This is a Social Security office number in Kansas City.
Message left had enough detail to know it was a legit call, and one I'd been expecting.

I got this, too. If it's legit will this delay my claim or will they send me a letter asking for the info?

I received a call from Dave on 816-936-3000 Claiming to be with the SSA. So I asked a question through my online SSA account and was given this response:

What should I do if I think someone is impersonating a Social Security Administration (SSA) employee?

Generally, SSA will only contact you if you have requested a call or have ongoing business with the agency. SSA employees will never threaten you for information or promise a benefit in exchange for personal information or money.

If you receive a suspicious call or are unsure of the identity of someone alleging to be from SSA, you should report details of the call to the Office of the Inspector General at ‎1-800-269-0271 or online at https://oig.ssa.gov/report.

I spoke to my local office as well due tot he conflicting messages on this number. Caller id did  not  show SS. My local office confirmed the numbers are legit, and the reason they called. I am not a scammer. But if you are not comfortable call the 800 # and get the number for your local office, call them and they  can tell you.

Missed 1st call from this #, upon callback it was said that someone from SSI was trying to get a hold of me and i'd get a call from them. When I got the call from a female who spoke of my medical issues, (this female was breathing very heavily into the receiver and seemed nervous) she then referred me to another person. ( I've been "put on hold" many many times but never has the person putting me on hold... stayed on the phone with me and not talk but just breathe heavily into the receiver??. So I get a male after at least a six or seven min wait with the female breather and he seams very professional. He explains the female as a trainee and draws my attention to my SSI claim. He has most of my info and blah blah blah... i now think this call is legit. He says I'll get my info packet in the mail (it showed up today in a pink envelope) The paper its typed on is so old it is turning yellowish.  It is my mission to dig deeper into this scammer and end it.

Yuh-huh. Sure. Of course you do realize that just because it was "a legit number" for doesn't mean it is for others. Scammers often spoof legitimate phone numbers so you assuring yourself that "Medicare went through" doesn't really help others.

Well there are numerous problems with your post. First, SSI if referring to the program run by the Social Security Administration (which would be SSA) is not a sentient being and cannot make or receive calls.  Anything regarding this program would come from the SSA as mentioned above.  SSA does not use "pink" envelopes. They use plain old white ones and the paper is not decades old or would even appear that way.

I was called from this number.  Identified as SSA; left a message with call back number.  They returned my call today and asked for my SSN.  That made me nervous so I called SSA directly.  This appears to have been a fraudulent call.

This number has called twice. Left a message the first time, then today, I answered. Seemed legit up until the gal asked for my mother's maiden name, which got warning bells going in my head. Then she asked for my dad's middle name, and then my SS#. I hung up at that.
