This has called me a couple of times today I tried calling back but it says the IRS is closed for the state holiday... I haven’t received any type of letter and I if the IRS is closed today how are they calling me

I received this letter 4883C. telling me that the IRS needed to verify my identity before they can process my return or send my refund. I already received my refund! I checked this letter number on the IRS website and it is for setting up a payment plan not identity verification!.

Got same call. IRS does not call, they send you a letter. This call is a total scam!!!!!

I called back and a recording asked me to press 1 if I was 50 years or older, if not press two. I hung up, found this website and read that it’s legit, called back (Same number) 2x and got a recording that said I was calling a number outside my calling area.

Apparently you missed all the posts saying it's a scam. Think about it - why would the IRS ask if you're over or under 50?

Received irs 4883C letter. I called 800-830-5084 which is on the letter. System put me on hold for 45 mins than talked to a real person. Asked an ID number on letter, SSN, name, address, mother maiden name, etc. Then asked some lines at the W-2 of prior year (not the current tax year filed this year.) Then he said the file will be on the process to review. This 800 number is listed at some private tax consulting sites though it is not listed at the irs website related to letter 4883C. I should have called local IRS office to verify this 800 number before I called.

Its my money and that's a lot of money and why does the IRS need to verify when I give them money every year. I've been calling since the letter arrived Sept. 1st and it's Sept. 25,2020. They said i only have 30 days. But I can't get a hold of them even the number on irs. website 800-829-1040 and 800-829-1954 or even 1800-908-4490.

Well today is Sunday and they are not working.  Other times you have to leave a message and they will return your call.  They ask you to record your name so that when they call back you know the call is legitimate.  You could also go directly to one of their offices: https://www.irs.gov/help/contact-your-local-irs-office

The only number for individuals i 800-829-1040.  That is the only number you should be calling.  All of this was easily found on the IRS.Gov website.  How come I found it and you couldn't?

I received what appeared to be an "official notification" from the IRS about my 2019 tax return. It requested me to call 800-834-5084. I did. Gave information. Now keeping my fingers crossed & praying that my identity has not been stolen.

This number and the affiliated letter is a scam.  I just looked it up on line.  Google "IRS scam letter" and it will show you the letters that are out there THAT ARE NOT FROM THE IRS.  DO NOT CALL THEM AND GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.
