I just got a call from the same # did not answer it, now glad I didn't then found this forum, I had created an online ss file, wondering if scammers are hacking into the pages & getting ph #'s. EVEN if I would have answered I do not give my info on the over the phone unless I called them!

I saw this as a missed number.  When I called it back, it answered "You have reached the Social Security office in Kansas, Missouri" and then they give you options as to what you want to do.  I picked my options and actually got the lady that was trying to call me.  It was concerning my application for benefits.  Just to make sure before I answered any of her questions, I ask her a few of my own.  Only things that were on the application.  She answered every one correctly.  THIS IS A GOOD NUMBER FOR SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE.

I called into the SS office to inquire about my children's survivors claims.  It is now going on 2.5 months since my husband passed away and they have received $0 and no notification about any award...kept getting told it is "in processing".  The lady told me the same thing I have been told every couple of weeks.  Within 5 mins. I get a call on my cell from 816-936-3000...it was this same lady I was just talking to at the SS Office.  She called me back on my cell (not the number I had left to be called on), to let me know that my claim would be moving along...anyway, it was a legit call from SS

1/2 of these say this number is legit, 1/2 said it wasn't. Upon digging, the call from this number WAS LEGITIMATE!

They had called and left a msg. When they called back, I didn't give them info. So they gave me the info. they had to see if anything had changed. They had all correct info. With a lot of digging a scam could have found my 1st & middle name, address, my home & cell number, my checking acct. & routing numbers. So, I didn't give any info. just acknowledged that the info. was correct.

Then I found the regular SS phone number, 1 (800) 772-1213. They confirmed that this is the local phone number.

I got a call from this number.  The caller id said Social Security and the lady left a message.  As I was just starting to read the above comments, the caller rang again.  I decided to see what would happen.  As indicated in one or two of the previous comments, the call is Legitimate.  I did not give out any information.  I just confirmed that the information she had for me was still current and correct.  She gave me information I have been waiting to receive.  My attorney's secretary called me as soon as I had hung up.  VERY LEGIT.

Got a call from the 816 936 3000 number. No message left. No further action by me.

YES, it is ligit. The other # is probably a backup #. I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back. I was leary, also.. I called the #. It IS the Social Security office in KS, MO.. I had a claim in, to start collecting and this is what it was about.. If you DONT call back, it will just delay your application, becaue they need to talk to you!...

This is an outgoing only  telephone number  for the Kansas City Social Security Payment Center - not a joke - I work for SSA.  This was opened to help eliminate the  huge backlog of disability claims that were created because of the idiots in Washington DC that decided in the 70's to start cutting back the number of Social Security Employees.  Now with the baby boomers hitting retirement age, the morons in Washington discovered it was not such a smart idea to cut personnel after all.  So they started a major hiring campaign 3 yrs ago  to try to get the staffing back up to where it needs to be.   We are still below the 1970's level.  So if you receive a phone call, you can verify by asking them questions also.

I got a call today  from a Mr Hurt claiming to be from SS office. 816-936-3000.  He had all my personal info including bank acct info.  I called my local SS office and gave them my updated info.  I know there is caller ID software that can show  any  name and phone number they want it to. I then got a call from my attorneys office telling me they had him on the line and to give them the info, which I did not. Trying to verify if that was my attorneys office.  Beware out there.

A man with a foreign accent called me at work and said he was from ssa and needed some info.  As I was with a client at the time, I asked for his number to return the call.  I then asked for his name and he only said the call would go right to his office.  Did not give me his name. I did not return the call.

Its real we just filed ge knew when it us a kc number no info given out.

It is not so much for the baby boomers as it is for the poor economy and the influx of applications for disability due to people having difficult time finding work. The bad economy came before the baby boomer retire but that is also around the corner.

Either way, this number 816-936-3000 is a LEGITIMATE number for social security (disability).

Did you even read any of the links you posted? The last one especially clearly states in the first sentence that "Generally, we do not publish the phone numbers of our local offices. "

This is so morons like you and others that think this is a scam who are trying to file fake claims do not bug the people doing the hard work of going through thousands of applications are not slowed down by idiots phoning them directly with moronic questions. By filtering shills like you through the single number they are more efficient.

By all means, call the toll free number if it makes you feel better but for those that have filed a legit disability claim, answer the phone when they call you or it will take longer to process your claim or you will be denied because you did not answer to provide more information that would assist them in processing your claim.

816-936-3000 is LEGIT. Social Security is calling you for more information or to confirm information and assist you in getting your Social Security claim processed.

But don't worry, if you missed the call, whether they left a message or not, there is no further action required on your part. They will call you back at a later time.

It is sad that the barrage of calls from telemarketers make so many idiots paranoid about numbers they do not recognize.

Just got a call from this Number and it is the Social Security payment Center, I asked a lot of Questions prior to verifying my Info and all was legit.

Just got the same call and same person.
