSR verified there was nothing wrong with my account, although she suggested that a recent $900 ticket I had bought with an airline company I normally don't buy from might have been the cause of this voice mail. In any case, NEVER call any 800 number given to you through voicemail - you should always call the number on the back of your credit card. Stay safe out there.
- Chris| 1 replyThis is an valid Wells Fargo number. All a call from them means is that WF noticed some charges that *may* be fraudulent. Ignore the call if you want to, but for your own safety, please check your account online or with a teller as soon as you get this call.
I got the call after purchasing gas at two different locations within one hour.- Caller: Wells Fargo

Check your account postings for any changes that aren't yours. If there are fraudulent charges, call your local bank and deal with it that way. NEVER call these numbers. - Kim| 1 replyFeb. 6th 2012
This may very well be a VALID number. I didn't pick up but googled the number right away. After reading a few posts, I checked my Wells Fargo account and there WAS FRAUDULENT charges--from Safeway in Glendale Arizona. We are and live in Minnesota. If you don't pick up the call, at least IMMEDIATELY check your account. I did not verify whether that number was from WF or not, but we've since filed a WF claim and a police report.- Caller: Unknown or Wells Fargo
- NateSCAM! Scam, scam, scam, scam, scam. I received a call from this number and went to identify it with the number on the Wells Fargo website. The callback number did not match up and I'm out $100. Do not give them ANY information...don't answer the phone. The people above that are saying this number is legit are more likely than not, people who are working for this company. I've seen this before with reviews on sketchy websites.

Received a call from 1 800 704-0855 soon after using my debit card for an unusual number (for me) of on-line purchases. Automated computer generated voice said there was a fraud alert, correctly identified me by my full name, and called both my cell phone and work numbers, asking to return their call. Went on-line and got a "real" number to Wells Fargo customer service who said that the number I received is not used by Wells Fargo.
EVERYONE BEWARE!!!
....maybe time to think about Lifelock??????- Caller: Said it was Wells Fargo
- RJI had already called Wells Fargo last night when I saw a pending charge on my debit card and reported it as fraudualent. Then today there were two more pending transactions so I called Wells Fargo again. They cancelled my debit card and sent me to the Fraud Dept. I had not listened to my voicemails yet but someone from this number had left a message this morning and while I was on the phone with WF fraud department I got another call from them. I'm glad I looked up this number and found these posts. I would definitely say anyone calling from this number would be pulling a scam.
- SamThis is a scam. Phishing for more info. The reason you are not able to find this number on a wells fargo page is it is not theirs. The reason there are so many posts saying this is a wells number, the scammers are posting that. If I were a scammer and paid to create an 800 number, I would want to milk it for all I could too. If that means posing on an unregulated site like this as an unknown person...all the better.
Don't be a sucker. Look at your account and call the normal wells number to deal with fraud charges. - Lola replies to hypno| 40 repliesIt is a Wells Fargo number and they called due to someone trying to hack into my online account by using the wrong password too many times-
- Terri| 1 replyI received a call from this number in February. I didn't answer it, listened to the message they left about suspicious activity and possible fraud and then called Wells Fargo. It was indeed a legit call. Someone had tried to charge $600 in Singapore (declined) and then 3 other smaller charges. They were pending. I believe i know what company is responsible as I had just had problems and demanded a refund from the company. Anyway, WF couldn't stop payment only the company could. The charges were cleared but disputed. It was less than 10 days for the money to be available to me. I too canceled my card immediately. My new card (personalized like my old) was here in 6 days.
- Caller: Wells Fargp
- JaredI'm going to have to agree with what the wiser half of the posts are saying here. Don't trust numbers not listed with the bank itself. I too got one of these calls today. While I had already discovered fraud activity on the account in question, reported it to the bank, and had the card cancelled prior to getting this call, I am convinced it was the scammer trying to obtain a PIN number or something else to do more damage before the card cancellation could go through.
Don't be fooled. Yes you may get a call from this number when there HAS been fraud activity taking place.... but remember the scammers know this too. A little bit of truth mixed with a lot of lies can cause you more headaches. Be safe, call the number on the back of the card, not a voicemail.- Caller: Wells Fargo?
- anonymous replies to Lola| 3 repliesGreat! But if you need to call Wells Fargo back, you know you must NEVER call this number back but should use the regular number you normally use to conduct business with Wells Fargo, right? NEVER call a strange number that calls you.
- KateReceived a call from this number twice within 5 minutes, leaving the same automated message: that there might be fraudulent activity on my WF account. I called the number back, shamefacedly. The number brought me to an automated response which then left me on hold for about four minutes. Once the hold music stopped, I was told by the automated host that my account could not be accessed at this time, and that I should try again later or call the WF customer service line of 800-869-3557 between the hours of 8AM and 9PM. (This is the standard 800-TO-WELLS number that I'm familiar with.) First I checked my account online- sure enough, fraudulent activity, draining my account of a deposit made just today. Then, I called 800-TO-WELLS. The CSR did not recognize the 800-704-0855 number but did see that WF had tried to contact me just moments prior (which would have been that specific number- I'd received no other calls.) The CSR told me that I needed to provide a password to discuss my account with her. I assumed it was my normal online password, but apparently not. I was beginning to feel suspicious of her, as well, but she explained that she could not access my account without this password; However, she could close down the card that was used in the fraudulent activity. The CSR shut down my card, then passed me to the fraud department, who verified my identity and then "filed a claim" to get my money returned. While both WF reps were helpful, the worst part is that I'm left without a card and with $0 in my bank account for the next ten days, or until WF decides to be generous. The fraudulent activity happened at a gas station in Illinois- I live in SW Montana. Bogus. But, I'd have to say, the 800-704-0855 DID warn me of suspicious activity, but might have been part of the scam, as well. Be cautious!
- ginnyTHIS IS A FRAUDULENT NUMBER! If you get a call from this number, call the number on the back of your CC or debit card immediately! It is from the people trying to use your card fraudulently so they can get your information. Wells Fargo has no record of this number. There were two attempts to charge my debit card. One for north of $2000.00! The people perpetrating this scam are sophisticated. Take the phone call seriously, but call your bank, not these jokers.
- DesertresidentYears ago I had an experience with a caller saying they were from the Fraud Department of a major credit card company and that there were questionable charges to my credit card. When I called the number they gave me, it all sounded so right until they asked me for my Social Security number, my mother's maiden name, and then the code number. I told them that if they truly are the Fraud Department of this major credit card company, all the requested information should be on file and that I do not give that information out on the phone no matter what. They got nasty and I hung up and there were never any questionable charges on my credit card and I never got another call from the Fraud Department.
I looked at my account and there are no alerts (which I have set up for various topics) and all looks A-OK. There are no phone numbers listed at Wells Fargo for 800-704-0855 and when you do a Google Search for the number they give you...IMO I would not call it. A bank would not expect you to blindly give them private banking information over the phone to a number you can't find listed under Wells Fargo. So those who said it is legit....I don't have anything so far that would make me follow up on this what appears to be a scam.- Caller: Wells Fargo Bank

- dorothea madrythey tole me something was wrong with my Wells Fargo account. I didnt call them back but called my bank. This is a SCAM. Dont call them , they want your bank info.
- Aaron| 1 replyFrom Wells Fargo. There was not enough money in my online-only debit card, and iTunes kept getting declined, but kept trying to charge. That's probably what triggered it. The number never asked for anything but my zip code and then read several transactions from my account. After that it said press 1 if these were made by you. I pressed one and they said thanks, we'll make a note of this in your account. They never asked for any other account related info - they already knew it all. Not a scam.
- Caller: Wells Fargo
- Smart1 800 704 0855 It is not Wells Fargo....it is a scam.........Wells Fargo told me it was not them.
Anyone who is telling you otherwise is in on the scam. - Fraud SquadPart of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:
