Please review third party disclosure under the FDCPA. Collectors may speak with third parties under certain circumstances.

Fellow consumer, it is great to see that you have handled your responsibilities without issue. However, if you have a collector stating that they will disclose to your parents without your consent, you should file a complaint with the business, the FDCPA and CFPB.

I just researched your company and it has an A+ rating with the BBB. However, it is against the law to call my place of business for a debt that I may owe.

    Suuuuure
If your number is an 800 number, then why call from purchased, disguised numbers?  I think you should read up on the rules of the FDCPA.

    Legit?  Hmmmm
To the representative above... you MAY be above board but your tecniques are suspect and borderline illegal.  Leaving msgs with random numbers or call back requests with an 800 number and no other information is shady and you and your company are aware of that.   And your business is buying old debts to make $$... granted you cannot separate the hardships from the irresponsible debts, but your methods are that of bottom feeders.  Act legitimate and perhsps you'll be taken more seriously.

Was contacted while at Dr appt getting bad news. Got a message...the only word not mumbled was collections.  Am up to date with anything I know of. Now I get to worry all night till they open in the morning. Cruel and disheartening. At least they could have identified who on earth that were looking for. If it turns out that have made a mistake...which is highly likely...they owe me a huge apology and a decent nite's sleep.

    BS.
    Dear Midwest,
If you were not bottom feeder scammers you would leave clear concise messages that would be understandable.  Instead you leave mumbled threats, no company name, and your operatives name is never clearly stated.  Then you speak in code using vague language in a obvious attempt to trap the caller into incriminating themselves.
You’re NOT LEGITIMATE    You’re disgusting harassing jokes.  Advice to all.   Tell them to GYF themselves.

    Very truly yours.

The bas____s call from a slew of different numbers. 800 numbers. Different area codes. And yet they’re a “ legitimate “ firm.  They’ve violated the FDCPA so many times there should be a class action lawsuit filed against them.  Fight back.  Everyone.  Call an attorney. See if they’ll work pro bono.  If we flood them with lawsuits we can shut them down.

Why would an attorney work "pro bono" when the law says that if they win their case, the opposing party must pay their fees?  Maybe you should acquaint yourself with the FDCPA before quoting it in a post?  It looks like they do both consumer and commercial collections.  Only consumer debt would fall under the FDCPA and not commercial.  Now the first step in making them stop calling is to make them follow the letter of the law.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

    The next step is:

You will need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
    http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-an-atto ... tates_value=All

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Ok Big A, you’re obviously much more versed in the law and FDCPA than I.   I stand corrected.
Thank you for clarifying the correct plan of action.

I have no unpaid bills either and certainly no debt. So not sure what this is concerning but obviously not legitimate.

Suspect company at best. They call from local numbers, leave a 1-800 number to call back and their website states they are in Kansas. They might be legit but they are using some shady practices to do business. Sadly for them I don't answer blocked caller IDs or random numbers I don't know and I'm not calling back some 1-800 number for a company I've never done business with.

Voicemail received to call Caroline with Midwest debt --- This is a scam as for some reason in the last couple of years I keep getting calls on what I call Payday loan scams.  these debts do not show on my credit report & one of the parties "MobiLoans" has a large class action lawsuit ongoing against them for being an 'illegal loan' - I have received fake calls stating I will be arrested if I do not pay these FAKE loans - no one has shown up since 2012 and I'm waiting for them - LOL LOL LOL
