- DanWe just paid the bill today and then I received a call from this number and another one from a 615 area code. My number is not the primary phone number on the account. I called them back at the 1-800-754-0961 phone number. It seemed like it was Verizon's automated service but I waited until it forwarded me to a representative. When she finally answered, I gave her a bit of a tongue lashing about how I wanted them to stop calling and that I wouldn't fall for their phishing scam. After I hung up I called the Verizon number on my billing statement. The young man that answered informed that there was a problem with the payment and that it hadn't gone through. He also informed me that Verizon has a very large call center in Tennessee, hence the 615 number, and that both numbers were in fact associated with Verizon. He also said that the computer auto-dialling system calls the lowest number on the account first and that that was the reason my number was called and not the primary one.
This number really is Verizon.
I know some of you will still be convinced that this is a scam though.- Caller: Verizon

- HPDan, I agree. I am late with my payment and am receiving the same missed call number on my phone's ID. This happened a few months ago when I was late too. When I paid the bill the number was still showing up. I called Verizon and they told me that the messages are planned after a bill is late. I think it takes a little time (maybe a day or so) for the calls to stop after the payment is made.

- 0.0 replies to bobyou got the number from them! It's Verizon! Pay your bill.
- B.N.This number is definitely form Verizon Wireless. This is the second time I've been late with a payment and both times I received calls from this number. I called Verizon via 611 on my cell and they verified that it IS a valid number associated with them.

- BBCThis is TRULY Verizon!
I missed paying my bill last month as other bills overwhelmed my budget and the operator was very kind directing me to the payment office.
Don't fret folks, just call and work it out, the folks at Verizon are very nice.- Caller: Verizon Wireless

- how_droleIf you pay your bill (that you know about) at an authorized Verizon kiosk, and the calls stop immediately. Interesting... Hmmm. If the calls do not stop immediately, get the info of any Verizon account on which your cell number was used as a mobile contact number, and then confirm if that is an account you set up. It is possible that someone faked your cell number as the contact number on an account they setup.... who knows... to make calls to Sri Lanka all day, with never an intention to pay, and now you are getting the collection reminders. Call the official 800 number listed on one of Verizon's snail mail bills, and ask them to cross reference any accounts on which they have your cell number listed as a mobile contact or any sort of contact. If you don't recognize any of the accounts they list to you, tell them so, and report it to the authoritites. You have been low level identity theft boogered. Hopefully it won't get worse. Make that call to Verizon's official published Customer Service 800 number. If you start trying to trace the line you were called from, that will not be conclusive. Verizon and its *collection affiliates* could have thousands of lines that are not published as Verizon outgoing lines, yet still return that 800 as the call back number. Hope that helps y'all. No need to hype the phishing scare, even though it does happen. IN this case, just call the official published Verizon number and have 'em cross check your cell number in all their records. Simple. No great conspiracy talk necessary, but be careful none the less. :)
- lisam9 replies to Renee| 15 repliesNo its not a scam, I work for verizon wireless and this is just a phone call generally as a friendly reminder that we have not received a payment. Hope this helps!
- PS| 1 replyThe number IS a valid Verizon Wireless number.... it is not a scam or phishing number. Not sure why people keep saying it is a scam number.... must be because they owe $$ to Verizon and are in denial... lol.

- momohime replies to smart guy| 2 repliesshe didnt say she ever had verizon to begin with. why would verizon call a number that isnt even in their directory, telling them that they owe verizon money? they wouldnt.
- RSI've been getting calls from this number for a couple weeks now. They haven't left a voicemail and I haven't answered a call, but they call around 12:30 almost every day. I googled the number to see what it was and this is what came up. First of all, my bill isn't late. Second, my number isn't the primary number on the account, so if there is a problem with the account or bill, they should be calling my mom, not me. Third, if they really needed something, they would leave a message or try a different method of communication. And fourth, (this hasn't happened to me but in response to other people's comments) if a caller asks you for your social security number or account number right off the bat, it is most definitely a scam. And if it really was Verizon calling to tell you that you owe money, they should already have your account number! We're looking further into this.

- MattI had 2 missed calls from this number today. I thought it was fishy that a 1-800 number was trying to contact me so I input this number on one of those websites that can trace the number to a city or state. Nothing came up on the search. Then, I googled the number and this website came up. Based on what I've been reading, I'm glad I never called them back. It sounds like this is a phishing scam. It is still an active scam as of 8/6/10.
- Rachel replies to PSNobody is in denial. Look at the facts here. Don't fall victim to one of these scams, they can be very convincing.
- Colene Richards| 1 replyThis number keeps calling - they do not leave a message
- larryn replies to Colene Richardsthis a scam. first you get a call from the 615-372-2999 number. if you call it back, some idiot will give you the 800-754-0961. DO NOT GIVE ANYONE YOUR NAME OR OTHER INFORMATION. TELL THEM NEVER TO CALL YOUR CELL PHONE AGAIN. I know that this is all fake because i use automated bill pay and therefore, never late with a payment and have no reason to get any phone calls from verizon. So, no need to keep on posting, just accept the fact that this is a scam.
- Dawn replies to mikeI get multiple calls from this number each month. Most of the time I ignore them. If this is indeed Verizon, the once or twice I have spoken with someone they were totally unwilling to allow me to set up a payment plan of any sort. It was pay in full or nothing! You get the same type of thing if you look up and call the "contact us" number on the Verizon Wireless website. There is no option provided to allow you to talk to a real person if you need to set up a payment arrangement.
- DaveYeah, not fake. Verizon. Grow up, people.

- kalI have automated bill pay and my phone bill is always up to date. After getting a call from this number twice I logged on to my verizon account just to double check and my account is all paid up and current. Don't know if this is a scam or not, but I also don't know why they are calling my home number when I'm not overdue.
- dumbfuks| 1 replypay your bill and this number will not contact you. simple as that. idiots.
- Caller: vzw
- Call type: Debt collector
- moron replies to cole| 2 repliesu should have paid on time and they would not call in the first place. What is rediculous is that you want credit/service from them but want to pay them when you feel like it instead of the dates you signed on the CONTRACT!
Maybe you paid them LAST NIGHT, but collections is separate from vzw and it takes a day or to for all the systems to register that your DELINQUENT [***] has FINALLY made good. You waited 1-2 months to catch your bill up and act like it's thier fault, but if they don't sync up your account status in 3 seconds after payment then they are the f*ckrs?
You are a moron.
