i can not get thru to anyone. keeps saying call volume to high. been trying for 2 weeks. anyone else having this problem?

My husband  received  a letter  supposedly  from the irs saying to call this number. Also been getting calls. Don't  know if it's a real letter. It says to verify identity.

Well, you could call that number and not know who you are really talking to.  The alternative is to look up a known, published phone number for the IRS and call them at that number and then be positive of who you are talking to.  Which do you think is the better solution?

yes, and when i did get thru and took all information required and told to wait 5 minutes to put on is computer I was disconnected.   tried calling several days at 7:00 a.m. always the same message, call back.  I am wondering if lawyers have different phones calling and taking up space for their clients.  maybe they have some way to get thru the 800-830-5084 number than we individuals have does any one know how to reach that number?  if irs sees these messages please help us all!

Have you read other posts?  This number is suspect.

The best thing to do is call the IRS.  If you owe federal taxes, or think you might owe taxes, hang up and call the IRS at 800-829-1040. IRS workers can help you with your payment questions.

Because they are the scammers ..they come on here and things like these because they know people look it up and want people to fall for it
