    L.
A voice recording called my number and said if I was L(my first name), then a last name that I couldn't understand, to press 2 on the phone.  I pressed it in the hopes of getting a number to call them back and heard that I owed a debt to Publisher's Clearing House for $50 and other options to pay it by credit card. I don't owe the debt, so called them back the next day, got a live person on the phone and asked for the last name of the person they had called, he must've seen my phone number and told me immediately.  I then told him to take my number off the list because it wasn't me and that I've had this number for 5 1/2 years. I did not give my last name either.

So, how did they get my phone number at all, with the incorrect last name?  I think it's a scam, to get people's credit card numbers to use fraudulently.

Also got a new debit card with a new number on it last week because the bank thinks my account has been compromised; they advised that I watch it carefully regardless.  Someone also used my information to file a fraudulent tax return for 2011.  Be careful, these are some highly unscrupulous people out there.

I, too, have received repeated phone calls from this number.  Early on it was a recorded message where I was supposed to indicate whether or not I was the person they were trying to reach.  Since I listened to this from the answering machine, I could not respond in real time to their prompts.  Their messages did reveal that they were trying to reach someone who had the same last name as I do, but with a different first name.  It was to collect a debt owed to Publishers Clearing House.  Today, they called again, and after reading many of your posts, I called the number and actually got a live person. It was a very civil exchange where she verified my number and asked if I was Hxxx Nxxxxxx.  I verfied our same last name and told her I did not know who Hxxx was.  She said Hmmm, our records show that this number is associated with that person.  I told her that was not correct.  She said she would remove the number.  We'll see.  I'll follow up here if I continue to receive the calls.  I've had the number blocked since the first call, but my phone keeps track of all incoming calls, so I'll know if they continue calling.

This number has repeatedly called my house for someone that previously had my telephone number 3 years ago. I have asked them to remove my number from their data base as I have no connection to the people they are looking for.

My ex wife has been receiving calls from this number 3 and 4 or more times per day and asking for me,,,,I live in NY State and she in Virginia we have no financial ties and haven't for many years...she has told them that I do not and have not been there in several years but they persist with their harrassment phone calls.  Both she and I are on the federal "do not call list"  but this does nothing to stop them.  How can we get this activity stopped.  Even if they were a legitimate collection agency (and I believe they are not) they would have no claim since I have gone through a bankruptcy since my divorce.  Who polices this type of illegal activity and how can we get in touch with them?

I just received an email from my landlord that this number has been calling him looking for me. I want to know how on earth they got his number and why are they calling him looking for me. I don't even know what this is about? How do I file a report if I'm not the one being harrassed?

How pathetic it must be to be chasing debts under $50 for these morons.  I got a dunning letter (a nasty gram, a demand for $) in the mail 2 days ago.  It's for a cookbook I did not order for myself.  I am going to send them a certified return mail (gonna cost me about $5) letter demanding they provide me with something bearing my signature stating we have any contract.  The debt has been passed off from another junk debt buyer.   Send 'em a validation of debt letter (google samples) and most of the time they'll crumble like a house of cards because they have no proof and they'll move on to the next sorry [***] consumer who will allow themselves to be bullied due to ignorance of the FDCPA.

I keep getting multiple automated calls (starting at 6:30 A.M. and going up to 10 P.M.) on a daily basis (including Sundays) from 1-800-900-1380 telling me this is regarding personal business and to push 1 if I am the one answering the call, 2 if I'm home but can't come to the phone and 3 if I'm not home. If you don't push any buttons the message will repeat and they give you their number to call them back at (twice) before the call ends.

My number is unlisted and unpublished, and I have never given this number to anyone or used it for anything other than 911 calls. So how did they get it and how do they know it's even listed in my name? I cannot even make an outgoing call from that phone line with the exception of calling 911, so why would I use it for anything other than that?

The Do-Not-Call registry is a farce.  I have repeatedly reported the same company with the same number and the same human caller, and nothing has been done about it.  For over six months, I have received calls regarding lowering my credit card interest rates: I have no credit cards (thanks to Bill).  The Do-Not-Call registry is a waste of time and so is reporting it to its parent agency.  As for Penn Credit, I was called at 2045 hours on a Sunday.  That, to me, is intrusive.  I had no way to call back at the time as the recording says to call back during normal business hours.  So, how does one call back during normal business hours when its obvious that the company does not keep normal business hours.
