- stump replies to kissmyassWhy don't people simple buy home and cell phones with call block. They can only call once and there done. These companies hate call block!
- n. fernandezI received a phone call asking for my grlfriends brother who doesnt live at my house saying they were a debt collector from publishers clearing house. I do not know what this is about seeing as I just got a house phone last week, and they have called my house 5 times today. This is getting pretty ridiculous and do not give me the option to speak to a live person. How do I get the to stop calling me?
- Caller: publishers clearing house
- Call type: Debt collector
- Taterblade replies to frustratedThey didn'y say they blocked the number, they said the blocked their ID - the number shows up on caller ID but says "Private Number"
- GraceI called this number back and they were looking for a woman named Rose-Ann Servino. I told them that there was no such person at my number.
- LoriI keep getting these calls but at my parents house. I haven't lived there in over 15 years. I also found a web site where you can pay online as long as you have your letter with the numbers they want to access your bill. It's kinda hard to do that if you never get a letter, just phone calls. And they don't call my number, they call my parents number, which tells me it is an old bill no longer active or one that I paid off years ago. This is not the first time I got a bill from a collector about a bill I paid in full years prior. Their is a web site where you can get a formal letter that you fill out & mail it to them which tells them to cease & desist all forms of contact from them. I haven't heard from that company since.

- rocqueBE CAREFUL of these phone numbers. some of these unidentified calls put you on hold and end up charging you for the duration of the holding time or callback, I never got caught up in that, thankfully I have caller ID and screen my calls. I get those calls a few times a day. I just ignore them. and they have become less and less. I always GOOGLE the phone number to find out where the call is coming from and then ignore the calls from that number or any other number that is unidentified.
- Jo Ann| 1 replyI have my number on a do not call list. My number has been called every morning for the past 5 mornings, by this 800 number. Please have them stop calling me.
- ANonieMouse replies to Jo AnnAnd how would you suggest we do that?
- Sherry Wilkins| 1 replyI received a call from them today asking for me... I confirmed it was I speaking. Then she wanted to confirm my mailing address and I asked her who was calling she tole me I needed to confirm my mailing address when I pressed she told me it was Penn Credit Co.
She continued to press me for my mailing address... I asked her what the personal matter was and she said I had to confirm the mailing address before she could discuss the matter with me.
I said okay, have a nice day...
And now that I'm thinking about this... this telephone number she called is not given to any of my creditors because I'm usually not at that number....
Hmmmm!!!!!- Caller: Penn Credit Co
- Matt| 1 replyYep..this is Pen Credit Corporation. I actually called them back and couldn't understand anything.
If I may offer a bit of advice on how to deal with these credit collection agencies...most of whom are pieces of fecal matter if you get my drift.
1. Invest in a "burn" phone...one of those disposable cell phones. Use that phone number for initiating any type of debt with any business where if a collection is started, their collection practices may be harassing (particularly Pay Day Loans or Car Loans). Don't set up the voice mail. And never answer the phone...in fact, turn it off. This will force the collections process to proceed in 'writing'.
2. OR...(as I am about to do with Pen Corp) look up the collection agency via the web. Send a "CEASE AND DESIST" letter to them (and send via Certified Mail) demanding that they not call you or your place of employment and to provide subsequent contact via writing. Be sure to include some verbiage such as "In accordance with applicable laws of the United States governing debt collection and consumer credit (such as the FCRA), I demand that you CEASE & DESIST......". And indicate that any additional attempt to contact you by other than writing will result in a complaint to the FTC as well as the Attorney General that handles consumer complaints in the state where you live. And make sure you follow through. (I'm doing that now with a particularly vile company...AFB; I've put a "beef" on them from the FTC all the way down to the congressional representative of the district their home office resides to the attorneys general of 2 states as well as the city attorney for the city their home office resides in. And I'm not finished.
You can then cite a reason for your request. Frequently what I now do is that I state that due to the number of telephone contacts where the conversation quality is extremely poor or my inability to understand the caller who frequently has a foreign accent that is difficult to understand and who's use of understandable grammar and the English language is "poor" at best, I am choosing to correspond with this matter via written correspondence only.
I also do NOT use my name in this correspondence. I do the "verification" just like they try to do on the phone; I supply enough information (usually last 4 or 5 only of SSN, a partial address..never full, and a partial last name...first 3 or 4 characters) where if the alleged debt is valid, then they should be able to match the identifying information with their records which should contain my name and address. and then send the written correspondence properly addressed.
3) Block their number. Thankfully, SPRINT has a facility where you can block as many as 50 numbers. However, be advised that many of these collection agencies now use number spufing and/or automatic dialing software...so in some cases, blocking will not work because their auto-dialing software will just call again and a different number shows up. Or a 'spuf'ed number shows up (such as 000-000-0001) in the caller id.
4) And when asked to provide "references"...well...we know what that's for...tell them the names you are providing will provide a character reference ONLY but "you do not have permission to call them again for any reason." If it's for a reference, then a one-time contact should be sufficient. And it helps if you use the same sets of friends for this...simply tell them that once contacted, after they provide the reference, have them simply state: "I have provided a reference as requested. You do not have my permission to contact me again for any reason regarding this matter."- Caller: Pen Credit Corporation

- Larry| 1 replyIf we all call them back repeatedly won't that cost them $$$? I don't know, but I call back and it is always a recording saying no one is available to talk to me and they tell me to call back later. If you have an old phone modem and software you could repeatedly call the number. Maybe they will stop. Don't know what else to do.

- Debt Free and Always Was replies to Resident47| 21 repliesYou certainly don't know what you are talking about. I got a call today, didn't pick up, never do on 800 numbers. I can assure you I have an excellent credit rating, owe no one and never did. So, before you berate someone, get the facts. It is a SCAM.
- blufalcaon replies to frustratedI get these same calls and it shows up as out of area. If you listen to the recording, and it is a recording, they give you the number to call back and it is this number. When trying to call back or connect, it is disconnected or put on hold then disconnected. It is just a scam. Period
- blufalcon replies to collectorHey, if your companies and organizations that you are so strong about, why don't your recordings give a "press 4 for being reomved from our call list" or something similar?! I have found when these incorrect calls are made that most dont give that option and when you do try to connect with them or speak with them, they are the ones with the attitude to begin with. Learn some proper customer service and phone ettiquette and you'd probably get better responses and everyone would'nt be hating you a**es.
