After making a purchase on-line from "RoseGal.com" a Bristish company...I recieved a phone call saying that there was unusual activity on my card, the automated system asked for my zip code...I decided to hang up, called the phone number on the back of my card, my representative told me that it was not a number associated with Wells Fargo...be wary

The automated attendant on the call asked for only my phone number, and ZIP CODE.  It then rattled off five, or more, transactions at retailers I visited yesterday, in person!

Once I confirmed that the transactions were mine, they told me that the flag would be removed, and that If I had any questions, to please call business banking for assistance.

This has happened a few times before... never with any negative consequences.  I purchase from vendors from all over the world... so it's no wonder that they see a purchase registering in Paris, or Munich, or Vegas, or NYC, and then see a swipe here in Dallas.

I appreciate their diligence with the security on my accounts.  #nothingtoseehere

Banks do NOT use automated messages, you get live humans.

Suspicious Phone Call : If you receive a suspicious phone call from someone claiming to be from Wells Fargo, call us immediately.     1-800-869-3557

Of course, they have nothing but voice prompts at that number, none of which pertains to "Suspicious phone calls".
They ask you to email it to them, so I guess they'll waste your time rather than get on the case.

What a farce! They have loads of people waiting to open an account for you, though. What you'd expect in a  nation of used car salesmen!

November 10 2015- got 2 calls, said it was in relation to possible fraud on my son's account. I called my local branch and they advised they are not affiliated with the telephone number and that it's a phishing call. Also, the digits of the card provided was for an account he closed.

This doesn't pass the smell test at all. I got the same automated message for someone with a completely different name and the opposite gender. Fishy if not phishing.

This is not a scam.  I checked it out and they just asked for my zip code.  It is WF and they were checking the use of my card today because of few too many transactions that we did make.

So many claiming this is fake. I got a call today and it was legit. I never give personal info to anyone who calls me. To error on the side of caution always hang up and call the number on the back of your card. calling wf to verify only takes a few seconds of your time.

I got the call twice today and decided to investigate after seeing all the posts. It IS Wells Fargo fraud department. It is Black Friday weekend and someone used my card at PlayStation.com. I don't play electronic games or know anyone else who plays. They fraudulently charged $89 on my account. I called Wells Fargo back from the phone number they called, and then I received a follow up email after our phone call.  They only asked for my zip code and that pretty much is it, and they canceled my card and will send another in the next 5 days. I appreciate everyone's caution, but I can vouch personally this number is not a fraud. Thank God the issue was caught quickly!!!

It's Wells Fargo checking if some card transactions are legit. No marketing or debt call. I just confirmed things by automated and did not even half to speak to anyone.

If you are referring to the number 800-704-0855 it IS NOT a valid Wells Fargo number. I contacted WF fraud section using the phone number on my statement and they confirmed that this was not one of their numbers and that there were not any questionable charges on my account. The call from that number is a scam!

It is legit. I called 800-869-3557 which is the number on the back of my Wells Fargo debit card. The banker was not familiar with the 800-704-0855 fraud prevention number but entered my card number and told me a fraud complaint was entered into system. But it apparently takes several days to see the transactions reversed. So I learned a lesson. Always call the number on the back of my card.

I ordered a children's book online from a post I saw on FB.  Minutes later I got a recorded call from this number, saying it was Wells Fargo, asking for my zip code.  Thankfully I hung up and called the bank, who said it was not them and cancelled the transaction, saying that it was fraud.
    • Caller: The recording said Wells Fargo

This was a real call.  I called the number on the back of my Debit card and confirmed.  I ordered an IPad Pro and accessories.  Apple billed it out in 3 separate orders causing a HOLD/FREEZE on the use of my card.  It almost spoiled the wife's Christmas surprise as they were trying to call her cell as well to confirm good or bad use of the card.

I have received calls from this Wells Fargo number numerous times as I always forget to notify them when I travel out of state and they usually suspend my card until I call back to confirm my transactions. I had some actual fraud happen on my account just this week, had to file and claim and get a new debit card. So when I saw this 800 # I googled it like I always do and got really nervous when I saw the the comments saying it's a scam. So I call the number provided by Wells Fargo for working on my claim and asked about this number. They confirmed it is one of their numbers used to confirm transactions that do not meet normal usage. It is a computer generated call and the only information they ask for if you call back is the phone number they called you at and zip code. To test the system I entered the wrong zip code and it recognized that it was incorrect. I usually just use this site to check numbers, but getting over $400 fraudulent transactions on my account this week made me want to make sure it does not happen to anyone else. If you got a call from this number and don't feel comfortable calling it back, I do encourage you to call the number on the back of your card and check on the status of your card and have them check with the fraud unit. I had alerts set up on my account so I knew about my fraud before I got the call from this 800 number, but if not for the alerts the call would have let me know that someone was using my card. SO THIS NUMBER IS NOT A SCAM. I know that most will not believe me, but I encourage anyone who does get a call at least call your bank. Good Luck, hope you don't end up in my situation, especially at Christmas.

For those of you that think this number is a scam I just laugh. I'm apart of the Wells Fargo Fraud Detection department and this is INDEED one of our numbers (specifically one of our debit card specialist numbers). No, Wells Fargo does not ask for your information if we call out to you but if you do call us we have to authenticate you. If you're ever suspcious of a call from said number or any number for that matter just call the number on the back of your card. I find it a bit ridiculous you all claim this as a scam. I guess everyone's a bit paranoid in this day and age.
