Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:

The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.

Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller.If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

800-806-3342 start to call us again at 8:20am, this year they call us every 20 minutes, ask person information, I checked my neighbors, people told me 800-806-3342 is a biggest group of criminals, they can attack anybody in US states. Until they got your personal information and use your credit cards. I was wondering in US, 800-806-3342 can attack anybody on the daytime.

Some great advise has been posted concerning these criminals. Thanks to all of you who have contributed. I got my first call from these folks today and just like many others, they wanted my social security number to "verify" who I am.
I have never had a Sprint phone and only owe money for my house mortgage so I know this is a scam.
I have blocked the number.

This criminals called today about 4pm and asked for someone named Zoe. I told them they had the wrong number. They then asked for my social security number, so the could "verify" my identity. I told them no and hung up. I them searched the web for information on the number and found this site which is very informative.
They are obviously criminals and obviously not located in the USA. Spoofing a telephone number.
Block them if you can. Get one of those machines that block numbers.

These calls are from identity theft criminals. They scam people  asking for someone who you won't know, or they may ask for you by name. Either way, they will ask you to "verify your identification" and ask for your social security number. They may also tell you that you owe money to Sprint, Verizon, At&t, Comcast, etc. They will demand your credit card number. They will threaten you will legal action if you do not give them your credit card information.
THESE ARE SCAM CALLS! Hang up! Block them if you can!

I have never had a Sprint phone. This is a criminal-scam caller. They claimed I owed Sprint $300.00, yet they never used my name, but asked for it.  They also asked for my credit card number and social security number.  I asked them who they were calling and they could not tell me.

Number now blocked, but these criminals should be located and imprisoned.  No telling how much money they have stolen from people.

Oh yes, this is a scam. I don't have a cell phone, just a landline. So for these people to call me about a cell phone bill without even asking for a specific person makes me know it is a scam.  They asked for my name, address, social security number and credit card to pay a $324.00 bill that is not mine. I gave them no information. Told them they called the wrong number and have blocked it.

Some of these posts say this number is associated with Sprint, but I have never had a Sprint phone. (another cell phone for over 15 years), so this must be a scam.

Yes, these must be criminals. I don't have Sprint and don't owe any business entity any money aside from my mortgage, which is current.

If this number is from Sprint, they're trying to contact my son who died in Oct. 2014. He had a Sprint phone through an employer about 5 or 6 years ago but he personally was never a Sprint customer. Sounds fishy.

These callers call and ask for someone I don't know. I finally decided to see if there was anything on the internet about this number and there are pages and pages! The people using the number 800-806-3342, have never identified themselves. It sure is annoying to keep telling them they have the wrong number and they continue to call anyway.

Just got a call from these people and glad I was able to find complaints on the internet about these callers. Same story as others. I have never had Sprint, yet they claim they are owed hundreds of dollars, BUT they won't tell me who owes this money. I know it isn't me. So why did they call me??  Are they trying to get me to give them money?
Sounds very strange. Like an illegal scam.
